Paul Newman I agree. My friends and I are always talking about our favorite or best movies. I've seen KH at least 20 times and must watch it if it's on tv. That's my bar of a great movie when you never get tired of watching it. The chemistry of great characters and superb dialogue. This is a rare gem.

Rose McGuinn Not an engineer either but in WWII, they used British made Bailey bridge, prefabbed in 10 foot sections that were pinned together (big iron pins sledge hammered in place) and mounted on pontoons. They’d build it right alongside the damaged bridge rather than try to repair destroyed bridges. The bridge deck sections and pontoons were carried in truck convoys and as in the flick, these convoys often got delayed by any number of causes-bad roads, German attacks, refugees going the other way, etc. A Bridge Too Far shows in detail how WWII soldiers would do this, and it takes time Kelly’s Heroes don’t have.
Carroll O'Connor in his prime! Great cast, movie was shot in what used to be called "Yugoslavia" , 20+ years before the country went ape-shit-sideways. Don Rickles funny line near the end "Correct Kowalski, you win a cookie".
I liked Crapgame's (Don Rickles) line when they're trying to get by the German Panzer defending the bank. "Make him a deal." What kind of deal? "A DEAL deal. Maybe he's a Republican."
There was a novelization of the movie; the theme song, "Burning Bridges" was in the top-40 and Kelly had been an officer in Sicily, until his unit took over a monastery with a wine cellar. After they were sloshed, they got orders to take one of the 3 surrounding hills, but the message was garbled. So they had a good buzz, and they attacked and took the 3 hills, one of which was an American paratrooper unit. So Kelly wasn't an officer any more. Awesome film, and great to see all them stars in an ensemble cast film while they were in their prime.
I think I'd like to read that novel. :-) My mother loved the song when we saw it at the drive-in. She bought one of those K-Tel compilation LPs that were popular in those days because it had that song on it. Apart from a couple of old Patsy Cline records it was the only record she owned.
I loved this movie. My dad took me to see it (which was very rare) He laughed his ass off and so did I. He was a Telly Savalas fan as well as Clint Eastwood and Don Rickles.

This and 'Where Eagles Dare' are pretty much my favourite war movies ever.
Bingo on that...
This was made during a time when war was not a popular theme bc of Vietnam
This is my all time favorite movie. All star cast, tons of laughs, it is pure cinematic magic.
My late Pop took my younger brother and I to see this movie in the theater. Everything about this movie is awesome! Telly, Rickles, Eastwood, and O'Conner all in the same movie. So awesome still!
I just introduced this to a friend of mine and he absolutely loved it! Said it's probably one of his favorite war films, now!
"WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!....that's my other dog impersonation."
Okay
Take it easy kid
I like how when carroll o'connor is yelling at his staff near the end he's holding his pistol like he's about to use it. Just a little detail that cracks me up.
On the Wildwood , NJ boardwalk my brother and I had to spend a day with my father . It was hot in the summer so we went to see this movie (air conditioning was on inside witch was a big deal) when it came out. I'm sure my father just wanted to appease my mother. the day before was a day he went to the horse track with my mothers father .lol...anyway I still remember it. GREAT MEMORIES.... still love it to this day....blessed....Father still with us at 93
One of my favorite movies...only watched it like *50 TIMES*
Without Clint, Lee Marvin, The Duke, Bronson, Mitchum, Vic Morrow, Richard Burton and some 2 dozen other great actors WWII would have been lost lost lost!!!
Get the hell out of here Bonsor we got the game on.....LOL
I LOVE this movie. An all-time favorite. Best character is Oddball. A 60s era hippie 20 years ahead of his time. "Always with the negative waves Moriarity"
flyerscum nhl Gavin Macleod from Mary Tyler Moore & Love Boat. Just realized Sutherland & Moore were in Ordinary People together.
@@samanthab1923 From the grungy slob Moriarty to the impeccably dressed Capt. Merril Stubing.
@@mikeprevost8650 Oh! That’s right 😆
Carroll O'Connor is simply brilliant helped by a fabulous script.
Brilliant. One of my favourite films from my youth. My mates and I went to the cinema 3 times in one week to watch this when it was released.
I was a kid when this came out, as a father I sat my 10 year old daughter down to watch it who had great skepticism, she loves this movie even now at 25.
Easily my favorite movie... Have watched it a lot of times and it never gets old. Great actors, great lines and a great theme song. :)
Peak Yugoslavia too.
One of my top 5 films of all time, brilliant, exciting, funny, moving, anti-war all at the same time, a rare and difficult mix to pull off so well :)
Paul Newman the secret was dropping a Hippy into th middle of the action. He didn't belong but they didn't care and it worked!
