Still good looking inside and out after almost a decade ... would never buy something this mechanically complicated, even tough I'm a Volvo wagon fan and own two Volvos (2017 and 2015.5 both with 2.0T DriveE) without any problem.
Hybrid, and PHEV technology is mature, been around for going on 20 years. What else would the Prius have such a loyal following? (my S 60 recharge shares the garage with a 1998V70, bought new.)
As the owner of a 2022 XC90 Recharge Extended Range, my power train is the same as your 2024 and my 16,000 miles has been trouble free and yielded an overall fuel economy of 47 mpg. Considering the performance I get when needed and the "range" anxiety I avoid, this is the ideal car for me. As to your comment about the firm ride, I have the air suspension and perhaps that is what you recall in your earlier review.
I bought one less than 2 weeks ago and I cant find the front anti collision option is there anything that activates it or its standard and is activated when needed. I went close to another car and nothing happened. I had an Audi q3 2020 before and its presense option was very useful. Security was the reason I bought it and now I am a bit worried.
The last I heard from the North American Volvo Team is that the XC90 is not going away....it might be getting a refresh but they intend to have it live side by side with the EX90 so that they have a full electrified three row offering to customers.....B5,B6 (hybrid) PHEV , and the full EV....
To my understanding, they are to be class vehicle. I love the design in both exterior and interior. However I am not crazy about Google system. Great video Andrea!!
I think the reason I see so few of these where I live in Colorado is once compared with the Cayenne, Land Rover, BMW, & Lexus….this Volvo is quickly forgotten.
Our friends had an XC90…….turbo charged..supercharged…..hybrid….what could go wrong ? It was in the shop, more than in their driveway. It took months to sort out.
This one no longer has supercharger. I think Volvo get that it was too complicated in the first place and then increase the electric power and storage. According to car care nut, this one is not bad mechanically.
I test drive compare the xC60 recharge and Lexus RX500h. The XC60 wins in terms of power, sturdy chassis, handling. Interior is also very good for the XC60 as well but smaller than the Lexus. I am expecting the same comparing the XC90 recharge and the Lexus TX. The things in doubt is the reliability, after sales services, resale value. But Volvo has bigger discount than Lexus. I talked about this from the Aus market.
The top of the range come with the Bowers and Wilkins audio system which is what is in the car your are testing. The HK systems is the mid range system. The seats in Volvo are designed to reduce fatigue. This is very noticeable on long drives. It’s said that Volvo produces the best seats in the system.
I think they will be missing the boat if they don’t continue to offer a PHEV. I think many manufacturers are finding the transition to full EVS will take longer than expected especially if the charging infrastructure isn’t in place.
Nice review thanks. I will receive the xc90 plus in late summer 2024 and I really look forward for it. What I do not understand is the issue with the missing armrests in the 2nd row. In my test car there was a 3rd seat in the middle, which you can just pull down and there is the armrest, including cup holders. It can also be used as a child’s seat with a raised base. Strange in your car. Might it be possible that in your country the car comes only as a 6 seat version for legal reasons…? I live in Germany and the xc90 comes as a 7 seater. Take care and keep going! 😊👍
Really? I have a 2017 XC90 T6 R Design and the newer design features are quite apparent. The front and rear bumpers are different and the lack of exposed exhaust tips are a dead giveaway. The front grille has been reworked as well. The newer Volvo interiors are missing several features that were standard on 2016-2021 models. The center console drive mode selector, no rearview mirror directional compass, no optional carbon fiber trim, no optional nubuck suede seats, etc.
With regard to the stiff ride, did you ever check the tire pressure? Both of my Acura RDX were delivered with too much pressure... Great work as usual!
So interesting on the lexus TX with the v6. I reviewed the chrysler pacifica also with a v6 on the atkinson cycle. The 4 cylinder turbo's aren't getting quite the fuel efficiency as advertised.. so this might be a new thing !!
