    I vote for ChiaoGoo needles & cables, but you could buy a particular size, plus cable and test run. Even if you buy a set later, an extra pair of commonly used needles never goes astray. You could also trial both metal and bamboo. ChiaoGoo bamboo are incredibly good quality and I highly recommend.

      I’m usually a fan of metal needles, but I’ll make sure to try them both before committing! It’s a good idea to test them out first ☺️

    Another great video Samantha! Did you and Kevin get engaged recently? Getting interchangeable needles are great, however, there are instances where they can undo And you lose your stitches. My preferred knitting method is fixed circulars, and I only knit with Chiaogoo. It can be expensive building up a collection of fixed circulars, but if you keep your eyes open for sales, that’s the time to pounce. Look after your wrists. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis three years ago in my hands, fingers and wrist and it has really impacted my ability to knit. It does Really mess with your head as we underestimate what a therapeutic and relaxing hobby knitting is until it is taken away 😊

      We did! It’s going to be a wedding-packed year which is exciting/stressful 😅 I really didn’t realize how important it was to give my hands something to do until I couldn’t knit. I was so antsy and on edge and it was honestly surprising

    I bought the chiaogoos for the kink free red steel core cables BUT I just got some Knitpro Mindful needles as an Amazon bargain which have similar steel cores AND the cables swivel!! Love them and they're half the price of the Chiaogoos!

    • @TheStrikkechick
      @TheStrikkechick  Год назад +1

      Aww this makes me miss the convenience of Amazon. Definitely seems like the steel core is the way to go but I’ll have to see what’s available at Norwegian retailers - fingers crossed there’s a good selection!

    Hi!
    The problem with that twisting yarn is that it is over twisted! I found one way to untwist it during knitting which works for me :
    Lift the whole knitting in the air by holding it only with that yarn, then give it a slight turn and let it unwind itself. But stop it before it over wind the other way!
    I hope you understand, it would be so much easier to show in real life, than with words only. Plus English is a foreign language for me! I am a French and German native from Switzerland.
    I follow you from the start and love every video. You are spreading joy… I love your creations. I love the information about Norway and the footage of the nature. The climate is so different from my place. So it is a bit like traveling with a good friend while sitting knittingly on my sofa !!
    Love from 🇨🇭

    • @TheStrikkechick
      @TheStrikkechick  Год назад

      That makes sense! For some reason I thought the only way to fix it was cutting the yarn and reattaching (I thought all the twisting happened during cast-on) but the problem persisted! I’ll give this a try.
      I’m so happy that you enjoy watching my videos and seeing the snippets of Norway. I have a Senja travel knitting vlog I’ve been meaning to put together soon so this gives me a bit of a kick to do that ☺️

    Unfortunately snaps can happen with better needles as well. Chiaogoo have a wire core in the cables, what makes them more durable. But there are some new needles from Knit Pro, called "Mindful". They do have a wired cord as well but also swivel in the joins, which Hiya Hiyas do as well, but these are acrylic cords only. Lykke cords aren't different from knit pros, so you can replace the cords with the "mindful" ones, which in my oppinion makes a perfect combination ;)

      Thanks for the feedback! I definitely want to go for durability, so I think I'll put the Chiagoos on my shopping list :)

    Hi, your Lillehammer OL sweater is fantastic!😍 Look at your "mistakes" as your take on the pattern. It will tell it's own story with time. Besides no one will notice unless they study it closely since the pattern is so busy. A recommandation for your injury: you should get hold of Carson Demers book
    Knitting Comfortably: The Ergonomics of Handknitting. It is a great book for knitters especially someone who gives it so much time like you. It is a bit costly to get it to Norway (I had to pay almost the same as the book) but you have the possibility to get it sent to your mum❣

    Magnum Opus - that's what I called my Agnete cardigan because I had never done anything like that and gave myself 6 months. It was such a fun challenge I completed mine in a little over a month. As far as needles, I love Chiaogoo(metal) and Seeknit(bamboo). Although Seeknit are bamboos, they are so incredibly smooth and the tips are perfect. I have both metal and bamboo in Chiaogoo, but I think Seeknit bamboo tips are better are they are not as uncomfortably sharp like the Chiaogoo bamboos. I use a lot of coned(oiled) yarn and bamboos are great to add a bit of grip to slippery yarn.
    Have you considered an Amish swift? Compared to an umbrella swift, they take up less space when stored. If damaged, you can easily buy replacement parts rather than replace the entire swift.

      The agnete cardigan is a gorgeous pattern! Kudos for finishing it in a month. An Amish swift sounds interesting - I'll definitely look it up though I'm not sure if it'll be available in Norway sadly

    Hi Samantha from Sydney Australia. Thank you for an enjoyable podcast. I’m a Chia Goo fixed circular needle fan as well. They will last forever. At the moment I’m knitting a sweater for myself using Nutiden. My own design. I’m visiting Norway for the first time later this year and spending a week in Tromso so I’m starting to knit up some clothes to wear. I will probably underestimate how cold it will be and not bring enough. Our winters are fairly mild. Your finished sweater is beautiful.

    • @TheStrikkechick
      @TheStrikkechick  Год назад

      Nutiden looks like such lovely yarn! I can’t wait to see what your finished sweater looks like ☺️ The biggest downside of our winters (in my opinion) isn’t the cold but the ice! We don’t salt the roads or sidewalks up here so everything is coated in a healthy layer of ice and it’s hard to walk around

    O.M.G. Love your Lillehammer colorwork sweater! It's breathtaking! And, please please please buy yourself a set of Chiaogoo needles! You deserve them so much and they will make your knitting more enjoyable in every way. (I also had a cheap needle cable break off the needle and it was the push I needed to invest in the better set... and I kept the cable so I could use it to hold stitches when I need to keep them on something) It's like investing in any tool that you will use over many years. Especially because you're a pro now! 😊

      I’d love to get more into cotton! I’m working on a crochet tote bag in Drops Paris but it just doesn’t feel like something I’d want to have against my skin so definitely on the hunt for softer versions. And bamboo/linen looks so glossy and beautiful too!

    If you want some really good advice on needles, I think Norman from the nimble needles has really great reviews about interchangable sets of all big brands. I´m not fan of chiagoos, I think there is too much hype around them. I prefer knit pro and the mindful set, which has the widest range of needles.

      Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check out the nimble needles’ reviews. I’ve always thought interchangeables were a bit out of my price range and haven’t looked at them seriously until now, so I’m excited to know what’s out there ☺️
