That was a lot of fun! The Noble Screamer was designed to "as closely as possible" replicate the orignal designs of those two famous pedals So That we could give people an honest look at the two unique hybrid modes that would be created by swapping clipping and tone sections. While developing the NS I thought it would be fun to have a Mod Plus version of the NS that was my modified 808 and a bass mod to the ODR...but that's for another day. The Noble Screamer replicates the tone and feel of the orginals so that players can find the best tone that fits in the recording mix or with their band live.
What sells me on your pedal, is not how it sounds in my monitor head phones, but how good it sounded in my truck's (admittedly very nice) audio system on the way to work. It will sound good to someone that hears it in a normal setting.
Sorry sir Keeley, honestly, with 255 dollars (or 255 euros) that your pedal costs I'll buy an original ts-808 and a nobels odr-1 (both sound better than your pedal) and if I need them with little money then I'll make them myself modify. And I have two independent devices with individual adjustments. I don't see why anyone would buy your pedal. Sincerely? I prefer you when you modify Boss and Ibanez pedals.
@@silviolutti1522 thats a dead end argue, why should anyone buy new pedals if you can diy and mod them. Its nice to have both pedals in one package (space, power supply…) and when its sounds as good as this one why not buying it.
In my monitor headphones, Keeley's sounds very close to the originals. It's also worth mention that the way you play guys, makes all the pedals to sound exceptionally good. I call this the "TPS Effect". Kudos...
I got mine on day one of release straight from Keeley’s site. Haven’t cut it off yet. Absolutely love what it can do with my Strats. Thanks guys, great video!! ❤
Like the new video format and the midweek content. On this one, I’d imagine the main selling point is the mix-and-match settings, as most players own tube screamers (or else have decided they weren’t for them) and the Nobles is pretty popular too.
Noble Screamer is unbelievably great. I was not into it, but I tried it at GC and fell in love immediately. It does almost everything. It’s great for bright, spikey British Invasion tones.
Is it me or can we get more of you guys playing. You guys are amazing and I love the information delivered and don’t want anything less just more of you two playing your playing is genuinely awesome and I could listen all day or whenever I am unable to play myself (work)
Yes, so fun this! Great loud amazing sounds all around. What's so great about this: no bad sounds from anything. There's no doubt that Mick's 808 is a box of unsurpassed magic. That said: wow, Keeley does it again! That is maybe the "best" to me ODR-1 sound I have ever heard - but wow this is all so subjective, but so worth it. Thanks fellas. Keep it up.
Very interested in trying this as it’s supposed to be more like the original odr1 than the current production ofr1. With regards to the TS side - Google tells me that “The TS808 Tube Screamer w/ Keeley Mod+ tweaks the drive control, allowing less distortion than normal in lower settings for a transparent punch and even more gain when the knob is up for a snarling distorted assault.” I assume the noble screamer is trying to replicate a standard TS808 which might explain why it was felt the noble screamer didn’t sound like your TS. Either way, it sounds great over yt! 😀. Thanks for the demo.
Yah, and add to that, even a lot of ‘standard’ 808s sound waaaaaaay different from one another. So it’s always about individual pedals, just as it is guitars. We say ‘an 808 sounds like…’ Well, which 808?
I know you guys don't "demo" pedals per se (though your viewers like me probably consume them at way haha), but I really appreciate how you both approach gear, especially new gear. Most of love, love more TPS content!

When I need a TS808 I have one. I don't need this. I guess it could save you space on the board, but the Shanks is phenomenal!
I think on this side of things, after RUclips compression and everything, the differences between the 808 and the Noble Screamer were greatly diminished (even through my Kali Audio monitors). The difference definitely became more stark when you added more drive, though.

