    ===========================================================
Bombays are the ultimate black cat. Their glossy coat is paired with a set of golden saucer-like eyes, earning the breed its nickname “the patent leather kid with the new penny eyes.” Aside from its exotic looks, the Bombay is an endearing, playful, and agreeable feline.
The lively and affectionate Bombay loves people and is adaptable to many different environments and lifestyles. His calm nature makes him a good apartment dweller, and he is amenable to life with other pets, although he definitely wants to be a top cat.
If you’re thinking about bringing a Bombay cat into your life, here’s what you need to know.
Bombay cats have a “wild” side.
Much like the Savannah cat or the Bengal cat, the Bombay was bred with the goal of producing a domestic feline with a feral appearance. American breeders crossed sable Burmese with black American Shorthair cats to achieve Bombay’s exotic panther-like look. Their wild cat sway and striking appearance have earned them the nicknames the “mini-panther” and the “parlor panther.”
    They aren’t from Bombay.
The origins of this breed are credited to American breeder, Nikki Horner, who wanted to develop a domestic breed that resembled a black leopard. Ms. Horner began this project in the 19 50s, and the first successful hybrid kitten was born in 19 65. Horner named the breed “Bombay” because it resembled the black leopards of that exotic port town in India. Bombays are recognized as an official breed by both the Cat Fanciers’ Association and the International Cat Association.
    Bombays are social butterflies.
Aptly nicknamed “velcro cats,” Bombays tend to keep close to their beloved owners. They will seek their owner’s attention and have been known to follow their favorite human from room to room. They’re particularly good with strangers. You won’t find these cats dashing to hide under the bed when company arrives. They’re likely to greet you, and anyone else, with a warm welcome at the front door. These highly social cats hate to be left alone for long periods of time, and they’re prone to loneliness and depression if left in solitude for too long. This, unfortunately, can lead to destructive behavior. If you’re away at work all day, leave plenty of toys for your kitty to enjoy as well as a scratching post.
    They have a bossy streak.
The Bombay is an easygoing and tolerant cat who takes life as it comes. He enjoys greeting visitors and gets along well with children, dogs, and other cats, although he will expect to be the one in charge. Make no mistake, Bombays like to be in charge. Although these friendly felines usually get along with other cats and dogs, a Bombay cat prefers to rule the roost.
    Bombay cats enjoy “burrowing”.
In blankets, that is. These sleek kitties are habitual heat-seekers. It’s not uncommon to find a Bombay resting peacefully near any heat source. They love to curl up on a sunny window ledge for warmth, or even better, on top of their human. It’s not unusual to find a Bombay nestling in a pile of laundry or underneath the covers of your bed. This is the perfect arrangement for pet owners who enjoy snuggling up with their animals at bedtime. Just be careful when you get into bed, there could be a kitty hiding beneath your comforter.
American Bombays are different from British Bombays.
American and British breeders took different approaches to the creation of their mini panthers. American Bombays was achieved by crossing a sable Burmese with a Black American Shorthair, whereas British breeders paired Burmese cats with black domestic cats. The two breeds are similar, but the main distinction lies in their eyes. American Bombays sport gold or copper eyes while British Bombays’ eyes are often green.

Oh so a bond bay kitten has to pick its owner then right ,because a lady refused the one I've got and gave him to me she told me some dude went scary and shot and killed his whole family so he's a little scared sometimes not as much as he was but I live in a very nosey area and when he gets scared he will either run and hide or search me or even try to bite me ,but when he's not felling scared I can pit him and even pick him up

Thanks for having the heart and the patience to love a traumatized kitty. I’ve fostered some that have been through a lot, and one stayed a long time. I couldn’t surrender because the shelter euthanizes cats with FIV. She needed calm and quiet, but was a sweet baby! She posed no threat of FIV to other cats, as she was spayed, and didn’t fight. Some Bombays love everyone. If they take after their Burmese side (they are crossbred with brown Burmese but come out black), they may be more independent-minded. My Burmese definitely chose his people, me and my son. When my son moved out, he only cuddled me. He liked the rest of the family, but didn’t bond tightly with them (except one feline friend). Some Bombays are more easygoing, but trauma certainly plays into that, also. @@rebeccaannwooten8002

Bombay cats are absolutely my favorite cats! They are so social and love interacting with people compared to other breeds. They’re like a dog. Rarely ever annoyed for being picked up or pet on. They love to keep close to you, and always have this soulful, earthy demeanor to them. Not at all unsocialable.

