That’s a nice pile for $30! Lots of good stuff. It’s always great when your purchases can be resold to fund further purchases- keeps the tool ball rolling
Nice haul Tom. I work at a Hardware store and those Metric bolts are expensive! That fluted punch is for making a hole in concrete or brick. I think it's called a star bit or drill. Those old Chilton books were really helpful before computers. Great video!
Great haul! I can't believe those ebay prices, especially the craftsman socket set. Good idea about keeping the good tools away from the wife's painting project. 🤣🤣🤣. Cheers
I did it with 3 Snap On ratchets I bought from a Garage Journal member. Two sounded dry, took the face plate off finding no teeth damage on the anvils.Greased them up and they work good now.Wiped the outside up with tub o' towels.Wrenches,I go after the Mac V groove wrenches which are getting hard to find.I have a complete Mac metric wrench set 10mm to 19mm in the original roll from 1977
Tom, I never knew you could get those plastic tool pouches so clean. I gotta try that myself someday. I am now on the lookout for some decent tool pouches that I can clean up too. Great haul! Thanks!!
I discovered this trick about 15 years ago and I've used it ever since. Somebody turned me on to this synthetic two-stroke oil mix made by Sea-Doo called XPS. Comes in a 5 gallon jug for like 17 bucks, I'm pretty sure I'm still on the first bottle. Not lately, but I used to run a chainsaw 6 or 7 hours a day and any logger will tell you they rebuild their saws at least once a season. I've never rebuilt one. That's just testimonial. I haven't opened one up, but I have poked boroscopes down the spark plug holes and everything looks pristine. I even use it to clean stained cast iron for some reason it does well. I know there's a lot of argument about synthetic versus normal oil and I'm no mechanic. Full disclosure, I also run synthetic and my four strokes though I admit the differences are much more subtle. But that XPS for two strokes, I don't even clean carbs in between seasons. I have at least 10 pieces of equipment that are two stroke, any one of them will fire up after setting a year. But the biggest thing is power. It's like an immediate 20% gain without altering the mix at all
Dedicate the end section of a kitchen cabinet to be a communal tool chest and workbench. If you think about it, it's perfect because you have high outlets, bright lighting, a sink, and probably a vent as well. Obviously you want a mat to put on the countertop itself, no sense in risking it unnecessarily. And I'd put toolbox rubber mats in the drawer and cabinet shelves too to keep everything in place and protect the nice wood.
I have that same GE Wiring Book in one of my Electrical Toolboxes for years (mine doesn't look quite that good anymore).......Throw the broken Stanley in some hot water and see if the grips will come off, you may be able to repurpose those too.......The vinyl pouch really cleaned up beautifully on the Moody Set.......Even if you never need those long hose clamps it still makes you feel prepared and that's worth something.......Might have to go with that little Tire Gauge for my favorite of that haul, I can feel the weight right thru the screen!
I was thinking that about the handles but looks like they are on there, hey I’ll try! I love that you appreciate the rare or unique type stuff similar to me, I’m always hunting for those treasures.
That Stanley book with the images of how to identify the parts of each tool, that might look really cool if you cut it up and framed them around the shop. I've got old pinups from the 40s everywhere but I've often thought of switching to blueprints or something like what you have
Ah you went to the sale with the parted out car in the garage. I saw that listing on estate sales, the photos were bad. But you still found some cool deals on the second day.
Hi Mr. Tom! It's rare for me to hit the first day of the sales... I do enjoy finding what others miss and dont think would be worth getting... 😊 I'm standing at the edge thinking of jumping into "selling" maybe list a few items and even setting up on a regular basis by the hwy here and selling off somethings... good haul!
IN AN ANNOUNCER VOICE 'TOM GUNN, A WHEELIN' AND DEALIN' INTERNATIONAL MAN! THAT ALWAYS GETS HIS WAY!!! Coming to a theater near you!!!!!!!! You'll pay for the whole seat BUT only need the edge!!!!!!'
No, but I think he beat me to one yesterday! I had to work and went on day 2 after speaking to the people running the sale it sounded like he cleaned up. Its all good, can’t win them all 👍
Do you happen to know if the tabs on the sides of an old style paint can opener are significant? I realize it is also a bottle opener and can be used as a carrier so the wire bales don't hurt your hand. But the tabs look like they should be useful. Haven't figured out what for yet. Thank you.
AT 15:20 the tool shown is a 3/8" Kraeuter star drill (i.e. using a hammer, one can drill a hole thru a concrete foundation). These are sold on E-bay for $9.50.
Violence is never the best way to solve a problem. This is especially true of those that we love and spend our lives with. That said, a day's handprint might be worthy reminder not to touch a man's tools, haha. I tried for 20 years to banish my life from my shop, never worked. On the other hand, I replaced the heat pump and the new thermostat was quite a bit more complicated. Having already lived together for a decade, I lied and said the thermostat required a password. That was probably the most comfortable 18 months of my marriage! It was fantastic. Completely reasonable and predictable power bills. No repetitive conversations about how turning the furnace up to 90 will not make it hotter faster, only cause it to run longer. It was glorious. If nothing else, I have shared this secret with mankind, I am fulfilled. Always establish low expectations up front, you're going to be expected to perform yourself each year. Leave yourself room.
Hi Tom, how do you get inside the see trough plastic on the old pouches? I'm really struggling with that. Oh and the books are fantastic. We think everything is on the internet, but you'll have a really hard time finding that information you need (and understandable too) those books are more valuable than we think and I think that value will grow rather then decline (with all the online censorship going on).
I hear you Don, it used to be 20k now $650? Meanwhile they paid people to stay home and this is one of the ways they are paying for that and all the other hand outs.
That Kraeuter piece isn't a punch. It's a Masonry Star drill bit. They're struck with anything from a 16 oz. ballpeen up to a 64 oz. or so, while rotating the bit between hits, to drill through Masonry. When men were men!
That Plomb breaker bar is so cool. My friend Zane over at Hodge Podge Dodge Garage collects them. Not only do they look cool because of the pebble handle finish but it’s probably worth some coin.👍 good finds! BTW do you think it would be worth it to weld those channel locks back together?
It looks like, if you're just starting out accumulating tools, you're doing OK, but could do better. But if you're just buying tools to resell (or flip), which is something else entirely, you're on the right track. If you're putting tools together to make actual sets or collections, there are better ways to go about it.
Tom that’s a real testament to your skill to be able to find all that great stuff on day two of a picked over sale. The Stanley tool guide is fantastic and I really like that old Craftsman square. Your ability to find NOS is nothing short of astonishing. I’m glad to hear you were able to sell some of your extras for a nice profit too. That drywall hammer reminded me of this video of a guy using one back in the 50’s. You have to check it out. He is legendary! ruclips.net/video/4uarkKxJkZs/видео.html Take care 😃👍🏼
9:20 There is an on going debate on whether it is considered safe for a husband to give his wife a hammer. The only consensus is helmet use is recommended.
You found some great stuff!
Thanks Pal, some good rusty projects.
All good stuff there Tom love the books
Thanks Larry!

