No one talked about Pikamee. She is genuinely such a fun VTuber, speaking both English and Japanese in her stream, to keep both audiences updated, which makes it very accessible to those who don't speak Japanese.
Well VOMS is a very new and independant company so they're not as big as HoloLive and Nijisanji. That being said Pika's growing fairly fast for an independant thats also bilingual!
I saw the title and watched like 20 mins of the podcast and then decided to do "research" and literally spent 2 whole days just watching vtubers Now I'm back and I can relate with everything.

I feel like Connor might like Holostars a little better. There’s one guy Roberu who screams a lot but in a fun, entertaining way lol and then Shien Ch who starts to sound like a JoJo character when he’s raging at certain games. But either way the Holostars need more love lol
As someone who's read or watched all three, dont let the internet overhype it for you. Its alright. Not bad. Not amazing. Just a middle ground enjoyable.
The reason why I love podcasts it's that it changes subjects so quickly, they were talking about vtubers then they started talking about anime and jesus references and then suddenly boom. PORN
I think the biggest thing that separates Vtubers from a gimmick is that character that they play/their lore. There's some vtubers that are like that, and others that are essentially just streamers but wih an anime face and I don't think the second type are the ones to really blow up. Even Melody plays a character and she was a literal cam girl. It's not like they stay in character all the time, but it's the difference between them being just a normal, boring human and a character that you can actually interact with and learn about by watching their streams. I honestly just really enjoy the character breaks because I think the VA/youtuber side of things is pretty fascinating. Hololive in particular is great at this because they prep all their vtubers with art, backstories and collabs from moment 1 so that you have all these interwoven stories happening at the same time with the backing of a huge audience already there and ready to watch. Now if only Hololive was actually decent at protecting their talent and not kissing the boots of nutters from china
Fancy seeing you here Rimmy. But yeah, I agree with this comment. Edit: but being a real person adds a lot to VTubers over actual anime characters imo. I think it less being a streamer or being an anime character and more that the unique combination of the two that really makes VTubers great.
I recently bought a 1440p monitor a few weeks ago and I keep getting up close to the screen and staring at Joeys 5 o'clock shadow switching the RUclips quality between 1080p and 1440p just to see how nice this monitor really is. I can clearly see each individual whisker on his face compared to 1080p where the whiskers blend in with his skin. Thanks Joey for giving me a chance to admire my new monitor every episode.
Here's an attempt at a PhD essay on why vtubers. For the record, I have no attachment to Japan's idol industry, and absolutely hate the shady elements about it. Nor did I ever fall into gacha games and waifu collecting, or simping for live streamers under any circumstance. Hell, I didn't even care for any live streamers, even if they had a RUclips presence and I enjoyed their content. At most I'll catch what they upload later, but wouldn't go out of my way to catch their Twitch streams. And strangest of all, I don't actually like the cute girls doing cute things genre. I tolerated some Kyoani productions because of the quality, but they were never my favorites and I didn't really care for the characters and their antics. And despite all of that, I fell down this rabbit hole. Vtubers, and Hololive in particular, have so much going on beyond cute and funny antics. I started out watching Fubuki's acapella songs like her Scatman cover, and tumbled my way into Korone's orbit pretty quickly. But no matter who I find, I can't help but respect the work they put in for their characters. They've trained their voices really well, practiced a lot with their Live2D models, and put in a lot of obvious effort to play up their quirks and exaggerated personalities. I love the anonymity of it, where they've managed to keep this strict separation of offline and online lives that I've frankly missed ever since the rise of social media. It feels like going back to the good old days of hacker screen names and cyberspace, where our online personas didn't have to be built on top of our real world identities. So while we miss out on some of the human experience seeing a live streamer's real face, home, and public persona (obviously distinct from their actual selves of course), we gain something else: an abstracted ideal that both the vtuber and the audience can collaborate together on developing. To an extent, a normal streamer does the same, changing their performance to suit their audience. But to take it as far as what a vtuber does would quickly fall into an uncanny valley of parasocial relationships. It's similar to how older message boards had users who would project themselves through their posts and activities, but the distance between the user and their account allows them to give up some of that characterization to other posters (and their personas). It's a kind of collaborative and public performance where the audience isn't just a passive observer of the art but actively shaping the narrative. It reminds me of the vibrancy you see in an 'open source' community, like Touhou or Vocaloid, where the community can participate in the process in ways that a corporate packaged product doesn't allow for. And I recognize that nostalgic feeling when watching a Hololive stream. With their anime avatars and voice acting combined with cues and reactions to their chat, the girls are basically acting out an anime. But rather than watching a production piece where a team of writers, actors, artists, musicians, and directors created something static for us to consume passively, the Hololive audience are active participants playing the role of directors, background characters, and producers. We're invited to react, comment on, and even subvert the animation and voice acting of the Hololive talent. The medium, too, opens up certain possibilities that a live streamer would find really hard to pull off, such as manipulating their avatars to interact with objects and backgrounds pulled out of thin air on a whim. Like with anime itself, some things are easier to do and show with animation than with a live person on camera. There's also something to be said about their subversiveness, too. A vtuber is in some ways a rejection of the overly produced, RUclips algorithm approved, ad-driven content. There's no obstrusive ad pitch, and no indirect acknowledgement of having to go off-site to financially support them. We see something we like, we donate, and they see it and respond. And while RUclips and Cover Corp. take their cut, they're not intruding on this illusion, almost like the girls are live on stage and we're literally throwing money at their feet whenever we feel like it. The old way would be like if we weren't allowed to do that, and instead were told to buy some random thing during intermissions with the understanding that this 3rd party will be paying the talent. Or if we were having to make a mental note to drive down to the bank after the show and write a check for the talent. The act and the personalized validation of the act are noticeably separate, while the Hololive model essentially erases it from sight and mind. And finally, it's nice to see the concept of the idol turned on its head as the girls start swearing, screaming, and otherwise toying with their titles as they get real about their weird lives, tastes, and otaku habits. In some way, they're more idol-like than actual idols, as they can have a somewhat normal offline life and come back as their characters whenever they want. And they don't need to elevate themselves towards an obsessively unobtainable level of human perfection at all times. Their avatars are cute and expressive and essentially perfect already, meaning they get to relax and humanize the idealized anime avatar with their own personality, rather than suppress it in order to live and breath the physical perfection of a real-world idol.
The fact that Garnt has had enough time to read all of Domestic Girlfriend but still hasn't watched ATLA is concerning. We should start peer pressuring him....

