You know what? Come to think of it I believe it was my very first rpg. I got to play a demo of it because back then there was a demo service by the name of PlayStation Underground which if you signed up for it they would send demos of a few games on one disc to your house through mail. I tried it and fell in love so I ended up buying it. I was just a kid though, so my dumb ass had no concept of what a memory card was. So yeah, this was the bad boy which broke me into the genre. The following year I picked up Final Fantasy 8 and I've been onboard the rpg train ever since.
finally, someone appreciates my favorite game. Its has a battle system that any fighting game fanatic could love and a monster skill system that is more that a parlor trick like most jrpgs, and I have never played other JRPG where I was still using early game skills and magic by the end of the game.

This was in my opinion the best rpg game I played on original Playstation. As a teen girl gamer I loved that when you got new gear your look changed, and the discovering of attack combos was an amazing mechanic I loved and helped me to remember them.
This game was always make me happy when I was 13 years old. Now I'm 34 years old with 2 children, watching this masterpiece...a peacefull memory awakening in me
I used to spend my whole life for games like legend pf legaia, ffviii, and suikoden ii, so watching videos like this makes me happy to the max! I am so glad you made this video of legend of legaia with it's pluses and minuses. Underrated indeed! But will always be one of my best JRPGs. Thank you!

nice to see someone is still covering a great gem of a game like this. Hooked the ps2 up and im going with some retro lately. Beat vandal hearts 1 about a month ago. Been thinking of starting up Legaia again. One of my favorites for sure
@@Water_Lily44 sadly not! the console i used to play ps1 games was one of those fat ps3s and it stopped being able to play discs around then lol. i recently got a pc capable of decent emulation tho so the game will be played dammit! (and yes, I'm surprised you remembered lol)
God i love your videos Clemps. I can see the craftsmanship and hardwork in each one. I love hearing about these niche games ive never seen presented by your velvety buttery tones. Your Drakengard videos are what brought me and i stay for the fact that i want to hear what you have to say on just about any game. Im sure its in the works but god id love to see you do a video for Nier. Keep up the good work friendo.
I'm so glad someone made a video about this! This is one of my fav ps1 games! And likewise no one else rarely has any idea what im talking about when I bring it up. Such a great game!
I played the sequel on the ps2 and I it was one of my favorite games on that system never got to see the first so its nice to see people talking about it.
This is my favourite game of all time ever, it makes me so happy to see other people appreciating it! It can be a little depressing to have nobody recognize your favourite game. Thanks so much for making this video! (Also I actually really liked the battle theme ;3 )
i remember playing this game when i was like 7 or 8 and it was my favorite game ever. i played for a long as time and i used to have nightmares about the juggernaught. then when i beat it and got it as a summon i was so happy.
I’ve rewatched this video so many times simply because it’s hilarious and one of the only videos on YT talking about this game. Also the video that introduced me and made me sub to Clemps :) thanks, Legaia.
Wow! Like many of the others here, I happened to have played this as a kid back in the glory days of the PS1. I've always had these precious memories hidden away somewhere in my mind cabinet. It wasn't until I stumbled upon this video in my recommendations and watched it that it helped me to remember the game I spent many hours of my childhood playing and probably THE game that introduced me to, and got me hooked on, the wonderful world of RPGs and JRPGs. Oh, how those were simpler times... I think a trip down memory lane is order. Thank you so much for the video on this, Clemps. ♥
I had the demo for this game as a kid and I thought it was really cool but for the longest time I never got to see past the starting village of the game. A few months back I remembered this game and tried to order a copy on ebay............... the fuckers sent me the same demo I played as a kid. I haven't tried finding a new copy. XP
Well you can try to download a ISO online for free though :v But that require the use of an emulator yet in the end, PS1 Emulator pretty easy to use and quite forgiving no matter how crappy your computer is :v
Ok...so being nostalgic about Legend of Legaia led me here and I'm very glad that it did. I played it quite a bit in my youth, but never got far. Two very memorable things were the Twin Tomb mantis guys static animation looking like they were drumming to the beat of the fight music and thunder punching the ostrich things in the beginning is hilarious. Also...you are a wonderfully strange person. Subscribed.