I loved this since it first came out! My husband was in Vietnam! Love this still!
Paul Newman I agree. My friends and I are always talking about our favorite or best movies. I've seen KH at least 20 times and must watch it if it's on tv. That's my bar of a great movie when you never get tired of watching it. The chemistry of great characters and superb dialogue. This is a rare gem.
@@nickpav2000 Yes, so good and funny: But does it have better sound on TV than here; i often can't make out what they say. Don't know all words, either though...
@@Medietos yeah the movie has a lot of fast dialogue in it. I can make out what they are saying in this clip okay. I also have the dvd and when I watch movies I always have the closed captions turned on. Then again I've seen it so many times I can repeat it line for line almost.
Every scene in this movie is a masterpiece..
Awesome movie. The One liners, humor, action scenes, music, acting and oddball are all fantastic.
One of greatest scenes in cinematic history. 😊 Carroll O'Connor should have won something for his performance!
Great acting, great story and great music! That's why everyone remembers this classic!
"My equipment 's jammed up in the rear" Big Joe says "un-jammum!!!" haha too funny
we used this this part of the film to discuss bridging operations in the US Army. it really strikes close to home. But love this movie. it's a classic
Oh my! How would you have fixed the bridge shown in this clip? I haven't got a clue myself. I am not an engineer.
Such a great movie... Every scene is classic, every line is quotable.
My personal favorite is make a deal deal maybe hes a Republican
If he's a major,he's a colonel now.
Carroll O'Connor in his prime! Great cast, movie was shot in what used to be called "Yugoslavia" , 20+ years before the country went ape-shit-sideways. Don Rickles funny line near the end "Correct Kowalski, you win a cookie".
Marvin Thiessen The late great Don Rickles.
I liked Crapgame's (Don Rickles) line when they're trying to get by the German Panzer defending the bank. "Make him a deal." What kind of deal? "A DEAL deal. Maybe he's a Republican."
He was talking to Fisher he got the cookie
@@NT-fo3me lol
“Split how many ways??”
When Kelly says "Alright, let's move them out", that was a tribute to Rawhide.
YEEHAW!
I actually read it.10 year old kids should not be reading that book
yah there was a deleted scene in which kelly described that attack, but it was ultimately cut from the film.
Greatest documentary on warfare, combat leadership and motivation ever made.
I love how he’s listening to the radio as a sports fan. Saying “we’re listening to the game, go team go”. Hilarious
One of the greatest war movies of all time and great soundtrack too boot.
One of my all time faves, classic, don't even know how many times i have watched it.
My husband had just been drafted when this movie came out! I love this movie!
One of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite classics. Good stuff!
I loved this movie. My dad took me to see it (which was very rare) He laughed his ass off and so did I. He was a Telly Savalas fan as well as Clint Eastwood and Don Rickles.
I wish they made movies like this today, no CGI all acting and practical effects.
Hey Oddball, I've had nothing but positive thoughts about that damn bridge ever since we left!
Absolute classic film full of epic one liners. I could watch happily once a week and not get bored
I remember my parents taking me to the Bagdad Theater in Portland, Oregon when I was six. I remember loving it then, and still love watching it now. It’s one of those movies I always end up watching whenever I see it playing on tv. I remember it so well, it doesn’t matter what part is playing, I know the film by heart.
One of my favorite movies!!!!!
"BONSOR!!! GET ME MY UNIFORM!!!" I watch this movie all the time and it will always be a favorite and classic.
My Dad introduced me to this movie . And my grandfather who served in Europe during the war absolutely loved the movie! Lol 😂
weave been on the end of a broken bottle since we hit the beaches at Omaha ...love it..my all time favorite film.. i watched when it first came out a the age 12...
I love this movie! A true classic; and unique among war films.
This scene is one if my favourites... and there are many great scenes in this movie. With an All-Star cast of that calibre, it's difficult not to come up with a gem like this.
Even tho i am 24 years old i love this movie since the day i first saw it
Always loved the part where the tank passes the old man and he gets up thinking, WTF 🤣
Carroll O'Connor really played the hell out of that role especially in this clip.
" did you lose my aerial photographs "
One of the best lines.
This is one of Caroll Oconner's most brilliant comiv performances, and that is saying a lot.
This is one from the Joe Six-Pack Genre that everyone loves.
To this day it's still on my Top Ten List. Love the scene where all of them are on the hill figuring out what to do with the tanks while Telly pours the coffee!
"Alright, let's move 'em out."--Kelly.
"Move 'em out."--Gil Favor - Rawhide.
