    Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. While we await the launch of the fully electric EX90 this year, Volvo says the XC90 is not going anywhere and you should expect a new generation to show up in 2025. This may be one of the oldest new cars on the market in terms of the design, but it has also aged extremely well and still looks fresh and modern. Not very many brands can pull that off.

    Great video! Volvo is like fine wine man, I really like what they are doing. Their old T8 wasn't good, because it was trying to do too much with the turbo+supercharger and a mild hybrid. These new PHEVs are excellent! Dig the interior, they really just need to put in some hardware knob/wheel for drive modes (could go on the steering wheel, for example), it's too cumbersome this way. The 90 is too big for my needs and it's way too expensive, but the 40 and 60 are truly excellent. Too bad they don't have the XC40 PHEV, only gas or pure electric. I'd love to see a small hybrid.

  • @Cal94
    @Cal94 9 месяцев назад +7

    as a V60 T8 owner, I'd like to see volvo work on 3 things.
    1. android automotive is simply not enough, we need android auto. android automotive+whatever cellular connection is in my car, is easily overloaded by tidal's higher bitrates, vs my phone gets 5G access everywhere I go. also, who's to know if in 10 years, the cellular standards in our cars start getting phased out. I know u can bluetooth tether ur phone to augment the car's internet connection, and I haven't found that to be a fix (though I haven't tried it recently)
    2. the lack of a drive mode button is maddening, but it's compounded by a few other factors. drive mode is one of the few things you CAN'T control with voice commands. if i could tell the car to go into power mode, or pure mode, i'd be completely fine not having a drive mode selector. OR, if I could have a programmable favourites row of buttons on the infotainment screen that i can set (like for example, the electric cabin heater, my 2 or 3 favourite drive modes, and maybe 1 or 2 radio stations for my parents), i wouldn't miss physical buttons so much, and my parents might actually drive the damn thing. which, my parents are intimidated by the car (and maybe also the $ i put into it) so no one but me drives the thing.
    3. I wonder if [avoiding CVTs and the associated engine drone] is the reason volvo doesn't have a front electric motor and electric AWD. because in the V60, pure electric mode is perfectly adequate. regenerative braking is excellent under ~70km/h. you can truly drive this thing one-pedal. but the electric torque is also nothin to sneeze at in the wet/snow/ice, when driving only 2 wheels. a weak electric motor between the gas engine and the transaxle might make getting off the line a lil easier, but those sort of setups usually involve CVTs. gear shifts are simply not something you feel with electric drivetrains. and ICE-CVT drone is certainly not something you hear in a luxury car. personally, I just hope the whole market takes note of what RAM wants to do with the ramcharger, and what chevy did with the volt, and copy that shit, instead of whatever the heck BMW did with the iX.

    I think you may have been in some overheat mode after two 0-60 launches. Our 2024 XC90 Recharge feels very quick off the line in Pure. Feels more powerful than my 2020 V90CC T6 off the line when driving normal. The instant torque is real. It’s like it gives you 90% of what it has immediately, but if you keep pushing pedal down there is only a tiny bit more. Again in Pure. In Power the thing is legit fast.

    For small notes, I appreciate how much detail there is about relative competitors, but it felt like something that we can all look up on a spec sheet. Many of the remarks about the Lexus for instance were not helpful since we're not going to be doing a plus minus on specs so much as looking to understand the living with it, driving dynamics and lived with style that we can't get from a table from the manufacturers. I really appreciated the nuance between the model years and I think it was super valuable information, especially with the refresh coming next year and the much improved screens.

    The manual adjustment is due to safety design. There is nothing tempting about a Volvo, unless you're a mechanic.

    Do people think that Volvo is being curated more toward the Chinese market at the expense of the US and European market?

      Not at all! Why would they curate their cars for the Chinese market. For some reason, people think Volvo is Chinese! It's not! We never talk about Land Rover and Jaguar being owned by an Indian company called Tata Motors! Are they now curating their cars for Indian market? Not at all

    Dated exterior & interior design, manual steering wheel column, tight 2nd row seat room, dated infotainment, stiff front seats, lacking fuel economy, aged suspension and snipped top speed. Not what I’d be looking for in this class.

    Not sure what hes on about with the seats. I'm in them every day and I've never sat in a more comfortable seat. If he thinks these are stiff, he needs to sit in an XC40.

    Looks very outdated. In this price range when you compete against bmw , Lexus , Mercedes ,Audi, and you don’t put power steering wheel , and gear shifters ,keeping the same body design as almost 10 years ago .Definitely not 85 k vehicle.

    It’s always been a good looking SUV, but it’s definitely starting to show its age. It’s giving 2012 vibes on the outside!

    NOPE. I need plush, plush and a face ripper V6/v8 + electric assist for that kind of cash. The center screen is an embarrassment TBH. They have a lot of nerve sticking that thing in a 90K vehicle.