Nice haul Tom. I work at a Hardware store and those Metric bolts are expensive! That fluted punch is for making a hole in concrete or brick. I think it's called a star bit or drill. Those old Chilton books were really helpful before computers. Great video!

Hi Walter, those are awesome wrenches. Sounds like your set had been well cared for.
@@TomGunnTools They were cared for,a couple of the wrenches were used in the metric set
Nice finds
Appreciate you watching Bernard 👍👍
Great stuff Tom. You definitely got you money's worth.
Tom! What a fantastic haul! You covered the entire day on just that Plomb Breaker bar! Awesome stuff!
Wow, just looked it up they are worth about $30 bucks!
Tom, I never knew you could get those plastic tool pouches so clean. I gotta try that myself someday. I am now on the lookout for some decent tool pouches that I can clean up too.

Tom, Really nice haul and the wife NEEDs her own tool box 🥃 👍 😁
Yep, I stated to put some together for her and she said they weren’t shinny enough! I have now restore them all first. Lmao!

Fantastic haul. My favorite is the Chilton book!
You’re wife has good taste in tools! If I’m not mistaken, that krauter punch is for drilling holes in concrete, old school style
Scoutcrafter brought me here. Subscribed!
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Tom, what a haul! Surprised you didn't bring home that Craftsman box @12:26. Those restos are great, never seen an Allen set with a pouch like that.
Hahah, thought about it!

Hope everything's okay with you, Tom 🇨🇦

No harm in selling some goods to fund more hauls and make some room. I use Offer up, FB Marketplace and eBay.
@@TomGunnTools cool thank ya sir
Nice haul. My favorite is the Utica lineman’s pliers.

Great point about the books! To clean the pouches requires a lot cotton swabs after soaking in some soapy water.
