Incredible production and probably the highest level of AoE seen yet! Congratulations on another amazing tournament Memb - Total and brutal domination.
Tbf Viper wasnt on his best in the final. Reminded me of his matches vs Yo 2-3 years ago. He played way too open, didnt react at all and made many unforced errors.
Just need Memb to carry this timing and momentum into another tournament
Memb's tournaments are usually the ones where we really expierience new strategies, playstyles and highest level of aoe2. Settings and maps are always well thought, players are usually at their maximum and play their best.
To be honest, when I saw the Yo vs Hera game, I knew Hera could beat Viper. I didn't think it would be 5-0 but Hera proved that his build order with 2 on wood is superior. That's going to be the meta from now on for Arabia and everyone will start doing it. Viper might not have been playing his best but he wasn't playing terrible. And he got beaten 5-0 so the win is so convincing that I don't think anyone can argue that Hera isn't no.1 now. Viper will adapt and come back, I've no doubt. Most of us wanted him to win but we have to face facts.
Noob question here: With "only on Arabia" You mean maps where you need to go for military in feudal because the map is open, right?

Viper and Hera are like Federer and Nadal in Tennis
Viper was in pretty good form and like he said himself, he was playing well. A lot of Viper's mistakes were forced from Hera's play. Let's give credit to Hera here; he's the current #1 and has won 3 of the last 4 S-tier tournaments including NAC and now KOTD (which I consider two of the four Grand Slams of AOE). That fight he took as Malian monks/camels vs Hera's knights wasn't just a "blatant" error. Viper's camels were there but Hera started converting them and the moment Viper pulled the camels away for a split second, Hera ungarrisoned and pounced on the monks. It was just a good Hera play.
Masters of Arena is the only tournament that matters, clowns being the strongest of aoe2 players.
Viper played economy strat and then never defended it WITH WALLS! Super complacent. All through the cast Memb was shouting "but no walls!?" " Where are the walls??" Viper was punished harshly for this.
Yeah. He used to get away with it cause of his incredible reflexes and quick walls, but he's not a young buck anymore 😔
@@angrysammo Not only that, the level of aggressive play is way better nowadays. Game 4 was a prime example for how dangerous 4-5 can be scouts nowadays in the hands of pros, especially Hera's.
Before Lierey und Hera, there simply was no one consistently playing his level, so he got away with it. Nowadays he‘s No.3. To be honest, he used to make fun out of others and I don‘t mind See him lose 0:5.

Wow, I would say I wouldn’t normally enjoy a series that was that one sided, however, it was very well deserved I don’t think I’ve seen someone play that well. Basically perfect games. Fantastic tournament, thanks Memb.
2023 Hera is on a level of his own. Nobody can touch him!
Like TheViper, he often takes the relics (he didn't when playing the Huns because he was investing everything in offense).
Unlike many, he makes sure he has line of sight by building outposts.
He's been thriving, questioning the meta constantly, having a critical mind and experimenting outside the box: he realized pikemen are not a good early castle counter to knights (made a video about it), he's been putting only 2 villagers on wood in dark age in this grand finals, he pioneered delaying loom as much as possible...
He's clicking up in record times.
Unlike many players, I haven't seen him fail his walls (being open, or too late).
His APM is always on top.
To rival him, TheViper or Liereyy would need to improve a little bit in every aspect of the game (except APM for Liereyy).
Mr. Yo fought him very valiantly despite having much lower APM, so if he improved in this regard, I can see Yo becoming the other force of 2023 or 2024.
I don't see any other player coming close to Hera.
Probably the most convincing grand final in AOE 2 I have ever seen with this kind of a result. Incredible.
Absolute brutal domination by the victor and for the player losing it just wasn't his day. Amazing gameplay & amazing casting.

I could be wrong, but I think it's bad for a channel to do this. If Memb were to add 2 more hours, then YT would see that viewers skip like 40% of the video and that's bad for the algorithm.
Yep, posting longer videos to YT is already risky enough given that people skip around (same reason Viper has most of his content edited down), but then adding black screen or something that is sure to be skipped is just a recipe for tanking in the algorithm. Let's just be glad we get all the great games.
1:10:30 and yet he didn't notice. A few weeks ago Hera had a tip video in which he promoted getting town watch in castle. Viper really should start doing that. and more outposts.
Hera's play was very good here, but tbh, Viper was not in form imo. A lot of things that he normally takes care of. I wonder if sometimes his interest in non-standard play like Rage Forest and willingness to play more average players in ranked leads to underestimating Hera. A lot of those beautiful comebacks with the side of the map, etc., are only possible if you're not against an extremely competent player. Daut put it really well at one point: he needs just one minute, just one minute without pressure, and he could get on his feet. But you don't get that vs Hera these days.
Viper wasnt on his best but also his gameplay relies a lot on exploiting enemy mistakes. Hera now knows he needs pure meta with excellent execution to beat Viper, no fancy stuff just scout play into knights.
@@daarom3472 very good point. Hera is less adaptable than Viper, but better at creating situations where you don't need to adapt.

Hera did adapt, though. He never walls like this in ladder games. He constantly got behind in economy to wall and make military, which isn't his style. Viper looked like he had a lead in every game. Hera won through map control, being aggressive, and by winning the important fights at the right time. I know it doesn't fit people's narrative, but Viper looked like the one who played the defensive boomer style and not adapting to Hera's aggression.
@@mbvglider- How can you say Viper's style was defensive when his main mistake in the finals was not walling?? Viper played his typical greedy / high risk high reward style and he paid the price for it.

