Did you watch "the next step"? Its my favourite series about dancing. The first season is not the best and I did not watch the last seasons because the series is about a dance team so they are always introducing new characters, so its kinda of a "never ending series". But the series are sooo entertaining and has the best couples ever!! I think you would love it!
But they are technically a dancing studio not a school. We can even see that they have a real school life when James has to stop dancing because of his grades.
@@florentinenice9146 ooooh yes you are right. But I think it still works for this video, like in Violetta she didnt know if they were a school or only a studio
That's the whole point of kats character. Its how she copes, she doesnt really know who she is or where she wants to go in the first season and so she chooses to be the sort of rebel, party girl architype. By the third season/the movie she realises almost fully who she is i wont spoil it but please finish the show because the characters change so much
Caitlin watching this video made me wonder if you've ever seen "the next step" It's a Canadian show about a dance academy so idk the topic of this video made me think about that. If you haven't I highly recommend it.
About the dancing in Backstage and Dance Academy. I don't know if they maybe have doubles in any specific scenes, but as far as I know they are all dancers.
I actually go to a magnet school for theatre, and out of the ones on this list I’ve seen, I think I’d have to say Backstage is somewhat the most realistic. We all just kinda do our own thing and go to normal classes along with our arts classes. I think my school looks like a normal school besides a recording studio and the fact that it’s just kinda shaped weird. My only problem with Backstage is that there’s a lot more collaboration between all the performing arts academy’s at my school that we don’t really see in the show, but there is a lot more than just arts at my school so that might be why.
So what you're saying is I should watch Find Me In Paris? XD As a Tori defender, I appreciated your rating/take on her. She def deserves critique at times, but I always felt that her character made sense as written being the anchor of their wacky friend group. Also, I always appreciated how the show didn't go the expected route with it's ships. I'm glad Beck/Tori never happened, and instead Bade stayed endgame and Jori became *kinda* friends (tho in my in mind Jori is the ultimate endgame) I haven't watched Dance Academy in a hot minute but I do remember hating Tara lol. Though, I did like Kat, so was surprised by your take, but maybe would make sense if I watched it more recently. However, I did really like Sam and Abigail. And I just found the show to be mostly entertaining due to the plots that I had rarely seen done before in a show like it so glad to see you give it points for that. I also constantly wonder how the heck they run the Studio in Violetta lol but it's definitely up there with me next to Hollywood Arts. I agree Vilu was her best self in s2, and was disappointed how off the rails she went in s3 with the Roxy storyline and like you said "put León through it" lol. But I really liked them again in 3B and just find them to be really lovable when they're at their best and even find some of their lighter arguments kind of funny. But your points are valid, I just surprisingly really love Leonetta despite their shortcomings *shrug*
Also, i think people don't appreciate enough Tori's character development. We go from her going behind her friends back and kissing Cat's boyfriend to her realizing that friendship comes first and rejecting Beck even tho he wasn't with Jade at the time (who could be cruel to her at times by the way).
Putting Roxy in season 3 is genuinely one of the worst things to happen on the show. We ignore all Vilu character development. We ignore that she has learned that lies always come out. We ignore how devastated she was after discovering that her father was Jeremias. We ignore how much she was tricked by Diego in Season 2. We ignore the fact that Violetta is already quite mature. I felt as if the writers had completely forgotten who Violetta was... Yeah, I also have some unexplained love for Leonetta despite Roxy, Leon's jealousy issues, what happened with Tomas and Diego, their fights I just love them
It would be cool to see ur ver of some kind of list of shows that never got the ending and got cancelled too soon like backstage, witch, julie and the phantoms, tiny little things and so and so💕
I love that you included dance academy on the list, I'm so happy your watching it!! I don't love the series, but it's ok. There's also the dance academy movie that comes after the series. I'd love to see you do a video on dance academy when you've finished!!
Erm disagree completely. Dance academy is a 9/10 at least, it explores so many important topics like eating disorders, coping with death, parents who wont let you follow your dreams, pushing yourself too far ect. Plus even though tara is the narrator and shes sort of the typical main character, the other characters get to stand out and have their own characterisations, and usually they have their own episode that focuses on them and they voiceover their episodes.
