Aug of '22 Picked up an '03 Tahoe 4x4 for $2,500! Yeah it's got 200k miles but it's a beast! Looking for a '00-'06 Suburban/Yukon/Tahoe for a parts truck. I'm going to make that Tahoe last another 20 years!
I have a 02 Silverado I bought new that's still going with 600,000 miles, although I'm on my third transmission. Just bought an 01 Silverado with 238,000 for $1400 in great condition and a 01 Suburban LT with 250,000. Great vehicles.
Why the fuck GM would even install an open diff in a truck with an off road package baffles me🤦♂️😅. Luckily my Z71 came factory with G80 and 3.73:1 gear ratio😎.
This video help me alot and I'm going to install one in my 2003 chevy avalanche z71 and kick butt when I go offroad with the toyota tacoma's I can do almost everything on my truck but when that rear wheel gets off the air im gone 😅 and have to back up and change my line but takes longer when the tacoma's do it easily can't wait thank you onces again
I had a 72 long bed Chevrolet 3 on the tree 6 cylinder it would get stuck on wet grass it was embarrassing, then I Lincoln Locked the rear diff and threw on a set of mud grips the DIFFerence was night and day.

They really should consider not hunting aninals since so many are getting hit by speeding vehicles. Hillbillies gotta stop destroying natures natural habitat.
Why? My G80 is still going strong after 25 years and 250,000 miles. I use it to get me through old logging roads and I wouldn't give it up for anything Dodge or Ford offers.
@@SD-pi9co the main reason why I don’t like them is because when it does engage, it shock loads everything. I replaced mine after 280k, teeth were stripped out in multiple locations. Yes I have a lot of miles on mine. However, seeing as how teeth were stripped and broken off. That means it was going around in my diff and bearings etc. I replaced it with the factory aam trac rite. I am a diesel application so my axle is the 11.5 aam. I believe that to be a much better design as it operates much smoother and nothing to shock load. The idea for the g80 is great. I just feel like the design could have been done better so it’s less likely to break those little tiny teeth on something with a large rotating mass.
@@SD-pi9co oh I understand completely! Mine wasn’t abused which is probably why I got so many miles out of it. I see them fail quite often. And again , it’s not so much they just come flying apart. The little teeth strip out and then it just gets worse and worse from there. To each their own and they all have an application for use. And again it’s just my opinion, and my opinion was to go another route for my application. If they work great for you, then I say use them! 👍
It's an automatic/mechanical locker, two wheels lock together therefore it's a locker. Rest of the time it's open diff, limited slip is the only one is doesn't do lol
My 02 Trailblazer has this G80 differential. It's awesome. Thanks for the video.
Glad you like it!

Wish it was just standard instead of an option. Love it on my 04 Colorado. Just bought an 08 Sierra and it sucks in snow and mud by comparison.
18:13 It’s pretty cool that they managed to get Vince Vaughn to extol the virtues of the G80 in this video.
Great Value Vince Vaughn🤣😭💀
Is an automatic differential lock? Because was activated during the car movement.

I’m not familiar with all the specs but what’s the benefit of a 3.73:1 gear ratio?

Z71 come with a g80. Look for it on in your glove box
@@coyreeves9156 nope g80 has nothing to do with the z71 option code
Don't nope me. I said look in your glove box for a number that says g80 on your build code sticker. I didn't mention z71
@@coyreeves9156 you said z71 come with a g80. Literally says exactly that above🙄
@@coyreeves9156 You have to disengage your traction control for the G80 to work.

So glad I got rid of my g80 bomb. Replaced it with the trac rite.

@@Meanttobeez I've only ever heard of them failing when abused. Nothing lasts forever, if you got 280k out of yours I'd say it did its job.

Got 250k on my 95 burban. Locker still works great
Great as long as you got a good one or you got one biult on a friday then its a grenade 80
This video was recorded with a potato lol
How do potatoes record?
Limited slip like a real one in my 94 pathfinder is just as good as a g80 it don't cut off after 20mph
Negative! The G80 far superior to a simple limited slip.
Junk
Great video! But as we should all know, the G80 is a limited slip not a true locker. A true locker stays locked all the time when engaged.