Vyper has alwaya been good enough to win without walls. Not anymore. Hes gotta wall up and defend his eco better. This was so easy for hera
he still can somehow against most players. Hera is not like the other players 5 s tier finals in a row are you starting to see why hes not the best anymore? i dont think it would save him the only ones hes gettin smacked by is larry and now hera . but its still very close but with hera just a step ahead
@SmackU247 yea 100% agree mate. And you're right the margins are so fine, but heras defence was on point and felt viper was a bit naive imo. Against most players yes he's fine but Hera is quicker than him so he will have to adapt his playstyle to play against hera in the future

@@lawbringer2552 he even said before that some ppl was to fast like that apm. but he did it and i think the apm did it for him. but skills first lets see. but he also dominate in multi maps i dont see how viper can beat him over long term and hes gettin old aswell.

Thanks for the great tournament Memb! Do have a suggestion for next time (basically copying Hera's): make the map generation more random so we also get more closed maps sometimes. Most matches since quarters were absolute domination from one side and this was partially caused by almost all maps being extremely open.
arabia it suposed to be like this, those closed maps are more hideout or arena to me but is something to consider for sure.
@@MembTV_ yea agree it needs to be somewhat open to provide more back and forth action, but on the other hand it penalizes more macro-oriented players compared to micro. More randomness will force those micro-oriented players to adapt more based on map generation. That might make the latter stages a bit more even as well, because basically from quarter finals every match was extremely 1-sided (losing sides only took 5 out of 37 games in the last 8 matches). But perhaps good to consult Hera again about his reasoning and check with other top players, they know best!
Amazing series. I still think that Yo as Cumans vs MBL was game of the tournament, but this was undoubtedly the best series. ggwp

Great series although Viper's play was off. He lost 4 out of 5 games due to the same mistake: major resource imbalance in Castle age floating 2k+ gold. He was ahead in early Castle age in all those games.
I really like how the relics number in the last game includes the final score. :DD ggs
Statistics for Dravidians in every tournament is terrible. I think they've got the best loss rate yet everyone keeps picking them as if they expect them to ever win a game. When Dravidians win its not because of Dravidians but in spite of them.

I enjoyed a lot, Hera played a great game!
Not a spoiler, but I said this in Viper's forum some time ago that Hera is the current no.1. Viper for the first time in his career is no longer the favourite going into the big tournies.
I think it's both because Hera stepped up his game but also because Viper has lost some of his edge. He plays more for the masterpieces on stream and doesn't have this determined grind mentality anymore it seems.
I'd still fancy prime Viper over current Hera but it's getting close.
First time? He is way off since a year or two. Nearly lost to ACCM because of greedy gameplay and decision making is weird as well. I hope he finds back to his past shape.

Couldn’t of happens to a more humble and great guy. I’m not Muslim but loves seeing him give his god credit for the win just shows the type of man Hera is. Heras been my favorite player for the last couple of years. Congrats Hera awesome job all the hard work paid off.

The viper and mr yo should start training together...gl team is not at am level. Only co-op with mr yo can make theviper improve even more. As Daut put it in training he demolished them...but with hera he was demolished. Another level!

Agreed, it's impossible to not notice especially on a smaller laptop screen. And even more so when you're skipped the time between matches. I am writing up a feature request to RUclips to allow a "spoiler prevention" option for sport/gaming content so that you can disable the duration/progress from appearing. I think it would get a lot of support from both communities

I really wish this wasn't posted with this "premiere" feature. Impossible not to have the result spoiled if you're not watching it live. Was trying to immediately scroll to the beginning of the video without watching or listening first, then it just bugs out and jumps to the "live" time and blasts the score 2 hours into the set all over the screen.
Had really been looking forward to enjoying this finale today, but now it's pretty much ruined. Live chat is also littered with spoilers. Sorry to be a downer, I'm just really disappointed. Please post recorded tournament sets as normal videos in the future.
Damn, what a boring finale. Hera played out of his mind and Viper sadly could not continue his perfomance against matrix. I hope he finds his mojo again soon. Atleast both made some good money on this one so there are actually only winners.

He just got second place in one of the biggest tourneys of the year. He has won S tier tourneys since then. Not sure what you mean, I think Hera is just in the zone right now keeping the same momentum from NAC
The number 1 player brought his A game to all 5 of those games. Viper played well enough to beat any other player. Credit goes to the victor
Nobody can be on top forever. The viper has been dominant for so many years. It's hard for anyone to live up to winning consistently indefinitely.
Gaming (like any competitive sport really) is a young man's game. reflexes and a quick mind slowly go with age. Daut is a good example of that recently - og legendary player, hall of famer, but he's dropping off in recent years after playing top level since early 2000's. Daut is 37, viper is only 5 years younger than him, so it's inevitable Viper will drop off a little. Hera is 23 and still has many years of prime ahead of him. The only real competition for top spot I see hera having in the medium to far future is liereyy, if he chooses to put in the work like hera does.
And to be fair, with vipers wrist issue, it's lucky that he's still playing the game at all, let alone to still be widely considered top 3.
These days I'm just greatful he's still doing well in tournaments and thankful that he's still around to watch. Im certainly not going to take him for granted while he's still competitive and hope he remains so for a few years yet.

Viper won 4-1 vs Hera on T90's Titan league a couple of months ago and came second on this one. What are you talking about? Also I cant even count the number of times people have said Viper has lost it and then he comes and wipes next S-tier tournament.
There is no question that Hera is a awesome and super skillfull player but so is Viper.
Let's not forget that it was Fatslob who bested TheViper first.