See I don’t want things like 365 days, 50 shades of grey, through my window or after all I really want is next season or a good final movie of backstage 😩😩
im so glad someone else has seen dance academy and had some of the same thoughts i did!! i really hope you ended up finishing the show and enjoyed it :D also idk if id recommend the movie (definitely not my favorite thing ever) but it just gives more info on where they go after the academy so that was interesting to see
Well actually with the representation part in Violetta, I think the lack of queer couples is doesn't have to do with the fact that is from Argentina (because Violetta is from 2012, and gay marriage has been legal since 2010 and in terms of equal rights it's kind of the more progressive of Latinamerica). It was definetly a Disney thing.
pls do a part two when you have finished dance academy and with go! vive a tú manera i personally feel like it doesn't get enough recognition and i personally love it yes ofc i basic but the show drama and plot twist are beautiful i just enjoy it hhaha but ye i love it
Dance Academy was my favourite show for the longest time but since I've became a K-drama girl definitely my favourite performing art school show is Dream High. Is not as deep as Dance Academy but the message is so well done and all of the characters are really likeable. You should give it a try 👀
there were so many characters that didn’t get mentioned at all. the show really doesn’t feel designed to have a “main” character at all, even within the different parts. but, i feel like you could almost make a weird argument that it if it had to have a main character, it would be julie
you should definitely check out backstage season 2 because i think based off of this video you haven't seen it JAJAJA, it handles a couple of heavier topics as well (ex: the use of steroids), i think there are some really good ships and the performances are absolutely amazing !!
I grew up watching Violetta, so personally it's the best series for me. Sometimes I find myself singing their songs. I think it was one of the most successful Disney series here in Argentina. With merch everywhere. Also, Tini is arguably one of the most successful artists in Argentina. so Violetta is always remembered here. that is one of the reasons why soy luna and bia received hate in their time although soy luna also had a cultural impact.
It was the same in Europe. Violetta merch was literally everywhere and all kids & teenagers at least knew about Violetta. It even shows how many countries in Europe concerts were held. In my country, people started learning Spanish through Violetta, which made the cast very surprised. Soy Luna had definitely much less success (I think a lot of people had "it's fake Violetta", "I'm too old for this" hence less popularity). When they finished Violetta and announced a new series (or the very beginning of the series) I remember HUGE hate for Soy Luna. Violetta was a real international revolution, Soy Luna was popular and Bia was irrelevant
I don't really remember that much about backstage, but I do remember that alya was super annoying in season 2 and was writing songs about other people's lives
My dance academy diehard heart hurts so much hearing some of your thoughts on it. I think as a fandom we all agree that Tara sucks, but she’s just the conduit to telling the other character’s stories. Also Ben in the best character! You have to keep watching to see him.
When I heard Backstage I was so excited! Personally I think it is the best but I also love Victorious! Also Bianca was my favorite character and personally I think she had great character development! In the second season she actually is really nice and becomes more confident in her abilities!
Took me a minute to understand that you were talking about Argentina's show "Violetta", so nice to first saying you should be in Argentina for Nord VPN and then the show. 10/10 Argentina points
Compiled from the comments and looking at the wiki fandom, the Backstage love triangles I have found are 1. Alya, Miles, Julie 2. Alya, Miles, Austin 3. Alya, Miles, Bianca (at the beginning) 4. Miles, Julie, Matteo 5. Sasha, Carly, Vanessa (at the beginning) 6. Scarlett, Aiden, Cassandra 7. The whole combo of Jax with Kit, Bianca, Jenna, and Katie… there was a lot of jealousy over Jax lol
When I watched Dance Academy, I watched with my sister who is a professional ballerina. Based off of her comments of the dancing, I’d say it’s the actual actors/actresses. I think from an untrained eye they look good, so it’s decent, but my sister was like “it’s so funny every time they say Tara has good feet. They cut to her, and she has the worst feet for a dancer.”
Julie was the love triangle in backstage her miles and Julie and I would say backstage had 3 main characters one for the singing part one for the dance and one for production kit Ayla and Vanessa
I feel like even the people who disliked Victoria's character still liked her voice but it was just that compared to Ariana, Liz, and Leon's (but mostly Ariana and Liz's) voices, hers felt more like a normal singing voice, nothing spectacular
Sasha was 110% gay but they didn't want to deal with the controversy so they didn't technically say it. It seemed SO obvious that's what the writers were alluding to.
There was the Sasha Carly and Vanessa type thing. Wasnt a LOVE traingle but like with the friendship thing and also Jenna being obsessed with Sasha. And carly and that photographer guy??
Backstage intended for Varly, Sacha as gay or ace, and eventually a throuple between Bianca, Miles and Jax with Miles at the center. Aleah was supposed to get a scholarship and leave without an endgame.
I feel like backstage should have been higher!!! Just because there’s a lot you forgot like Vanessa and Beckett and Cassandra plus the new cast members in season 2

But they are technically a dancing studio not a school. We can even see that they have a real school life when James has to stop dancing because of his grades.
