- On today's episode, Behind the Greens meets with Terry Beacon, of Sun World. As director of Sun World's Variety Development Center, Beacon's task is to improve and enhance an already spectacular fruit. The company is introducing a variety of late-season, seedless, table grapes. The late-season white, seedless table grape is grower friendly and sizes naturally to around an inch and has an incredible flavor. Another of Sun World's varietals is the late-season black seedless table grape. The naturally big grape has a delicious flavor and unlike other black grapes, has virtually no seed trace. During the last week in September through October, when the color, aroma and sugars of the late black seedless grapes have developed, the fruit will begin to be picked.
Both varieties of grapes will be marketed with the Scarlotta Seedless brand grapes. This allows retailers to have strong late season offerings in three unique colors. Sun World uses traditional hybridization techniques to produce these new varieties by hand. After pollination has occurred and the grape berries are large enough, the grape clusters can be harvested and seed traces removed. With the help of Sun World's Variety Development Center, the grape can be nurtured into new growth called hybrid seedlings. Because of their fragile nature, they are further cultivated in test tubes, under grow lights until they are strong enough to be transplanted into a greenhouse. Here, the seedlings are acclimated to the direct sun light and temperamental conditions. In the Spring, these seedlings are moved into the fields and will continue their growth over the next four years. The entire process takes approximately ten years, from the first crosses made during pollination to the first commercial harvesting of the new varieties.
With pre-trial tasting panels during the fruiting season, Sun World receives feedback on the grapes from consumers, customers and marketers. Sun World's goal is to provide a great eating experience for the consumer, and they work as diligently toward this goal, as they do in cultivating the industry.
I want seeds in my grapes. More vitality, even if the seeds aren't eaten. The flesh nutritiveness or growth hormones or something positive, is boosted by the development of the seeds in the fruit.
It doesn't matter who you are, how experienced you are or what your location is... You can grow perfect grape vines that produce the juiciest grapes you've ever tasted.

I don't like grapes with seeds, it's really annoying to get them out of your mouth every single time, i have eaten seedless my entire life
same
@@demdare31 you're supposed to eat the seeds.
@@beyondthefirmament726 they're annoying and taste awful, you do you though
Wait.. Seed trace of seedless grape can be grown?!!!!
WoW. Although I'm not a fan of seedless but it's impressive how they do it.
And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. Genesis 1:11
I prefer grapes with seeds
I was eating grapes this morning and I realised they don't have seeds. I questioned how can it be, I assumed they were made in labs I dont think it's is healthy.
That's why I watched this video to understand it.

Seedless grapes occurred naturally as a genetic mutation, so yes, your seedless grapes are natural. You're welcome.
Great video💎💎💎💎
I will not buy nor eat any fruit or vegetable that is Seedless.
That is not normal to me. I feel it is another way for growers to be in control of what I eat!!
This is why I grow my own food! I use organic heirloom seeds. Its fun and healthier!

Well I know I'm late but a lot of things are seedless and most of if was cause from a natural phenomenon and once we found out about it we tried to find a way to harvest it,so yes technically it's natural but Jesus it's just food, frozen meat are worse than this and those are completely natural yet frozen meat has a 2 percent chance to cause cancer . It's just food and a lot of things are made by hybrid fruits heck there are a lot of hybrid apples made by people that you could've have eaten.
Watching this while struggling with non seedless grapes. Wtf
What chemicals you put it in the tube to grow the seedless grapes
+Maruti Patel I am not 100% sure what they add, but I would guess that it is agar with some added nutrients. It's a common medium to grow orchids and fungi on.
so then they are healthy to eat joshua ?
lol that what i was going to comment ha......
@@moonlightontheriver Lmao of course they are.

Great video 👏👏👏
Does the seed trace need stratification?
Hybrid Quick lab growing grapes aka seedless grapes
Will cuttings or marcots -- from a seedless grape vine -- grow and produce seedless fruits? I notice that the seed traces are used to grow seedlings in the laboratory. Why not plant the pruned branches?
I'm in Miami florida where can I purchase grapes that have seeds in them?

Do you sell the cutting ?
I’m sorry did you say “nurtured with nutrients did sugars”? YIKES!!
what do you think photosynthesis is? the enzymes in the dishes are from plants. the plants in natural conditions are making sugar from the sun. pretty much every plant you eat!
@@krystofeliska yea, God given and naturally derived.. not in a lab in a tube filled with chemicals. You can say it’s naturally occurring all you want, it’s not. Leave shit alone.

