- The M3 has been a performance go to for many from BMW. The Competition model raises the bar to a new level.. On the outside you will find special lighting, unique grills, and staggered wheels. On the inside you will be welcomed to a full leather interior and carbon fiber accents. Under the hood is a 3.0L twin-turbo inline-6 that produces 503HP & is mated to an 8-speed automatic. Hi Joe - Have to admit, the engine on this M3 sounds MUCH better than on the previous generation. I have been a fan of the M3 since the E36. So having said this, I wish BMW would stop making the M3 bigger and bigger after every new generation. And they are also getting heavier. The one you drove is the same size as the M5 was 25 years ago.
Buy an m2, fixes your issues.

@@olivierdevries01 the m2 feels like a short wheelbase version of a e92 m3. 5 inches shorter length, 2 inches wider, 3 inches shorter wheelbase, same height, backseats are slightly more spacious, maybe about an inch or so in both head and leg room. They weight the same too. But you can remove more things for weight reduction on the m2.
@@Toymonkeyjr he’s right. The M2 is basically the same as the original M3 size wise. My issue with it is the power of these vehicles is wayyy higher than 25 years ago, so lighter vehicles are gonna have trouble getting that power to the ground. There’s a couple videos online of M2’s breaking loose and crashing. Which can happen on the M3 and M4 too, just less likely
@@seanvincenttt I like braking loose, tailhappy. if you're talking about just accelerating you have to modulate the throttle or get bigger tires. But I agree, they do have more power then what most people need.

I daily drive my 2022 M3 Competition Xdrive, it is truly a luxury beast that can be a gentle pussycat if you want it to be. Drive in comfort mode with efficiency engine settings and turn down the exhaust noise and you can cruise in comfort. Push the M1 or M2 button and turn it into a loud track beast and enjoy the German hotrod technology on the track. I love my Portimao Blue 💙
Don't you mean a performance beast? "Luxury" and "gentle" aren't a contrast.
Such a nice car man, one day I hope I can comfortably afford a car in this price range. I’ll work hard to get there one day.
90k for an M3.... that's wild. It feels like just a few years ago, an M3 was 50-60k. Between getting old and inflation everything is just really hard do accept as the new reality 🥲.

This actually competes with the CT4-V Blackwing and not a CT5-V Blackwing. The CT5-V Blackwing is an E-segment vehicles. The M3 and CT4-V Blackwing are D-segment vehicles.
Also, Europe, South Korea, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are gonna get the M3 Touring. It’ll only come with xDrive and an 8AT. It has the same power and torque figures as the Competition M3, but 0-62 is in 3.6 seconds and the top speed is 174mph if you remove the limiter.
Can you define D and E segment vehicles?

Still not feeling the grill but it almost disappears in murdered out guise. I'd still take the CT4-Blackwing because track but let's see what a M3 CS can do, might sway my mind (or maybe Cadillac will surprise us with actual performance upgrades for the Track Edition CT5-V BW that debuts tomorrow - but my guess is it will all be appearance stuff.)

It really is the king of the class. The BMW M3. Its as original as a Harley Davidson Electra Glide. There are no substitutes.

Nothing looks like the M3 or sounds like this. This and the Audi RS6 are just badass. The grill isn’t bad on this because of the color and the M3 design.

Prefer the F80/82 gen , but the S58 engine in this G80/82 is unrivaled
very reliable/fuel efficient and especially the easy tuning power gains
2023 M2
I must have heard about the M3 around '86 or so with that iconic edition. It's almost always been a hugely desirable performance sedan with German engineering.
Backup camera display is configurable - just shut off PDC. Need to zonk silver trim around HVAC controls - blinding in direct sun. Ventilated seats are an option (if you forgo the carbon fiber buckets) - who ordered this M3 Competition without? Probably why it got traded in for a Jaguar. Thank Raiti!

@@nathanielordonez2257 mine is a RWD, with a good amount of options but not all of them. I also bought the extended warranty that included brake maintenance so it went up a bit (but a brake job on this thing is upwards of 1200 because of the M brakes so it was worth it). It was 66k total but my trade in and a few other discounts brought it down for the amount I financed

I can see it competing against this. 472 horsepower from a twin turbo V6 and the m3 with the straight 6 with 503 horsepower so competition is close for horsepower and would be a better competitor against the m3 competition
This is a competition model so maybe not so much so, the ct4 v black wing competes more with a highly option m340i or maybe a base m3 but the base m3 is still a lot more expensive
Yeah if you compare manual for manual it's definitely between this and the CT4-V Blackwing
Size and price-wise this is absolutely a CT4 BW competitor, not CT5 BW. That is the M5’s competitor.

Beautiful car and awesome review as always, Joe! Sad to see a $90k car without 360 degree camera, sunroof, cooled seats, no stitching on the door panel, and a very outdated looking navigation system. The engine sounds amazing though, definitely the main selling point!

Sunroof adds weight I prefer persormance cars without one.
It has those but as options, you can switch the the carbon fiber roof for a moon roof and the cooled seat is an upgrade option. No stitching tho
I wish the competition model came with with a 6 speed manual. Cadillac offered with the ct5. The car would be so much fun with it

Have you driven one yet? Because if you haven't you will say that this is 1 of the best cars ever I have driven a lot of nice cars lambos Ferrari's Porsche's audience and hands down this is top 5 that I've returning amazing car to be honest

Never owned neither of these Cars But I always admired BMW,s innovations, they are truly a leader, I have seen this vehicle close range, dig everything about it, including the grill wish they had put in some functional heat extractors, yes agree, would have looked more aggressive, but either way love your honest review, Would take this over the CTS-5 any day

Great review, but that year, the Xdrive version is actually 0-60 in 2.8 secs and 1/4 time of 11.0. It does come with vented seats.

Ive noticed the majority of the performance vehicles you review use the the ZF-8 Speed Automatic Transmission. I'm curious how that Transmission feels and responds.
