The colourisation of the Malin’s sunken lane film is fantastic. It brings those Pals back to life.

I was thinking that those sheep had a lot of balls to be grazing a minefield. I was literally right.

Hey, Sander! Cool video. Sad how many of the troops in the footage would be killed w/in 24 hours of the filming.
Helpful labeling of the video footage of the battlefield.
Cool how Chris found part of a shell. Awesome how you found barbed wire. The finding of the nail is cool also.
Do the local authorities do occasional searches for grenade fragments, unexploded ordinances, etc for safety?
    Great drone footage!
    Great info about the trenches.
I didn't know about the danger tree. The info Chris provided and the footage are helpful. It's sad how there were 90% casualties.
Makes sense to not allow entry into the red zones. I hope they haven't lost many sheep though.
The cemetery is beautiful and looks well maintained.
    I def want to visit.
It's awesome how you found multiple lead balls and grenade fragment. Nice find of the pole too.
I am stoked for the relic hunting video 😊.
Cool how Shawn (sp?) found many lead balls as well.
Awesome find of the shell casing :) Cool find of the cartridges and grenade fragment also.
Nice video! Have a wonderful week, Sander!

The farmers usually place what they find at certain spots besides the fields. And they are picked up at a regular basis by the department that’s handles the disposal. It’s best to leave that stuff alone as much we possible, which we did ofcourse 😂
You can see in my relic video that I made with Sander and the others, that we found a pretty big shell in a field.

23.55 it’s trench revetment. To support trenches… not for wire

Awesome series Sander, I wounder how many sheep they lose walking around the red zones , looking forward to the artifact video, I can't imagine how crazy a metal detector would go searching those fields.

I talked to someone at Vimy Ridge while we were there on the trip and they said no sheep have been lost at Vimy😅. Guess it’s the same at this location, since they use the same sheep.
Also I uploaded a relic hunting video to my channel, in which you can see Sander. That video is about what we found at one field, Sander did some searching elsewhere too. But it will give you a good indication on what you might find still.

Just a comment on the Newfoundland Regiment casualties. As appalling as they were, the 10th West Yorkshire's attacking Fricourt suffered the worst casualty rate on 1st July.
Fantastic video from some of my favourite RUclipsrs though.

Shrapnel is the small round balls, invented by Mr Shrapnel. The jagged metal pieces are called Shell Splinters

If you look at the Malins film of the Lancashire Fusiliers, there is a mix of realisation of what is about to come from the Gallipoli veterans from the previous year and the sheer terror of those new recruits about to go over the top for the first time.
Also the ones who seem to be laughing and smiling, they were the ones in reserve, the Stokes mortar teams.

The farmers have a steel plate under the seat of their tractors. To prevent their balls from being blown off. Really!

Yes Papa VK is correct! Still accidents happen though. On Dutch tv this week there was a Belgian programme where some guys went on a hiking trip through the Ypres area. They talked to a farmer who’s dad was blown up in the 80’s while ploughing the field. He said he was killed instantly. Really tragic.
