  • I grabbed two toolboxes from an estate sale. One of them is a Craftsman Rally Box that had some random hand tools, the second is a Craftsman Machinist box with some machinist tools inside. Let's take a look to see what they came with.

5:44 That is a flush cut plier. Use it only on zip ties and suitable soft and small gauge wire. Quality tool. I had a pair just like that, probably even the same vintage. Until somebody used them to cut a tamper tag off a power meter box. Snapped a jaw clean off. Those tamper tags are hardened stainless for those interested.

Brownell's is an outdoors/hunting/firearms retailer. Among many other things, they sell gunsmithing tools like some of the screwdriver/bits you have there. The slotted screws used in firearms are generally turned with a bit/driver that isn't tapered in thickness like a regular slotted screwdriver is. It allows for better grip and less likely to slip or strip out the slot in the screw.
    Take care and God Bless.

That’s the Brownell’s Magna-tip set. The green handle is from at least 40-50 years ago, if not older. Believe it or not that’s the one thing in both boxes I’d love to have because of its history, as I love old gunsmithing tools.
The blue stubby handle is much newer and comes with each of the Magna-tip sets. I have their fixed blade screwdriver set in an oak block from 1994, they even supplied a brass name tag for it. I also have the Magna-tip Super and thin bit sets.
They make magna-tip handles in different lengths, as well as non-magnetic “clip tip” handles for times you don’t want your work magnetized. My favorite are the mid length “law enforcement handles” that allow you to get closer to your work. They expect you will break some bits over time, so they sell large and small grinding stones 1 1/8” and 5/8” for use in a Fordham or Dremel rotary tool or drill press that allows you to regrind the tips back to factory or to a different configuration for custom gun screws. If you ever see a buggered gun screw, you know whoever did it was a hack and didn’t use one of these type bits.
My Dad was a gunsmith and I have a bunch of Brownell’s tools. They’re the best quality and guaranteed forever to the original owner. They also sell reloading stuff, and firearms accessories like quality slings and a thousand other things. Great outfit.
Those Brown & Sharp micrometers easily quintupled your $50 investment, so well done! I enjoy seeing “unboxing” old items like this, so new subscriber here! 👍

Looks like Kennedy was making those toolboxes for Sears Craftsman. The Machinist chest is wider because of the square drawer in the center. ..Which was designed to perfectly fit the "The Machinist Handbook". Common knowledge is some circles, but for those who didn't know...

Back in the 1950'S my dad had a Yankee push screwdriver. Also had a push driver for drilling small holes in wood ( maybe up to 3/16" ). Nice vidio. When I retired 5 years ago and bought home a large tool chest and two milk crates of tools told the wife I was going to stop buying toys man tools. Yep just don't know what year ! Just the mics was worth the $45 that you paid. Have one of the four sided thread chaser only tool cart last 50 years. Only used it twice.

I’m guessing the items at 1:40 and 2:00 are used to ‘set’ snap fasteners. There are two parts. You have several of the ‘punches’ but missing the round ‘disk’ anvil half. They are usually included with a bunch of snaps, likely why there are so many.

The oddly shaped (triangular) stones are used for gouges, or wood turning type tools, with a curved convex/concave blade. Hope thats the case because thats what I use them for ! The measuring tool drawer is indeed the money drawer 👍

Late to the game on this one, but the 26" machinist may be Kennedy manufacture (one of the makes Craftsman rebadged. Waterloo was another, but this has the drop-pins for the front cover locking) 1:40 as mentioned elsewhere, appear to be rivet sets for snaps or grommets. Brownells is heavy to gunsmithing. 6:35 cutting inserts, maybe? Not sure what for. 7:30 Yankee driver bits it is (North Bros, bought by Stanley post WW-II, Craftsman rebadged for years) 9:10 mandrels for something (internal holding- they expand) 9:30 internal scraper for cleaning, like a smoking pipe reamer. 10:55 taper pin hole reamers 13:45 boring bar

Very cool. What do you do with the tool boxes? I"ve seen how some people set up multiple boxes in their workshops.
Lately I've had my eyes open for 1980s or 1990s Craftsman bottom boxes. The plan is to have a couple of those rather than a huge modern box. (Did I say a couple?....I meant three or four or however many I can get away with before they send me off to the looney bin).

@@thetoolbandit RUclips has brought out a bunch of tool collectors. Somewhere, some bat channel I saw a guy who had a tool collection neatly organized in drawers. It was actually pretty cool.
I like the idea of having a tool box full of displays
Any reason to buy more tool boxes is a win in my book.
