Another step back in time , fantastic . Browns yard at Stairfoot , just around the corner from my Dad's yard , James C Ashworth had yard next to my school in Doncaster , they used to have double deck tractor trailers , working out of International Harvester in Doncaster .
Nice one. Brings back memories of when i started work aged 16 in 1982 at a privately owned tyre distribution centre. It was my job to help the early drivers get on their way. Remember 2 seddon atkinsons. One lorry and drag and the other a unit. The other was n ancient 7.5t Bedford. The drivers would leave them running and it would create so much smoke as they chugged away. Reckon they alone were responsible for global warming.
You're welcome 🙏 Ronnie it's really nice to know that people do injoy watching them as they do take a bit of time to make and upload upload.and I do have a full-time job, and family is it can be hard sometimes.but nice comments from subscribers make it worth while.
swains have a nice big yard near me in astley wigan, its a bit old school. i do wonder though how long until someone wants the land for houses its a big site.
@@truckinghistorymydiecastco5274 That would be an interesting thing to find " What haulage company is the oldest established and remaining in business in the UK now ? " The first one that comes to my mind is W H Malcolm.
Great to see the DAF's from CPS Gateshead. I drove for them for a few years carrying extruded aluminium from Birtley and Sanquar. This photo was just before my time with them.
@@laurencecharlton8760 Duncan McRae in Darlington got one. He was an OD and did a change over with his driver based in London. The driver had a Scania 80 and Duncan had the old Foden. It wasn't easy going for both. Nice bloke Duncan was.
Great collection from the past, really enjoyed that, all the British brands are well gone in Australia. Who made "GUY" trucks (5:03)? Surprised to see Japanese trucks, Hino and Nissan UD in the video, they made an entry to the Australian market in early 1970's too. Never seen so many ERF's in my life than on this video, a very popular truck back in the time. Thanks for sharing the memories...😉
So sad, how many of these good companies have gone under. If you rent land near houses or factories, that land becomes worth more to the landlord for more houses or factories, you've got nowhere to go, and sadly you have to shut down, another firm gone. Thanks for the memories. Its not all bad.
Yes, Trevor, when you back and remember how 🤔 many family haulage firms have gone now.but the good news is there's still good few family haulage firms still going.
This is in the days when the job was worth having drivers helped each other to rope and sheet loads their drivers were respected and had respect for other transport drivers today no one waves at each other even drivers from the same company don't wave too each other as Bufed T justice would say was in the heck is the world coming too come on guys get a grip you are all doing the same job truck driving is not a job it is a way of life as well as a brotherhood I have made a lot of friends in my time driving trucks but it is with a heavy heart i have to say i am sorry but a lot of the professional curtsy has gone 😔
Your bang on mate we would warn each other on the road of police ministry with a flash of the lights and a thumb pointing down we all understood what the job was and how hard it could be but we got on with it with pride
These old haulage yards, went about their business, then they built houses next to them and complained to council about noise....councils imposed silly regulations and they closed down 🥵
Very true, Kevin too many houses were built next to haulage yards and then new house owners complaine about the noise of coming and going.knowing full well the haulage company was there already.
I used to go to work with my dad in early 80's and the yard was only shut down in 2004 to be turned into housing, loved watching the trucks coming in and out from my flat round the corner.
Thanks ever so much....I was looking forward to maybe seeing Courtaulds trucks in the vid maybe in the future...I used to drive the Yorkshire route often ....Cleckheaton, Huddersfield, Halifax, Denby dale, Bradford, ..about 1988 no longer trucking and sometimes rose tinted specs are on..I definitely think we was a better society ....thanks for the info and the vids

I wonder how many of these companies are still trading I bet it's not many unfortunately.
It's a shame when you look and see just how many have gone now.

F&F Robinson's half cab fodens were a bit of a novelty at the time, remember seeing them!🤔🚛👍Teesside.
Yes, they were workhorses. I think they were powered by Gardner 150s. All right local but I wouldn't have liked to go down the road with one.
I'm sure they were sent to london, two uncles worked for them,Brian emigrated to oz 1960s,my brother also worked there,70s,they had scanias by then!!

@dieseldavetrains8988 hi guy lorries were made by guy motors of Wolverhampton from the late 1890s.they made cars, lorries, buses, and a few other items.