A near perfect design, inside and out. Lexus may have reliability, but Volvo is in a different league… design language-wise. I cannot think of any Lexus C/SUV that has aged well. I think Volvo should ‘charge’ on with this model… and just figure out their questionable reliability issues. Because if I could afford one (and not a Range Rover - despite being worse!), a ‘leased’ Volvo would be at the top of my list… this or that sensationally smart looking estate car they offer (station wagon) - the V90, with that killer B&W audio upgrade. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
Great show/channel guys with valuable content! Kudos. Can you speak to Volvo's warranty? I heard and read that for some parts there's a lifetime warranty? And how does that compare to a manufacturer offering a 100k mile warranty overall?
It is bit sad most of the manufacturers have not been developing plug-ins as equal alternatives to EVs but something they will drop from lineup when EV is ready.
I thought of all these EV's and went out and bought an F150 EcoBoost 2.7 at least i can haul my motorbikes. It has the large 140 lt gas tank i can go up to a 1000 km on a full tank of gas. And never have to worry about finding a charger that works or my app and payment options can actually activate the charger to start charging......
On the West Coast where Motormouth is filmed, a 140 litre fill would set you back almost $350. A full charge for the EX90 x2 to go 1000km, about $20, $30 in winter. You were saying?
Beyond the surface, It is a nightmare when something mechanically goes wrong and has battery issues in cold weather…i cant believe it has an timing belt and not a timing chain
I’ve owned a Volvo in my past and partial to their design language, but I don’t think I could justify the cost of this, even though I would love to have one in my driveway. I might consider it as a lease, but this an it’s peers don’t move me from a value perspective.
Minute 9:50: If you would say that in the German part of Switzerland it would mean now it’s time to F&@! 😂😂😂😂😂 (Swiss German „figgä“) can’t stop laughing…
It's the EX90. The XC90 was supposed to be replaced by the EX90 but the EX90 is EV only the XC90 lives on. There are debates on if and when the interior and car will be updated and to what extent but it lives on for awhile in this form.
To me, the interior is timeless and looks way better than the new Lexus in the video. I've never understood the constant push to "update". I guess it's from people who lease for a few years and then want something new. For those who buy and keep the car for a while, the later model year cars are almost always the best ones to get because they have the bugs worked out. Never buy a first model year car (and even the first 2-3 years can have issues). This is true for any brand!
Great review as always but for that price you need a little refreshing and if you have kids or backseat passenger's armrest! It really does not compete with Range Rover but Lincoln, BMW, Audi and even Cadillac! One thing that Volvo Alway's does is safety and if you have little ones that just might win you over!!!
The design inside and out is sooooo long in the tooth. I wish they would refresh it to remain competitive with its peers. Otherwise it's hard for me to justify, even considering the safety record. And I have a 2017 xc90.
Volvo's are great looking vehicles inside and out. The only thing I am not feeling about Volvos is the screen dash setup. I like the built-in look, but it looks like a head with two ears on each side.😂😂
wireless charger is not a big deal for me, slow charging, over heat, discharge whenever I grab the phone and expensive(I bought a table wireless charger for only $15 but automotive manufactures normally charge $300+), I would rather having additional space for storage and rather pluging directly into USB ports...
Richard, according to the J D Power 2023 Reliability Survey, Volvo (virtually tied with Subaru) is more reliable than Mercedes, Audi, Tesla, VW, even Ford! And Lincoln? Next to last in reliability, only Land Rover is worst than Lincoln. 31 brands are listed in the survey. What is your source of information?
Why they are not selling is because they are more expensive than a BMW X5 50e with a way better exterior and interior. And don`t get me started on the driving dynamics.
The ride quality of SPA-platform Volvos is definitely an issue, especially those wearing larger rims. My '21 XC60 has 20" rims and transmits every bump and imperfection, triggering an array of squeaks and rattles. It's incongruous with the price point, and defeats the composed driving experience to which the brand otherwise aspires.