Xenogears has a very different system. There is a weak, medium and strong attack in the game. There are four different weak attacks if you chain them together, two different medium, and just the one attack for a strong hit. Each of these different types of attacks have their own XP associated with them and the special moves, called deathblows, require a certain amount of XP from each type of attack. Once you've met those requirements, you will unlock the deathblow attack (assuming you're the right level to learn it also).
Didn't know you had done a video on this game until today, man now I feel like replaying it, my younger got as a Christmas gift shortly after it got released, we both played the heck out of this game and now that I remember I saw him replaying it last year...good times.
I loved this game when I was younger. For a while, I thought that was just nostalgia talking since I didn't remember it holding up on a replay, but it turned out that was because of crippling emulation issues when playing it on the PS2 that causes massive slowdowns, making it borderline unplayable. Going back and replaying it with a better setup made me realize that the game was even better than I remembered it, and I genuinely feel that Legend of Legaia is the best RPG on the console not named Final Fantasy. It actually held up much better than a lot of its contemporaries, like Lunar, Wild ARMS, and Legend of Dragoon. Considering that this is a first-party Sony game, I really wish that the company would re-release it in some way. It's a real shame that this game has been all but forgotten in recent years.
This game is one of my favorite's of all time, I'm so glad to have seen this video pop up on my recommended videos! I remember having to buy a strategy guide so I could learn all of the moves back in the dark ages before internet walkthroughs.
häHaven't played it for over 15 years now. Still remember grinding for Saru level ups and methodically trying out every attack combo possible. Became too powerful through it and walzed trough the bosses like a god.
This was my favourite game as a kid, just replayed it through (because I never got to beat it due to the difficulty of the DeLilas family lol). Loved this tribute, and you! Subbed.
Slowly becoming my favorite youtuber I love how you play this old school rpgs. Have you ever played lost odyssey or the last story two really underrated rpgs too.
Mikael Saunders what about the one, can't remember the name, but it cameoed Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 as a playable character on it, it was PS one, but it was not a fighter game, it was another RPG and the name escapes me
The only other game I know that had Cloud as a cameo was Final Fantasy Tactics. You'd achieve him by returning to Goug Machine City after acquiring Worker 8.
I'm going to guess it's Ehrgeiz. The "Main Mode" was fighting, but it also had an RPG Mode as well. finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Ehrgeiz:_God_Bless_the_Ring
Holy hell Clemps, I didn't know you did a video on Legend of Legaia. Fuck yeah, dude! Legaia was the shit! It hasn't aged greatly, but it's still a hell of a fun play. A mobile port, maybe for the 3DS or something, would do wonders for it.
Thanks for reminding of this awesome game. I remember renting it as a kid and having a blast. I've wanted to play it ever since. I think your video is motivation to try again!
There's a reason Nintendo fanboys and everyone else always insult this game's longer boss battles.....they NEVER truly played it, since its a better RPG than theirs!!!!!!! By far, Juggernaut spell on everyone= sublime!
It kinda is way beyond any of the Xenoblades too, for sure, as far as story and content goes. Even though Xenoblade is good, none of em touch Legaia de Legend.
i love your videos, man! it's a rare treat when gaming youtubers talk about niche games that honestly need more attention. keep it up and congrats on 4000 subs.
I agree, Gala is a piece of crap in the start where you get him (because he always join level 1, regardless of the level of Vaan and Noa he'll get some exp back when he fight Songi alone), but he always ended up being my strongest character, all because of the combos he can deliver once his spirit bar gets to the point where you have 9 slots with spirit, once you get to that, you'll absolutely destroy everyone in your way. PS: i think there's a water that increase the action bar (i think it's Swift Water), you should give all of them to Gala, so he can get his overpowered combos (5 slots combos) and carry you to victory.
Which arts do you combo with Gala? His miracle art? I just figured out lightning strike/electro thrash combo and it is damn good he does not have 9 slots for me yet.
I don't care if you've made this 4 years ago but I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel and saw that you made a video about this gem! This was my very first RPG game I played and I never forget it, even though I never get to finish the game and even though many people remember Legend of Dragoon as the more popular game.
Man honestly you fucking missed out on a great game if you've never played this. THIS. GAME. WAS. BAD. FUCKING. ASS. Best battle system I've ever seen in an rpg before or since. Xenogears was kinda cool too though.
