I'd love to see 6988 and 7081 do another doubleheader on a freight move, that'd be awesome. I mean both still need their 1472s, but it'd be lovely to see the two QJs barreling through on a freight train! Nice shots too, love to see it!!
I don’t know why, but I really think that it needs a long bell 3 chime, like in Illinois Central steamboat or Southern Railway flat-top. Either way, it’s a great looking locomotive. I’m glad she’s getting along well at her new home. They sure know how to take care of an engine like 6988.
Those are both great whistles, but in my opinion that Soviet-style 5-chime is an important part of the locomotive's historical identity. With the Americanized styling, they ought to keep SOME things original! Haha.
@@EeveeFans1996 only crappy management would’ve done that. She was part of the heritage collection. And even though Steve beat the crap out of her they still kept her in the heritage fleet and now she’s getting another chance. It won’t be long until the crews start work on the boiler restoration
@@EeveeFans1996 hey dummy, 3985 was not scrapped! She’s down in Illinois getting her 1472 day rebuild and they are making great progress on her! Next time do the research before you type stupid crap like that!
Iowa Interstate #6988 has a new home. RRHMA is performing the inspection. Off to Silvis Illinois for it's inspection and rebuild. Thanks RRHMA for inspecting and rebuilding the QJ #6988.
For my money that is the way a locomotive whistle should sound, not the low moan of, say, 4014. I am just old enough to remember coal-fired steam on the Illinois Central and their whistles sounded like that.
It's rated top speed is 50MPH, but a CB&Q Hudson is rated for 97, however they regularly broke 107-114 so who knows what the crews in China did to them
The speed of a steam locomotive is determined by it's gearing, which is mostly the drive wheel diameter. This loco has 59" drive wheels, compared to passenger locos that can have around 80" wheels. You are limited by the speed of the drive pushrods, which can fail if over speeded for very long. Those rods are massive in the big locos.
Lol that’s me at 13:25. If I had known you were there I would’ve moved. Sorry about that XD

The 2008 flood relief fundraiser trains were the peak of IAIS steam hands down!
The Railroading Heritage of Midwest America seems to be helping out with the overhaul. So hopefully we see it again in a few years or so!
That’s an impressive whistle.
GTW 6 Chime from GTW 5629, it's a very nice whistle.
Wow, the engineer sure seems "whistle happy".
Two longs, a short and a long have taken on a much different sound.
That was the last time we’re gonna hear that whistle for quite a while so it’s going out in style! But 6988 will be back!

Wow! What a cool train! Nicely done video.
You're goddamn right that's a cool fuckin train
Great video! It was nice to meet you.
Gorgeous!
I love that B&O 6 chime
If Union Pacific kept 3985 in good shape she could’ve done this journey herself to hauling the Centennial and 5511.
If Union Pacific didn't kept 3985 in a good shape then she would be scrapped.

Very professionnel video. You did a fantastic job.
Nice shot passing the Geneseo station!
I cannot believe it. The FRA actually gave an extension
Mind: Blown
They probably gave an extension probably it was in good enough condition
Nicely done bud!!
Nice video!
I love the fact that we have 2 Chinese steam locomotives
Just one critique on their end, should be flying 🇺🇸🇺🇸 only imho. That’s a beautiful beast! Lovin’ all of that steam!
They are flying the American flag. They are also flying the Ukrainian flag to show support for Ukraine!

the fact that 6988 is a Japanese locomotive makes it way better
It's Chinese locomotive, not Japanese
@@Jazzmaster-pb2yt oh yeah lol, thanks for telling me
I was on the train that day, what a fun time.
Awesome video 👍😎🇺🇸🚂🇺🇦
Nice touch flying the US & Ukrainian flags on the locomotive.

I definitely agree, however there are a few steamboat three chime whistles that I do like, such as the one you mentioned on the IC steamers.
@@cedarvalleyrail8419what about the Southern Railway’s Ps-4 whistles and V&SW licensed steamboat whistles?
Is she gonna come back to the Iowa interstate after the overhaul question mark
Yes. IAIS still owns it.
Where is 9:05?
The towns name is Moscow, and there's a siding there called North Star, MP 210
The way the engine looks she’s Like an American version of a BR 9F
That’s awesome they put the Ukraine flag there. Awesome video!
Henry spent a couple months running relief trains in and out of Ukraine, so it was fitting since it's his engine
Just a question, how fast can this loco go?

@@loboheeler steam locomotives dont have gearing, only driver diameter and piston stroke
could i use some of these shots in a video i’m making about chinese-american steam?
As long as there's some sort of credit, have at it boss
@@cedarvalleyrail8419 there will be credits at the end of the video and at the beginning of the clips themselves, so you’ll be covered there
Whats going to happen to 7081?
She’s in storage at the moment
2-10-2. Kind of a different wheel setup.
not really, it was extremely common
It’s basically like taking the best of a 2-8-2 and the best of a 2-10-0 and mashing it all into one engine.
I love how she not only has the American flag, but also the Ukrainian flag.
I like that too

It's actually a cool nod to the locomotive's history, too. The Soviet FD class 2-10-2s the QJs are based on were built in Ukraine.
In my idea it must put the American flag on there it's already on there so they must add the japanese flag on the rear I think
I don't think even one more railfan could of fit at Moscow. there were more people then air.
This video is published on my 16th b’day!
OMG 🥹 When I saw the flag of Ukraine, I cried 🇺🇦🇺🇸
What’s up with the flag
They are flying both the US flag and they are flying the Ukrainian flag to show support for Ukraine
6988 came from China 🇨🇳🇨🇳
LOSE THE FLAGS PLEASE ! Made in China .
Lose the Ukranian flag on the engine ....
Why? they flying the Ukrainian flag to show support for Ukraine!
Another great example of american
How lame.
In Poland we quit using such locomotives 5 yrs ago...
Least.
How lame? You have no idea what the hell you are talking about!
