$500 keyboard = custom keycaps, nice cords, nice aesthetics/case, switches tactile qualities to preference.
Me... I can't even get a custom version of the stuff I care about in Keyboards - but at least the G915TKL does a pretty good job of matching my preferences (low profile, mechanical, RGB, wireless, TKL). Would love to have a matching seperate numpad and macro board for it - but that's not a thing.
I can’t stand mechanical keyboard that my coworker has. Evert time when he types, it sounds like a machine gun and i feel like i just want to punch him in the face. I have the quiet apple Magic Keyboard.
One of the best parts about mechanical keyboards are the wide range of switches that you can use. There are silent switches, loud clicky switches, smooth linear switches and tactiles with a bump to overcome on the way down. Sounds like your co-worker might be using clicky switches!

500 dolars for a wired keyboard? No, thanks.