This video sold me to your channel. It's like... I barely see any mention of this game and oftentimes I legit wonder if it actually existed or if it was all in my head. After seeing this video I'm convinced I haven't fallen off into a wormhole into a parallel universe where Legend of Legaia was never released. So... thanks. c:
IM DOING YOU GUYS A BIG SOLID if youre going to play this on a ps1 emulator, don't get this game off of coolrom. It will always crash at Conkram (a point that's pretty far in the game) I haven't tried any other roms yet, but yeah, the crash is unfixable and you wont be able to advance past that part of the game
i'm getting this issue either (conkram's mirror?), but after i installed newer version of pcsx or ePSXe or whatever it called i can get rid of that bug.
This game was underrated and difficult at times. All the vocals in battles were amazing. I saved points at Songi Battles and Delilas Family just to enjoy them again.
My brother and I played Legend of Legaia and Duel Saga off and on. Somehow it always draws us back 22/19 years later. Whether it be the soundtrack, dynamics of gameplay, or the versatility of your counterparts within the game. Definitely noteworthy, minus the jizz gloves Clemps. Your game name is officially added to my text suggestions. Hope you are proud of yourself.
I used to rent this game all the time when it first came out, but I never owned it, and never finished it unfortunately. However, I was incredibly lucky earlier this year, and picked it up in a thrift store for $1. I haven't had much time to sit down with it again, but the little bit I have played reminded me of all of the great times I had with it years ago. Your video hits the nail on the head as far as what I remember, and have seen recently, and I love your editing style. I'm subbing.
Honestly the reason Gala sucks so much as a fighter is because he's basically the game's mage (because reasons). Noa is the true power house of the team. Really hope you do videos for Breath of Fire 3 or Brave Fencer Musashi.
adventkamen seriously though, you'd think she would be the mage, but being alone with a wolf for 10 years, yeah, I'm a wolf, but some punk like Yamcha XD
adventkamen Pretty much this. I never understood why Gala was so bad when I was young. Playing it again years later, it's glaringly obvious that Gala is meant to use spells. He had the most MP and INT by a lot. I guess the logic is that Gala is the smartest of the 3, and Noa is the dumbest. Their casting ability reflects this.
Funny thing is, even though Gala sucks hard at the beginning (and sometimes you'll feel very frustraded because of him), after the 2nd fight against Songi, when you get the Thunder Book II (or after Dohati, for that matter), Gala becomes REALLY GOOD! He has a lot of HP and defence stats, so he's like a major tank in the team (well, it's not like you can have him take all the hits, but he can get a lot of hits before you actually heal him), and even if he has a spirit bar not as large as Noa's, he does more damage on each individual strike, and the same goes for his hyper arts. By the time you get out of Sol (or should I say around level 27~30+?), just compare the damage you do with Gala's Thunder Punch vs Noa's Forest Breath and you'll see what i mean. He might suck at the beginning, yes, but Legend of Legaia wouldn't be the same without him. BTW, the true power house of the team is Vahn. Period.
Mechanically similar, but Legaia's closer focus on a smaller cast of characters(and lack of mecha) led to more polish. Not to say xenogears is bad, seeing as it has weapon-based arts(and the mecha).
I just wanted to say this game is what started my gaming career it is a wonderful piece of escapism and a fantastic journey! You did it justice. Really a wonderful piece of art.

First of all, THANK YOU!!
Second of all, now Automata has a release date... well, the analysis will be out before Christmas. ;)
What a fun tribute to a favorite ps1 classic. I was just thinking of this game randomly and looked up videos on it, and watched yours. Cheers.
Nice; I loved this game back in the day. I dug the battle system, and also the whole concept of the Mist I thought was creepy and cool.
Joelle Willsey you should also get into Xenogears
i remember playing this game when i was like 7 or 8 and it was my favorite game ever. i played for a long as time and i used to have nightmares about the juggernaught. then when i beat it and got it as a summon i was so happy.
I’ve rewatched this video so many times simply because it’s hilarious and one of the only videos on YT talking about this game. Also the video that introduced me and made me sub to Clemps :) thanks, Legaia.
Definitely an underrated game. They need to add this to the Playstation store now!!
XP
Well you can try to download a ISO online for free though :v But that require the use of an emulator yet in the end, PS1 Emulator pretty easy to use and quite forgiving no matter how crappy your computer is :v
aqsuperman agreed
Play it on emulator, it's way better since you can save the game anywhere you want with it
Last time I saw another copy it was a bit expensive sadly.
