Lord Jesus is LORD of all for all time. The one and only, exclusively, permanently, and truthfully for me and all the world forever. All other gods or idols or religions or cultural ideologies but Christ and Christianity are false. Be blessed! He is the One Way, One Truth, One Life ✝️❤️ John 3:16
these breakdowns are always so detailed, and the feedback you give is super dense with info. I feel like I learn a lot every time, and I'm not even animation-adjacent, so great job as usual :)
I just found you today but I've been binging your channel and I absolutely ADORE your fan critique videos. You've done this better than anyone I've ever seen and the way you explain things helps not only the person you're critiquing but also the viewer to fix their own mistakes. Big fan and cant wait for more videos of this fashion!
I love these videos. It's always so interesting for me as well to check out the reviewed portfolios and see how they've changed since the review. First one in this video still hasn't updated a thing since your video upload but the second one definitely took on a lot of your advice and has updated it. Great to see. Your critiques are really detailed and constructive. Awesome series!
Would it be a good idea to include a little timeline for how my character changes throughout the story? Because most of my characters have some development but I don’t know how to show that or organize that. Just to make it less confusing for their different looks
It's good if you orient it to demonstrate how you're able to take a basic design and evolve it. IE: take a basic kid design and put a few of the ideas/aesthetics/motifs you associated with that design and in the next design how you've taken those ideas further. If it's just throwing some eyeliner and a hoodie it might not be the best concept - the next design should be transformative and feel like an evolution that tells its own story. Think square - > cube - > rubik's cube, not triangle - > square - > rectangle. If you're using it for clarification - it's probably not a great idea as the pieces should be visually clear on their own. Pick your most impressive/favourite design and stick with it.
Honestly, as great as the artwork is, the first monkey character from the first portfolio reads as evil to me, so if I was reviewing this and it was clear that he's the protagonist, I would think the artist doesn't have the best handle on character or shape language. There are lot of elements to the character that read as wicked, even if they wouldn't necessarily individually; together they create the wrong impression for me. Like the snaggly sharp yellowed teeth, the expressions that seem more mean and scheming than mischievous, dark color palette, yellow jaundiced eyes, 'creepy' body shape etc.... The dark headband and armband, as well as other parts of the costume give me a more 'bad mercenary' or even terrorist vibe. The middle top one in the poses is the only one that gives me the impression of 'silly'.
i’m working on a “portfolio” rn and if u can ima need to u roast it 😈😈 (respectfully, because your advice is very clear and helpful and i look up to you as an aspiring character designer)
I was wondering if you self teach yourself but you don’t have specific job experience (only as a comic con exhibitor) is it still possible to find work? Also, are applicants discriminated based on age? I don’t know the average age an animator, character designer, or illustrator in terms of entry level
your videos are helping me so much, i'm learning way more with you than in college 🥲 also love your spiderman holding the micro hshdhdh thanks for making this videos!!
Woww, I love these portfolio reviews sm🫠 I'm in early stages of putting together my own portfolio (I had to basically start from scratch because most of my art from the past couple years have been fan art🤠), and the review videos and portfolio tips video you made have been SO helpful in getting me started and giving me an idea of what I want.🤌✨ So thank you very very much, Jackie.🫡💗

Awesome feedback. I feel you take into account where each artist is skill wise, and find the best way to help them.

Is their age changing? Or just outfits based on their arcs

The way I'm taking better notes than I did in college
For character line-ups, would you recommend to also convey emotions in their face, or focus on their body language?
You are one of my biggest inspiration for art
Is the writer's strike in Hollywood making you lose your job (I'm just curious because I heard artist losing their jobs because of the stike)
