  • On today's episode, Behind the Greens meets with Terry Beacon, of Sun World. As director of Sun World's Variety Development Center, Beacon's task is to improve and enhance an already spectacular fruit. The company is introducing a variety of late-season, seedless, table grapes. The late-season white, seedless table grape is grower friendly and sizes naturally to around an inch and has an incredible flavor. Another of Sun World's varietals is the late-season black seedless table grape. The naturally big grape has a delicious flavor and unlike other black grapes, has virtually no seed trace. During the last week in September through October, when the color, aroma and sugars of the late black seedless grapes have developed, the fruit will begin to be picked.
    Both varieties of grapes will be marketed with the Scarlotta Seedless brand grapes. This allows retailers to have strong late season offerings in three unique colors. Sun World uses traditional hybridization techniques to produce these new varieties by hand. After pollination has occurred and the grape berries are large enough, the grape clusters can be harvested and seed traces removed. With the help of Sun World's Variety Development Center, the grape can be nurtured into new growth called hybrid seedlings. Because of their fragile nature, they are further cultivated in test tubes, under grow lights until they are strong enough to be transplanted into a greenhouse. Here, the seedlings are acclimated to the direct sun light and temperamental conditions. In the Spring, these seedlings are moved into the fields and will continue their growth over the next four years. The entire process takes approximately ten years, from the first crosses made during pollination to the first commercial harvesting of the new varieties.
    With pre-trial tasting panels during the fruiting season, Sun World receives feedback on the grapes from consumers, customers and marketers. Sun World's goal is to provide a great eating experience for the consumer, and they work as diligently toward this goal, as they do in cultivating the industry.

    I want seeds in my grapes. More vitality, even if the seeds aren't eaten. The flesh nutritiveness or growth hormones or something positive, is boosted by the development of the seeds in the fruit.

      so from a quick search they cut off from a normal tree put in rooting hormone so it alers the grape "nutuers them" then grown not "natural" like he says couldnt b cause they can not be reproduced on there own i bet they r not as healthy as natural grapes that have seeds the whole idea of something that is to do with carrying a seed and then having it manipulated so it dont carry that seed is proposturus just so that you dont have to spit out, a seed that incidently if you spat out on a walk in the country side could grow into another plant they spay foods with pesticides that are posionous, carcenagenic, they wear masks when spraying them chickens dont see daylight feed crappy fatty food to grow quick then put in our bodies you r what you eat and they wonder why obesity is on the increase cows dont eat grass also feed shit some times remains of other animals cause it economic but its not benifitial to human health natural anything will be way more healthy for you be carefull what you put in your body you never know how it will effect you in the future

    I can't imagine someone requesting fruit without seeds. How do you think you got the fruit in the first place? With a seed planted into the ground of mother earth. Why do you think every single fruit has a seed? It has nutritional benefits if eaten as well. Seedless fruit should be banned, sadly it won't due to lazy people. 😑 sad that we are slowly destroying such a beautiful world given to us.

    • @bonsummers2657
      @bonsummers2657 4 года назад

      The nutrition benefit is mainly from the quality of the flesh in which the seed was grown, not so much eating the seed, due to anti-nutrients in the seed, but a little is ok,… and often grape seeds don't need to be chewed if they're small enough, they're just part of the softly chewed slurry which you swallow.