I have the iso if you want it mate. www.dropbox.com/s/bdstwr0cjo1o6zy/SCUS94254.rar?dl=0
Subscribed.
I wish this have a remake.
I've always wished for a remake as well
My first RPG on the PS1, it was amazing, I loved how you literally saved the word, bit by bit
I believe Xenogears has a fighting style very similar to this game, where as you put in ^ v < > combos and some lead to techniques being discovered.
I don't think I ever beat this!! I remember getting very far, time to replay, I still have my copy!
The music in the very end and during the "dance dance revoution" joke were so good. Especially the one at the end :)
Subbed.
I just started this game yesterday. It was just a odd find in a box... It was dusty and i had never seen it. Its awesome.
Lulu Linn Hope you enjoyed it!
man, between this and your Nier analysis you've made a believer out of me. subscribed! keep up the amazing work
Slowly becoming my favorite youtuber I love how you play this old school rpgs. Have you ever played lost odyssey or the last story two really underrated rpgs too.
Thanks a lot man, appreciate it! And you bet your ass I've played Lost Odyssey. Fantastic game, haven't touched Last Story though
Wasn't tactics, it was a puzzle platform game I believe, with fighting
I'm going to guess it's Ehrgeiz. The "Main Mode" was fighting, but it also had an RPG Mode as well.
finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Ehrgeiz:_God_Bless_the_Ring
Laughed a lot of times, you deserve this freaking SUB, TAKE IT!!!!! best childhood jrpg, even now I'm still playing it for nostalgia.
Holy hell Clemps, I didn't know you did a video on Legend of Legaia. Fuck yeah, dude! Legaia was the shit! It hasn't aged greatly, but it's still a hell of a fun play. A mobile port, maybe for the 3DS or something, would do wonders for it.
I'm sold on this game. Thank you
Yea I loved this game but nobody knew wtf I was talking about when I’d mention it
Thanks for reminding of this awesome game. I remember renting it as a kid and having a blast. I've wanted to play it ever since. I think your video is motivation to try again!
3:45
I'm not sure, I didn't play this game, but the combo stuff sounds a lot like Xenogears.
It kinda is actually.
There's a reason Nintendo fanboys and everyone else always insult this game's longer boss battles.....they NEVER truly played it, since its a better RPG than theirs!!!!!!! By far, Juggernaut spell on everyone= sublime!
DerTomatenToaster: It kinda is way beyond Xenogears, think more Mortal Kombat In the Cage.....
It kinda is way beyond any of the Xenoblades too, for sure, as far as story and content goes. Even though Xenoblade is good, none of em touch Legaia de Legend.
It was just like it. I played xenogears, Xenosaga, legend of legaia 1 and 2.
oh man, just loved this video. Legend of Legaia was my first JRPG and still my favorite of all times. thanks for this video. the world just needed it
Thanks for the new video
I'm playing it at the moment for the first time since I was 10 or so. It's aged really well. Still one of my favourite games.
My first rpg. Highschool days huhu
i love your videos, man! it's a rare treat when gaming youtubers talk about niche games that honestly need more attention. keep it up and congrats on 4000 subs.
I used to love renting this at Hollywood Video!
Mr Wednesday hollywood video?? Throwback.
thanks for sharing! I missed a lot of JRPGs back in the day (even though I played tons) so it's nice to hear of good ones that are worth picking up
I agree, Gala is a piece of crap in the start where you get him (because he always join level 1, regardless of the level of Vaan and Noa he'll get some exp back when he fight Songi alone), but he always ended up being my strongest character, all because of the combos he can deliver once his spirit bar gets to the point where you have 9 slots with spirit, once you get to that, you'll absolutely destroy everyone in your way.
PS: i think there's a water that increase the action bar (i think it's Swift Water), you should give all of them to Gala, so he can get his overpowered combos (5 slots combos) and carry you to victory.
