Shock mount on the spare lightweight light stand. I think I even have an adapter which fits and does just that gag. Nice one thanks!

I was sceptical when I initially clicked n this video thinking it was gonna be another bs video. I was wrong. Learned a ton of clever hacks. As a fashion photographer considering doing video for my next trip and looking for input on audio this was massively valuable . Thanks a bunch for doing this. I clearly misjudged you. Alright, so here’s my hobo question of the day - as I have yet to find any solid videos addressing this: wtf is the difference between budget, cheap, shit, prosumer, and pro audio gear (if we remove the workflow and reliability aspects from the equation)? I was pretty blown away by how clean I got my peasant audio mic test to cleanup that I ran on my Warehouse Deals Boya lav mic using Izotope. Can things like preamps be done the diy route or are these Tascams the smarter fire & forget way to approach this? So many of these reviews (barring Gerald Undone and that other really nice suburban dude whose name escapes me ) reek of sponsored content so it becomes challenging to discern what’s legit. Or let me rephrase : what will (probably) go wrong if I cheap out on audio gear and be a massive PITA to unfuck? 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Awesome Video Austin, loving the content coming from your channel. I'd be looking forward to your video about lighting especially how you light the speeches at a wedding and what you use for this, it's often something I would like to do but end up neglecting as a lot of the venues I film in here in the UK are quite anal about keeping on the house lights during speeches and look at me weird when I ask them to be dimmed. I feeling like dimming the house lights would allow my main light the 120d take more of an effect and create separation. Anyway looking forward to the next 2 vids.

Absolutely. I’m so excited to do this video for so many reasons. I’m going to try and break down the lighting for a lot of different receptions halls with a lot of different lighting conditions. I definitely ask to turn down the house lights if possible. ESPECIALLY if it’s causing issues like flicker

@@AustinBlackvideo Thanks Austin. Perhaps you will cover this in your video so you don't have to answer it here but was also wondering if the house lights go down and you have lit the speechmaker would that mean you also light the couple as well? As they would now be quite a bit darker with the house lights having gone down.

Informative video! question!!? Let's say i wanted to be super run and gun, don't have a boom operator and cant really set up a condensor mic on a stand but wanted to keep the mic on my person. I shoot with an A7iii on a ronin-sc, i have a digitalfoto mounting arm attached to the gimbal with a ton of mounting points. I have my small hd focus7 monitor attached to the arm and i have a ton more mounting points on the arm. I want to get a Rode NTG-3 as i think that is the quality of sound i am looking for at a great price. A workhorse that i could use in any situation really (like when I can boom it). As a one person shooter who needs to move around the room capturing QUICK high quality interviews in dance studio and office/shop settings, while recording sound/video. How would you go about mounting the NTG-3 to my setup and provide it phantom power through a good recorder and how would you mount the mic and the recorder and power to yourself? on your belt? in a backpack? on the gimbal? I dont neccesarily want to just go with the rode video mic pro, i think the NTG-3 will serve me better in the long run. The tascam DR-100 mkii seems like a great option for power/recording? Any tips? Would greatly appreciate your feedback!

A shotgun won't sound good mounted on your camera. You'll rarely be close enough to get even remotely professional sounding audio.

@@seanpayne9124 true. i figured this out fast.. i found a good stand option that i just carry around with me while run n gunning.. shooting a documentary now and basically the NTG3 is on a shockmount, on a light stand/tripod, i attached the tascam recorder a foot underneath it and just carry it around and set it down, and it has worked very well