lawl, like 70% of the Hololive members have completely thrown their character lore aside and are now just being themselves, which is great. The "lore" is still there and if asked questions about things like age and occupation they will often answer with whatever their character's story is, but other than that, majority are just being themselves. Watching them reacting to their debut streams is hilarious lol. Matsuri's especially.

Connor in previous podcasts: i fckin hate slife of lide, nothing ever happens Connor talking about dorohedoro: isn't it fine that nothing happens Yeah cdawg keep talkin
Yeah, i always find myself disagreeing with Connor and how hes quite hypocrite sometimes. Also, he's just the typical normie, obsessed with knowing an artist's real self, idk why they are so stuck into finding out how the real person behaves and their personality. He said himself he loves watching Tyler1 despite him almost never showing his real self, only his stream act, but he doesn't get hooked into vtubers because they are hiding behind a persona. He is just being naive and actively stopping himself from enjoying x because y. I had the same thing happen with a friend who hated the whole vocaloid genre, until he found songs he liked and just forgot about how he disliked them at first.
Connor would surprise everyone by bringing his boy toy. And keeps his socks on and says no homo as he proceeded to molest his boy toy. Dont lie we all know he would do it. He has read enough yaoi.
It's so crazy to see how things have changed since this. Garnt and Joey have become semi-regular streamers. Connor is a massive streamer who, despite saying back then that he'd get tired after 2 hours of streaming, will now often go for 7, 10, 12 hours, and 2 hours is a very short stream by his standards. Hololive EN are MASSIVE. VShojo is now a thing (this was released a few months before VShojo). Connor, who'd occasionally watch Mouse and thought she was "very funny", is very close friends with her and a frequent, almost always guaranteed collaborator. All three are also acquainted or friends with many, many VTubers, who they either knew before they became VTubers, or met through friends. Also, Connor and Sydney are totally not VTubers, *wink*. Crazy stuff. Connor: "I need a VTuber who SCREAMS." Tenma Maemi, Pipkin Pippa (many more others, obviously): "Allow us to ontroduce ourselves."
It was some for me, i got recommended Matsuri Band Aids Clip last year, but only when korone ekum bokum video i started investigating Hololive and find my favorite Vtuber
He's at the same stage as me: enjoying vtubers clips sure, but in the same way as you'd enjoy any twitch clips. I definitely don't get why they're being treated as something so amazing, and not just a wave of mostly pretty great streamers that happen to use anime avatars as a cute gimmick.
Joseph Boyd it’s cuz they loudest people are the ones who are really into Vtubers. That’s basically it. Enjoy them however you please. There’s a reason why the streams have way less live viewers than the total subs. Not everyone’s crazy for it. But they’re unique and trending. So of course people will be coming on.