Which arts do you combo with Gala? His miracle art? I just figured out lightning strike/electro thrash combo and it is damn good he does not have 9 slots for me yet.
miracle water is the only way to increase agility besides leveling up and the honey
I don't care if you've made this 4 years ago but I'm so glad I stumbled onto your channel and saw that you made a video about this gem! This was my very first RPG game I played and I never forget it, even though I never get to finish the game and even though many people remember Legend of Dragoon as the more popular game.
i still cant forget the first superarts i learned by friggin pushing random buttons. right, right, left, right, right, left,up,up,up SUPER TEMPEST STRIKE!
hell yea the feeling of discovering new arts was sooooooo good
you see "NEW ART" and you go like " HOLY SHIT WHAT IS HE GONNA DO??"
you're my new favorite, most relatable youtuber, so thanks for existing babyyyy
Try legend of the dragoon another hidden gem !
andres de la fuente you made my week brother of the golden age of gaming
And Xenogears, and Chrono Cross
Thanks for letting more people learn about this classic. My older brother gave it to me when It first came out and I still beat it every couple years.
Man honestly you fucking missed out on a great game if you've never played this. THIS. GAME. WAS. BAD. FUCKING. ASS. Best battle system I've ever seen in an rpg before or since. Xenogears was kinda cool too though.
David White It was a badass game. So terribly underrated. It needs to be on PSN.
yea I'm always really sad when almost noone played this game it was soo underrated cause I absolutely loved it
totally agree the story as well was great
My 2 favorite games.
Ninja brought me here
My brother and I played Legend of Legaia and Duel Saga off and on.
TORNADO FLAME!!!!
I love this game but never beat it(I stopped at first mist factory and never went back to it)
time to go back mate www.dropbox.com/s/bdstwr0cjo1o6zy/SCUS94254.rar?dl=0
You gotta finish. Story gets crazy at the end. Time for my yearly replay.
Stopped at the first mist factory??
:Turns face to look at the camera:
This is the only yt video i found that appreciates legend of legaia, you my good sir deserves this like.
I played the fuck out of legend of lagaia 2 on a demo disc. I loved that game.
Sammyboy7266 Remember the stew we would make by the campfires. At times it would give us special abilities. #Legaia2
GammaLGP hmm
Period.
Fawlker TORNADOFLAME!!!🔥🔥🔥
Final Fantasy IX and Legaia are part of my top 3 games too! Awesome video!
So who is coming here after the Ninja interview on Jimmy Fallen?
my favourite jrpg of all time and one of the reasons i love video games. you got yourself a new sub with this video.
doesnt xenogears have the same type of combat
They are pretty similar though.
Similar in the fact that both have anime style fighting thanks to the cool characters.
Mechanically similar, but Legaia's closer focus on a smaller cast of characters(and lack of mecha) led to more polish.
Not to say xenogears is bad, seeing as it has weapon-based arts(and the mecha).
Seriously, man, you are the talent that this site is sorely missing and desperately wanting. Keep it up and don't let yourself limit you. Good luck.
Alright, who came here after watching Ninja’s stream
I just wanted to say this game is what started my gaming career it is a wonderful piece of escapism and a fantastic journey! You did it justice. Really a wonderful piece of art.
Awesome review! I'm so glad I found your channel, I love your style! Funny and informative, very entertaining.
"This is why you don't get many views becuase of the niche and obscure games you cover" This is why I love your videos Clemps. I discovered your channel a few months back and binge watched everything. Your channel is like the games you review obscure, quirky, unique, maybe not the best but through pure unbridled charisma gain a strong cult following. This is not to say I don't want you to get big, all the best for your endeavours of this channel. Also you seem like a pretty humble, down to earth, self-aware guy who can take the mick out of himself. Just wanted to thank you for the content and some comfy viewing.
Stay classy you filthy weeaboo bastard!
You had no business capturing my exact emotions perfectly in remembering this game HAHA. This game is still and always will be my favourite JRPG of all time.
I’m so glad you covered this. I remember renting it as a kid and had been randomly remembering it for 15 odd years but had no idea what it’s name was.
Of all the praises you heaped on the game the sound design is inarguably the thing that left the BIGGEST impression on me.
my very first jrpg ever! thanks for covering this!
I remember buying this game on a whim when I saw it on the shelf way back when it came out. I never got very far in it, but your video is giving me the itch to go back and take another shot at it.
My Legaia hype never died down, but it hit a new high with the announcement of the PlayStation Classic.
If it's on that tiny box, I'll be a day one purchaser.
Also, this video was really fun! You're funny, smart, and talented.
Gaza and Dr. Usha rock.
Ok, this showed up in my recommended videos. Congratulations, you earned a new subscriber. Good video