Some constructive feedback: the comparison on the screamers is that Micks is modded while the new Keeley is based on a standard issue tube screamer. A better comparison would be to toss in an un-modded screamer for an “apples to apples “ review. Still a great review, but based on the comments here it comes across as not the same (because they are not).
Wow! Not bad at all but maybe the Nobles Screamer is designed for nails “as much as possible” the two without being a mere copycat of the originals. It might be… P.S.: you 808 sounds terrific, Mick! Is unbelievable, whether is louder or not! Damn, is fantastic!😍
I find myself liking the Keeley better than the Nobels. I’ve never *loved* the odr by itself. I’ve used it to help dirty up certain modulations, used it with a zendrive or KOT (I forget which) to tweak some “dumbly midrange” sounds…but by itself, it never really got me off in the way a good TS or KOT does. Keeley’s take has a bit more of a substantial chewiness to its saturation, which would usually be more up my alley.
Dan, can you remind of us of why you prefer the Noble over the Screamer? Is it something to do with compression? or the frequencies of strat pups vs tele pups?
FWIW, this kinda reads like: “Look, I want my free guitar content short and ps, fuck you guys.” It’s very negative. You’re channelling a great deal of negativity that I am now channeling. Mick here. There is a better way, right? For example. “I find many TPS videos too long, but enjoyed this more concise format.” And then I could say, “thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it.” And then we’d all feel good, instead of feeling bad because you’ve chosen to insult us because the free content isn’t //exactly// what you want. Argh. It’s a sadness that pervades so much social media. Anti-social media. Anti-social remedia is what it’s become. Feel better man.
Are we supposed to care about Micks tubscreamer? This new pedal is great and It pulls off a great nobles and tube screamer sound plus a whole lot more. This is a new hybrid pedal that is innovative and gives a totally new spin on combing drives. Robert Keeley is a genius, and you both did not give him his due in this video.
Based on this I just put my ODR-1 back into the pedal chain. First thing I notice is that all of a sudden I'm getting pickup from the mobile phone. There's a load of noise where it wasn't there before. Swapped it out for a Proco Rat and the mobile chirps disappear again. I'm guessing there is probably a dry joint in the ODR-1. Annoying. Anyway, I reckon the old Ibanez TS has the magic that seems to be acquired with age. Definitely something in there.
The problem with this shootout, and a lot of your TS shootouts, is that you’re comparing something that’s supposed to sound like a stock TS to a Keeley modded Mod+ TS. Mick’s TS isn’t the sound of a standard TS.
Any suggestions on how to get this Nobel Screamer to sound less muddy? I'm running it through a Marshall Orgine 50 and can't seem to get it to sound crisp. When I use the ODR1 it's fine. The actual ODR1.
Sorry, like Tom, the Tube Scream is not my jam! I finally figured out the Klon… after I sold the originals. I’ve not bonded with the scream . I tried a Nobalz mini and didn’t like it. XTS told me not all Nobalz sound the same. I loved my Keeley Blues Driver. Never should have sold it. Dan, I think “Red’s” neck pickup sounds excellent.
I think one of these in a duel format with the phat mod AT might be for me the perfect post fuzz preamp. I could buy them separately but then I’d have to stretch to a patch cable. Them times is hard…
Hey Mick! Would love to hear your thoughts/opinions on your Keeley Modded TS808, and also your modded Maxon OD9 (not including the Bad Bob boost part, just pure TS tone). What tonal differences do you perceive between both these modded TSs, and which do you prefer from a pure TS tone perspective? (I thought both have been a favourite at some point). Thanks!
As a palindromic 31 year old (i.e. 13 in mind still), I found the 'Nobscream' label very funny. It's ok - I know where the door is and already have my coat.
Im not sure comparing it to a 808 modded pedal no one else can get or has is the way to go.. Off the rack gentleman, off the rack like everyone else for comparison
I'm in the minority I find short videos boring yay it's more tps but I like tangents etc it helps because I have adhd and my brain is all over the place
@@ThatPedalShow If the question is simply is it better than a that particular RK modded 808, I would agree. I believe a more fair comparison is to a stock TS, which it was designed to replicate, and to my ear it's inditinguisiable from, in person. Comparing it to a stock Nobels is a little more difficult, regardless of attempts at controls, because 10 Nobels can sound like 10 different circuits because (much like vintage EHX pedals) they frequently used different components with wide tolerances, for cost savings. I do agree that this specific RK modded TS 808 sounds better than that side of the Nobel Screamer... on my computer, with YT compression, which likely is dramatically different than what you guys hear in the room.

Thanks!
The 808 is still superior. Then again, I prefer an SD-1, so there you go lol
Can you adjust the aperture on the close ups? Because the depth of field is too shallow for us to read the settings.
It should pan across the knobs so follow the focus and you’ll see it!
still prefer Mick's Ts808 too 🤤
That particular 808 sounds head and shoulders above the Keeley.
that particular one had my mod plus mods to it, I wanted it to sound better than a stock tube screamer. 🙂
@@RobertKeeleyTV So! Do you make a stock OD that sounds like the mod? I have your AT MOD pedal, which I really enjoy. 👍🏼
Hold on. What day is it?
So that leaves us with the question, where the hack do we get a TS808 that sounds like Micks…
Awesome
As a palindromic 31 year old (i.e. 13 in mind still), I found the 'Nobscream' label very funny. It's ok - I know where the door is and already have my coat.
I want so badly to like a Nobel ODR 1 but it never stays on my board.
That modded 808 sounded way better in all settings 🤷♂️
Noel’s knobs is now and will ever be the best thing ever.
Noel Gallagher finally changed you hahahahahaha!XD
Does the Keeley pedal have the same bass issue as the original ODR?
Im not sure comparing it to a 808 modded pedal no one else can get or has is the way to go.. Off the rack gentleman, off the rack like everyone else for comparison
Point is, they ALL sound different. And then once you add the player… totally different.
I'm in the minority I find short videos boring yay it's more tps but I like tangents etc it helps because I have adhd and my brain is all over the place
Ibanez 1982
I don't get Tubescreamers. I just hate that tone. Especially on the lower strings. Yuck. The Nobels on the other hand is ok.
Still not feeling this pedal after watching at least 5 videos on it. Done. NO sale!
I propose the name of the show is changed to Pedal Daddies.
Really an unfair comparison if the TS 808 is a RK Modded version…
There’s no ‘fair’ in guitar tones. Just whatever your actual question is.
I had the pedal for like an hour . Didn't like it
scammers in the comment section!
And the conclusion for me is....just buy a Nobels 😄.
