Wow. Great video. The news of this was simply 'plane skids off runway after high winds'. Certainly did not detail how potentially tragic it could've been. For those interested the team boarded another flight one day later but out of Detroit Metro instead. The team won the championship of the Big Ten tournament.
This is why all modern airplanes should be built with cameras that show the pilots the position of all the controls on the plane so they can do a visual check before takeoff.
@@chelseamunroe lol. What the heck are you talking about? Cameras mounted on the plane with a monitor in the cockpit that allows the pilots to physically see the different parts of thr airplane. Some modern planes already have this.
@@rashi180 yep, I was alive in the 80s. And actually thr MD83 specifically was manufactured from 1983 to 1999. Other variants like the 81, 82 were made earlier and the MD88 didn't start till 1986.
It appears that a walk around inspection was not done. It is so obvious that the right elevator is down. I would never fly an airplane without a walk around inspection.

no, on the md 80 the control yoke only moves the tabs, which were working, only the air at speed once taking off will cause the elevator to respond to the tab

Md 83 was build in 1980s. So in 1980s technology was less and planes were build with round dial cockpits not glass cockpits with digitals display.

Not either of the Detroit airports, it's Willow Run. The background buildings along the runway and in front of the plane aren't at all correct.