I can't believe rimmy has actual trash taste, BTW next little novel when?

Its no longer trash taste
It would be nice to have a collab with Hololive, but probably won't happen because of the japanese gachikoi, I feel like Coco could do it though.
Fucking hell, man
Nice analysis, though

@@rRekko didnt realize wanting to know about the person behind the persona is "normie"
Grant: imagine having a real life tsundere.
Connor can relate all too well to that now.
Gigguk posts a new video 3 hours ago, Trash Taste posts a new video on the same day and it's time for lunch perfect synergy
Hearing Garnt talk about vtubers here was like the meme of Dicaprio pointing.
They should do an episode where all their girlfriends come one. Or hell have the girls host an episode. Itd be interesting.
Poor Conor would just have to bring Kermit
@@ryangray_ he's just waiting a few months to make sure the relationship is real to admit he's dating tyler1
Connor should bring emily
he should bring his waifu pillow
Connor would surprise everyone by bringing his boy toy. And keeps his socks on and says no homo as he proceeded to molest his boy toy. Dont lie we all know he would do it. He has read enough yaoi.
"PICK A WAIFU AN SIMP" sounds like the direct weeb equivalent to "PICK A GOD AND PRAY" and I stan tbh✨
Connor: "I need a VTuber who SCREAMS."
Tenma Maemi, Pipkin Pippa (many more others, obviously): "Allow us to ontroduce ourselves."
Joey and grant are just like:
Come
Come lets pary
Lets pray
Kizuma is streaming
1:14:55
Conner: "It's like JAV with 50 minutes of build up"
The other boys: "HAHAHAHAHA" "HAHAHAHA"
Me: 'I see everyone here are *men* *of* *culture*'
Slowly falling asleep to Okayu’s ASMR is the best
okayu asmr is so good
i second this
Korone is my fav but Okayu has my favorite voice in Hololive
True true
Okayu singing Hated by life itself made that song not depressing
After hearing Connor's thoughts on vtubers...TELL HIM ABOUT HOLOSTARS
Connor on everything vtuber: "I've seen clips of that".
Sounds like he's already in the hole and doesn't even realize it yet.
It was some for me, i got recommended Matsuri Band Aids Clip last year, but only when korone ekum bokum video i started investigating Hololive and find my favorite Vtuber
The point when you realize your in the hole is the point when your in far too deep.
He's at the same stage as me: enjoying vtubers clips sure, but in the same way as you'd enjoy any twitch clips. I definitely don't get why they're being treated as something so amazing, and not just a wave of mostly pretty great streamers that happen to use anime avatars as a cute gimmick.
You know you're in the hole when there's a livestreaming vtuber on your recommendation and it feels normal.
"When they cry" is referring to Cicadas, cause they're loud in Summer. The creepy sounding title is literally just talking about bugs being loud.
Late 20 year old? Who could that be?
Why can I hear an *A H O Y* in the distance
More like 17 year old season 2
Luna turned 1 recently. At age 0 she was complaining there weren’t enough lewds of her.
@@rickastley7522 wait isn't she still 0?
Pretty sure its Ui mama
Goddamn boomer pirates.
Goddamn sexy boomer pirates.
1 year ago Connor: "it's not like I'm going to simp."
January 2020 Connor: " I gotta win this figure for Mouse."