Sad that 40 years ago and past!, Volvo was making one of the most reliable car that wouldn't die and almost until 10 years ago they had the best seats so not exactly sure they lost the idea of (If U Build it right!, they will come)!?
The third row is interesting, like the mazda 5. i like the look of the white interior, but the seats look really uncomfortable. offroad, this is completely useless as an suv without a spare tire. I'd rather have 17s with more rubber for a smooth ride and a spare in the trunk; funny to imagine any volvo owner actually repairing a tire on the side of the highway 😂.
Do you also ask if Land and Range Rovers are made in India? But to answer your question, the only China-produced Volvo model line that’s going on sale in the West is the new EX30 entry level EV.
15:15: "58mpg when charged." ?? First 36 miles it's infinity. Assume 15000 miles annualy, 41 a day, last 5 miles on gas. Assume then, .2 gal. to go 41 miles . . . 205 mpg. Everyone drives differently but an estimate must make some assumptions. What's wrong with my assumptions? Are "official" PHEV assumptions delibertly pessimistic so as to promote EVs?
Air suspension doesn't eat up the bumps like other premium rides, tech is out of date, engine is out of date, interior is out of date. Not worth the premium price. There are better options out there. Volvo is too lazy to update it.
It's not about being "lazy." They're coming out with a bunch of next-gen Volvos that are BEV only. So, does it make economic sense to update their current line up. They're a small company with a limited budget. But they aren't lazy.
T8 is the best version for this car, but it's the least reliable - same as T6. Shame, Volvo should've use 3.0 R6 and 4.0 V8 petrol + electric. 6:30 and apple don't? Haha you would be surprised how much that company get money from your data :)
In your mind it is. This car is very much Swedish produced by teams of people in Sweden. There's Chinese money that has helped its development, but this isn't a Chinese car.
Never owned a Volvo, but I have always appreciated their nice interiors.
Still prefer safety on the roads over anything to be honest, bought my dream XC90 half a year ago and still enjoy it after 8+ years or research:)
Still good looking inside and out after almost a decade ... would never buy something this mechanically complicated, even tough I'm a Volvo wagon fan and own two Volvos (2017 and 2015.5 both with 2.0T DriveE) without any problem.

I think this review is R-design. People say it rides worse than regular. Also huge rims for no good reason in SUV.
@@MrRaitzi The R - Design is now the "plus" design. I am not sure which trim they are reviewing but its a 2024 model I think.

I have same this one in White XC90-T8 2024- Its a very good car
Thank you for reviewing the new 2024 Volvo.
Timeless and classic design. Stunning SUV !
I love the volvo interiors. Just so simple and not complicated. I've always wanted a grey interior. So far it has alluded me!
The last I heard from the North American Volvo Team is that the XC90 is not going away....it might be getting a refresh but they intend to have it live side by side with the EX90 so that they have a full electrified three row offering to customers.....B5,B6 (hybrid) PHEV , and the full EV....
Volvo should launch a 3rd facelift of the XC90. The EX90 and XC90 can coexist.
Beautiful beautiful ride. But that cockpit and the tiny infotainment screen seems extremely outdated.
The guy reaction on armrest on 2 row its hilarious , I already turn 5 times video to watch his reaction. love it .
A very nice product! Again the seats are the issue for some as side bolsters are narrow. Like the interior as it's not black! A great review.
To my understanding, they are to be class vehicle. I love the design in both exterior and interior. However I am not crazy about Google system. Great video Andrea!!

Great video! I have wireless charging in my 2021 B5, and I never use it cause Apple CarPlay has no wireless connection. P.S. Greetings from Ukraine!
XC90 is one of the better-looking cars out there. White, umm. The blue you had a couple of years ago really worked.
I love your videos. You guys are doing a great job. I was wondering which cars you guys own or drive?

Time for questions, fika, and cars.
there keeping the XC90, they're getting rid of the XC recharge for the EX90.
so there will be a new XC90 to go alongside the EX90.
