    Fun bit of trivia: Dana Patrick, the actress playing the Beauty in this video, received multiple offers for record deals after the video aired. Unfortunately, she had to turn the offers down because she did not sing a single note. The female vocals in the song were actually sung by Lorraine Crosby, but Patrick lipsank them so convincingly that even some music industry insiders just assumed that she had sung them.

    Meatloaf and writer Jim Steinman [who died last year] were musical legends…and their songs are almost impossible to confuse their work with others. They tend to be complex songs/stories…so don’t be surprised if you find some confusing…due to being a non-native English speaker and also different generation.
    Their works are amazing.

    This song came out for the Dracula movie. The one with Keanu Reeves, Gary Oldman, and Anthony Hopkins. The women were the same women that played Dracula's concubines. Monica Bellucci was one of them. That was 1992. She also played Persephone in the Marix Movies. So it's a bit of Dracula, as referenced in the beginning quote, a little bit of beauty and the beast, and a bit of the magic that was Meat Loaf's voice. Great song.

    Meatloaf was his stage name. He was born Michael Lee Aday in Dallas, Texas in 1947. The scene with the other women in the bed was taken from Francis Ford Coppola's movie "Dracula" with Gary Oldman. He had a small part in the 1975 movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and released a album in 1977 title "Bat Out of Hell" which sold millions of copies worldwide.

      The 3 women in the bed are originally from the book Bram Stoker's Dracula -- the three ghost/siren women attempting to drink/steal Johnathon's blood. Francis Ford Coppula's Dracula is one of the best/most accurate interpretations of the book.
      Interestingly, the MOST accurate interpretation of Bram Stoker's Dracula is the comedy: "Dracula, Dead and Loving it," by Mel Brooks with Leslie Nelson. They included many parts of the book never put on film, like Renfield's eating of the "tiny souls" in his cell.

Hence the montage of the brides around the bed .. he would do anything for love, He would not lie to her .............. oh this was back when music videos were pretty much mini movies. Cheers.

I embarrassingly introduced myself while he was at the elevator and I rode up with him. I said I don’t wanna bother you because I know it gets old when people constantly talk to somebody when they just want some privacy. He said no not at all. The confusion, he said, comes from the way those lyrics are arranged. Written by Meat Loaf’s longtime songwriter Jim Steinman, the song tells the story of a man professing his love for a woman and assuring her he’d “run right into hell and back” for love, among other things. During the course of the song, he also makes several promises. For instance, the man says:
    But I’ll never stop dreaming of you every night of my life, no way
    And I would do anything for love
    Oh I would do anything for love
    Oh I would do anything for love
    But I won’t do that, no I won’t do that
    “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That]
    The thing he won’t do, Meat Loaf said, is spelled out in the line before the chorus kicks in. In the lyrics above, for example, he’s saying he would do anything for love, but he won’t ever “stop dreaming of you every night of [his] life.”
    “It’s the line before every chorus,” Meat Loaf explained to the “Storytellers” audience, albeit with the help of a blackboard.
    In fact, four such promises are made during the course of the song, each time before a chorus kicks in. In addition to saying he’ll “never stop dreaming of you,” the singer also says he’ll “never forget the way you feel right now,” “never forgive myself if we don’t go all the way,” and “never do it better than I do it with you.”
    And those, according to Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman, are the things he won’t do.

    • @langdalepaul
      @langdalepaul 2 года назад

      Thank you for this explanation. The problem with the lyric, and why it’s misunderstood, is that “I won’t do that” is separated from what he won’t do by three professions of what he would do for love (anything), which tends to make you forget the first part, and assume that it was referring to something *that he wouldn’t do for love*, by counterpoint, when in fact it was, in each case, referring to what was said three sentences previously.

      @@jaredalbrecht6154 Loraine Crosby, was simply fantastic…her voice perfectly complimented Meat Loaf’s…very similar vocal qualities and techniques.

    Hi, When this song first came out people use ask him. "What won't he do for love?"

  • @darrenjones568
    @darrenjones568 Год назад

    The Story behind I'd do anything for love was kind of a Beauty and the Beast Meat's character said he would do anything for Live cause he believed that Love would be the only thing that would save him and when the song says I'd do anything for love but I won't do that it means that he wod do anything for live but he won't leave her he won't Cheat on her or anything like that he wants to live her forever 😁👍

    Hello,Irina. Just another small detail about the music video. The reason it's so detailed & looks like a movie is that non other than Micheal Bay directed it. Hope you enjoy that fact.

    Those three girls in the bedroom scene were in Bram Stoker's Dracula. They reenacted the bedroom scene that was originally with Keanu Reeves.

    This song came out around the yime of Francis Ford Coppala’s Dracula. You see some of the elements of the three brides in the bed scene and the monster not wanting to condemn her to his existence; but her responding love humanizes him and she joins him willingly. That piano at the beginning gives off some John Carpenter Halloween horror vibes. Meatloaf ALWAYS delivered as an actor and his ego wasn’t too large to not let someone ekse take the more heroic role when it suited the story, such as in that more Indiana Jones like video, “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now”.

    This storyline also correlates with "The Phantom of the Opera". He actually recorded several different versions of this song, including a nearly twelve minute version. Additionally he was an accomplished actor.😊✌

      I only picked up beauty and the beast and Dracula (his brides). The original phantom of the opera and beauty and the beast were both French tales though.

    The part with the women coming out of the bed was copying a scene from "Bram Stoker's Dracula". The movie was a big hit about the same time this video was being made.