@@florentinenice9146 ooooh yes you are right. But I think it still works for this video, like in Violetta she didnt know if they were a school or only a studio
Season 6 is really good. Season 7 was meh. But Season 8 is coming out next month so I hope it's better than Season 7
The first half of season 8 is out and I loved it! You should check out the later seasons
My favorite ship from Backstage is 100% BECKETT AND VANESSA ❤️❤️❤️
YESS I loved them
That's the whole point of kats character.
XD
As a Tori defender, I appreciated your rating/take on her. She def deserves critique at times, but I always felt that her character made sense as written being the anchor of their wacky friend group. Also, I always appreciated how the show didn't go the expected route with it's ships. I'm glad Beck/Tori never happened, and instead Bade stayed endgame and Jori became *kinda* friends (tho in my in mind Jori is the ultimate endgame)
I haven't watched Dance Academy in a hot minute but I do remember hating Tara lol.
I am Jade and I am married to Tori so yes, we are endgame.
Yeah, I also have some unexplained love for Leonetta despite Roxy, Leon's jealousy issues, what happened with Tomas and Diego, their fights I just love them
Backstage is really good tho
I've only seen 3 of these, but out of the three, I'd rank them:
3. Violetta
2. Victorious
1. Backstage
Dance Academy will always be my favorite and it would be great if you made a video on it once you finish it
See I don’t want things like 365 days, 50 shades of grey, through my window or after all I really want is next season or a good final movie of backstage 😩😩
We need a Dance Academy review when you finish it! Also agree that Tara got on my nerves
PLEASE give us your thoughs on Dance Academy when you finish it. I love the show so much and would love to hear what you have to say about it.
im so glad someone else has seen dance academy and had some of the same thoughts i did!! i really hope you ended up finishing the show and enjoyed it :D also idk if id recommend the movie (definitely not my favorite thing ever) but it just gives more info on where they go after the academy so that was interesting to see
Well actually with the representation part in Violetta, I think the lack of queer couples is doesn't have to do with the fact that is from Argentina (because Violetta is from 2012, and gay marriage has been legal since 2010 and in terms of equal rights it's kind of the more progressive of Latinamerica). It was definetly a Disney thing.
and a lot of countries too not only from latam, it's definitely a disney thing
pls do a part two when you have finished dance academy and with go! vive a tú manera i personally feel like it doesn't get enough recognition and i personally love it yes ofc i basic but the show drama and plot twist are beautiful i just enjoy it hhaha but ye i love it
Wait till you get to the season 2 finale of Dance Academy. It's insane
baby you better watch s2 of backstage again because vanessa and beckett, sasha and jenna, miles and julie.
I don't really like the last two ships, but VANESSA AND BECKETT AAAAHHHH I love them
Dance Academy was my favourite show for the longest time but since I've became a K-drama girl definitely my favourite performing art school show is Dream High.
Is not as deep as Dance Academy but the message is so well done and all of the characters are really likeable. You should give it a try 👀
If you finished Dance Academy you’d change your mind… that Sammy episode makes me bawl every time I see it /:
But scarlet! Dj diamond mind! THAT MOMENT WHEN SHE RUNS BACK IN THE SCHOOL I CANT. Why are we only talking ab alya?????
there were so many characters that didn’t get mentioned at all. the show really doesn’t feel designed to have a “main” character at all, even within the different parts. but, i feel like you could almost make a weird argument that it if it had to have a main character, it would be julie
you should definitely check out backstage season 2 because i think based off of this video you haven't seen it JAJAJA, it handles a couple of heavier topics as well (ex: the use of steroids), i think there are some really good ships and the performances are absolutely amazing !!
Hollywood Arts High School high key
reminds me of a high school in my hometown (San Francisco, CA) called School of the Arts, or SOTA.
What about academy of art of San Francisco?
@@Missmagazinebura I’m reminded more of SOTA lol
Backstage was so underrated!! I love it
I grew up watching Violetta, so personally it's the best series for me.
Same! In Germany, it was also huge! I rewatched it recently and still know the songs, it really shaped me, since I watched it when I was young.
I don't really remember that much about backstage, but I do remember that alya was super annoying in season 2 and was writing songs about other people's lives
dance academy , the dancing is a 10/10, all of the actors are actual professional ballet dancers
Violetta restructured my brain chemistry and shaped my childhood and teen years in a way that no other disney show ever did
You ignoring Thomas’s existence is the best part of this video
My dance academy diehard heart hurts so much hearing some of your thoughts on it. I think as a fandom we all agree that Tara sucks, but she’s just the conduit to telling the other character’s stories. Also Ben in the best character! You have to keep watching to see him.
OK SO LIKE HENRI ANNOYED ME IN S1 A LOT BUT IN THE LAST SEASON I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKED HIM AND THOUGHT THAT HIM AND LENA BEING ENDGAME MADE SENSE
Caitlin please do a full video on each of these shows I would love to see that
When I heard Backstage I was so excited!