@@Buckeye_4_Life_ My Burmese never stopped following me around, but he only wanted to cuddle on his time. As he got older, that became most of the day, but it was hit or miss when he was young. He always had projects, and got very involved in my activities. I’ve heard the Bombay is similar, but more docile and easygoing. I am deciding whether to get a Bombay or wait for a Burmese, as my best friend passed away 2 weeks ago. The house feels so empty without him!

I have adopted purebred cats in shelters. I got a Manx kitten with a half tail, a haired sphynx (a breeder gave him to me), and a real Turkish Van. I had him authenticated, through cat shows, but had to show him in Household Pet, due to no papers. Amateur or illegitimate breeders sometimes surrender those who don’t meet breed standards, and I see “lost” purebred posts too often. Then there are “mixed breed” cats who got all the traits of one breed in their genetics. It’s called something like spontaneous replication. A Maine Coon breeder thought I had a purebred foster kitty, but he came from a black domestic shorthair mom. I found one with every breed trait of the Korat, even the gleaming, translucent coat hairs. Sometimes nature blesses us with a gem 💎. I have fostered 150+ cats and kittens, and there are striking variations in random bred cats, too. And lots of sweet ones. My 2 favorite cats were a plain gray cat and a tabby, because they got my heart. ❤🐈

Same! I adopted my sweet baby as a rescued stray and they never really had details on her breed. Black cats are less likely to be adopted so I met with a few but she chose me. She was two years old and after taking her home we quickly found out that she is deaf. Her eyes are unbelievable and she’s simply the best companion. Super thankful for fur babies and extra thankful for those who adopt!

I was lucky enough to adopt my cat after she was abandoned whilst she was pregnant.
She cried at my back door night 3 nights running after my neighbours did a moonlight flit.
I can only guess she was about 6 at the time.. She's absolutely the extraordinary feline of her type. She's heading for approx year 23..
She saved me and my family from being poisoned by carbon monoxide.
Every day she'd scratch on the lounge door if we fell asleep and then scratch the front door until we opened it and would just sit and refused to go out..
Upon having central heating installed the gas engineer said the leak was so bad we should have never woke up. He said the vent wasnt sufficient to do that and then I recalled my cats regular antics every time we fell asleep. Only she was venting the house....
We also had a dog when she arrived... he passed a few years ago.. yet every day she goes and sits on his grave...
    Absolute treasure.

My miniature panther has most of these qualities, even jumps on my shoulder when I bough my head & rides around the house nuzzling my neck as I do chores but he's not considered a bombay because of the small white tuft on his chest. Sometimes I can't tell if his eyes are green or yellow, there almost electric or neon greenish yellow. Often, he walks at me from across the yard with a spellbinding glare of enchantment that renders me helpless to break away from his gaze...!..he must know I'm thinking about him as he has just comanded me to submit an earlobe for him to suckle as if he's a starving newborn baby.

Calm? No, that's never a word we'd use about our boy. ADHD, more like. But the velcro certainly sticks. And bossy, yes. Intelligent, too. We certainly never sleep a night without a black cat on us. He is the most loving and attentive cat I've met. Strong, loyal and very active. It was very easy to teach him to walk in leash outside, as well as brushing his teeth every day. But getting him to shut up? In the end, it's just easier to do what he wants. He will yooowl very loudly until he gets what he wants. But it's all done with style, and endless love.

Hey, I have a black cat who looks and acts a lot like a bombay but her eyes are green. Can bombays have green eyes? I always hear they distinctly have copper eyes.

Thanks for the information about the Bombay cat. Just a suggestion... You repeat everything at least three times, which made the video less enjoyable and extra long. Maybe try less of that? Thank you anyway.