Fruit should have seeds...I will never buy these...God made food I wish many would stop playing with it!!!!
I know I'm late but a lot of things are seedless and most of if was cause from a natural phenomenon and once we found out about it we tried to find a way to harvest it,so yes technically it's natural and from "god", Jesus lady it's just food frozen meat are worse than this and those are completely natural yet frozen meat has a 2 percent chance to cause cancer . It's just food
I agree, they don't taste anything like I remember as a child, nature should be left alone.
love the way he says natural how can it be natural if man has altered it i dont know much about this would like to learn more normally when we muck around with things it is no benifitial if anyone knows can they comment
so from a quick search they cut off from a normal tree put in rooting hormone so it alers the grape "nutuers them" then grown not "natural" like he says couldnt b cause they can not be reproduced on there own i bet they r not as healthy as natural grapes that have seeds the whole idea of something that is to do with carrying a seed and then having it manipulated so it dont carry that seed is proposturus just so that you dont have to spit out, a seed that incidently if you spat out on a walk in the country side could grow into another plant they spay foods with pesticides that are posionous, carcenagenic, they wear masks when spraying them chickens dont see daylight feed crappy fatty food to grow quick then put in our bodies you r what you eat and they wonder why obesity is on the increase cows dont eat grass also feed shit some times remains of other animals cause it economic but its not benifitial to human health natural anything will be way more healthy for you be carefull what you put in your body you never know how it will effect you in the future
I want seeds....
I love the green and black grapes! Purple not so much.
👍
Seedless means lifeless
CAN we have GRAPES with SEEDS... The LORD made seeded Grapes...WHY are you making them Seedless~?
I bet you can make those seeds to be softer and more gelatinous, so that NO need to make them completely seedless.
CatBornAgain lord Made seeded grapes for reproduction. But farming renders it useless plus seedless tastes way better
Because people have become so lazy that it's now too much work to spit out a seed.....
@@zacheysflip859 I want seeds in my grapes, and they feel/taste way better to my body. More vitality, even if the seeds aren't eaten. The flesh nutritiveness or growth hormones or something positive, is boosted by the development of the seeds in the fruit.
Bon Summers well not all people are you and your right they are sweeter but the seed is too hard but when I bite into it it has a nice crunch
@@zacheysflip859 I'm not talking about sweetness. I'm talking about balance and virility. Too-sweet grapes I don't eat, because the balance is wrong for prime body integrity. Balance,… balanced with sweetness is what I'm talking about.
IM NOT EATIN THEM NOMORE AFTER TODAY
I can't imagine someone requesting fruit without seeds. How do you think you got the fruit in the first place? With a seed planted into the ground of mother earth. Why do you think every single fruit has a seed? It has nutritional benefits if eaten as well. Seedless fruit should be banned, sadly it won't due to lazy people. 😑 sad that we are slowly destroying such a beautiful world given to us.
most fruit seeds are poisonous
@@bobsmith-ud9xi you dummy
I want seeds in my grapes. More vitality, even if the seeds aren't eaten. The flesh nutritiveness or growth hormones or something positive, is boosted by the development of the seeds in the fruit. And so, I grow many grape varieties which have seeds.
The nutrition benefit is mainly from the quality of the flesh in which the seed was grown, not so much eating the seed, due to anti-nutrients in the seed, but a little is ok,… and often grape seeds don't need to be chewed if they're small enough, they're just part of the softly chewed slurry which you swallow.
This is not true at all, because all products are developed in one way or another. If you are given an original natural fruit, you will immediately throw it away from the severity of its primitiveness, such as potatoes, tomatoes and many other fruits.
grapes are Parthenocarpic fruit

I really want you all to do something the next time you'll taste have a tasting test when your grapes to have two different bowls two different types of two different ways that you can have each being tested on each great have one Frozen and have one Raw like right off the vine and you will taste the difference in each grape when it is frozen and non Frozen some of them both rule be really sweet some of them will be sweet but not as sweet as when they are frozen you will have good results
You need to stop trying to play God.
GMO, no thanks.
this is unnatural
ohhhh you are 63 years old. lady, you should stop debating on the internet about things you are ignorant about.
i'm sure when you where "younger" you used to hear or say the old saying: "old people never change their ways"
we live in a connected world where information is abundant and free. we have technologies and knowledge that would be beyond the comprehension of people from when you where 20 years old.
the Abrahamic religions (Christianity,Islam,Judaism) will go away like the Greek gods
The Arab person has a much better and easier way than this used to produce seedless varieties If you tell someone about it, they will say it's magic It includes all fruit trees with pits