I had no idea Violetta was so popular outside of Argentina
Compiled from the comments and looking at the wiki fandom, the Backstage love triangles I have found are
1. Alya, Miles, Julie
2. Alya, Miles, Austin
3. Alya, Miles, Bianca (at the beginning)
4. Miles, Julie, Matteo
5. Sasha, Carly, Vanessa (at the beginning)
6. Scarlett, Aiden, Cassandra
They cut to her, and she has the worst feet for a dancer.”
this is the most specific video ever, and i love it
My husband and I just finished rewatching victorious 😅
Tori also did Prom on the same day as Jade's play and they cancelled Jade's play for Tori's prom.
Abagale and Sammy...if you keep watching Sammy starts liking Chritsian also Kat and him have some romance as well, and Sammy also...dies...
Julie was the love triangle in backstage her miles and Julie and I would say backstage had 3 main characters one for the singing part one for the dance and one for production kit Ayla and Vanessa
You’ve gotta finish dance academy! There’s so many twists still coming
I would love a video like this but about teenage witch series like Sabrina, WOWP, Grachi, the secret circle and Good witch
Ohh I would love to see a comparison between Grachi and Every Witch Way too
I love Good Witch but I can’t see Caitlin enjoying it
@@brennicolas3093 she can make a poll and decide which series she should cover
@@Heyitsann I haven't seen Every Witch Way but I heard about the show
Oh wow yess!!!
I feel like even the people who disliked Victoria's character still liked her voice but it was just that compared to Ariana, Liz, and Leon's (but mostly Ariana and Liz's) voices, hers felt more like a normal singing voice, nothing spectacular
andre and tori are deff the true love interest
Sasha was 110% gay but they didn't want to deal with the controversy so they didn't technically say it. It seemed SO obvious that's what the writers were alluding to.
If you don't know where Sammy's story line goes yet then you haven't WATCHED Dance Academy... please do a video when you finish it!
There was the Sasha Carly and Vanessa type thing. Wasnt a LOVE traingle but like with the friendship thing and also Jenna being obsessed with Sasha. And carly and that photographer guy??
Beckett and Vanessa were one of my absolute favorite side ships in Backstage😭😭🤧💓
I love them too 😍
omg backstage! i loved that show as a kid.
Backstage intended for Varly, Sacha as gay or ace, and eventually a throuple between Bianca, Miles and Jax with Miles at the center. Aleah was supposed to get a scholarship and leave without an endgame.
I feel like backstage should have been higher!!! Just because there’s a lot you forgot like Vanessa and Beckett and Cassandra plus the new cast members in season 2
you dont have to be afraid to put your dream in action your never gonna fade youll be the main attraction not a fantasy just remember me when it turns out right cause you know that if you live in your imagination tomorrow youll be everybodys fascination in my victory just remember me when i make it shine.
Caitlin, I know you probably won't see this, but I NEED you to watch Every Witch Way on Nickelodeon. It's just Soo good 😭
No mention of Andre in Victorious for the talent section? That's unfortunate. He's the most talent out of that whole cast Imo.
OMG for your next cliche TV show premise, can you do twins???
My top 3 is 1. violetta 2. Backstage and 3. Go! Vive a tu manera
As soon as i heard the word "Backstage" my ears Perced up. i showed my sister this show about two summers ago and she liked it. i remember it being the last "disney" show i watched before entering my "old kids shows were better phase" which I'm still kinda in. that and Stuck in the Middle and Andi Mack ( i haven't finished either) I'm glad someone is talking about that show. As a American growing up watching shows that come from the great white north was my shit. Stick it into my veins type shit. sorry I'm rambling. i loved backstage and idk if you'll do a full review of it since you already comparing this with other shows but just a thought lol
100% Victorious all the way
Aliyah’s love competition was Bianca!
Just a reminder Leon would flirt w violetta when he was w lara, he got directly to lara after breaking up w violetta, and all the time he is mad when violetta is happy with diego but its fine for him to be w lara.
you will like dance Academy , i hope you enjoy the show
I would like if, to expand the historical and cultural scope, you had looked at what I'd guess is the first performing arts high school series, Fame (1982-1987). It would be very, very interesting to hear your reaction to it. Not sure if you have access to the episodes, of course
victorious all the way
Violetta will always be my favourite! Studio On Beat is such a safe Place for me
Omg omg!!! I know its not a tween show but please watch tiny pretty things, it's like if pretty little liars was set in a ballet school, its so good!!!
El Camp from Atrévete a Soñar will always be the best of the best for me 😍.
