I'd like to bring up an alternate background for this. (Probably gonna have to fully reveal it.)
On the left, an old computer monitor, that looks like its from the late 90s or early 2000s. And on the right, an old TV that looks like its from the late 80's. Each with mics leaned on them.
On Sonic's side, an old Windows XP PC to match with the monitor would be plugged in, with a regular white USB placed beside it featuring a hastily made label with tape and paper. "Throw Away!".
(I kinda found out in the comments that its actually not a "PC Port of Mario", but the title was a joke. I will keep the original idea here.)
On Mario's side, a regular, standalone NES plugged in to the TV. A single controller would be plugged into the console, but it would be on top of the NES, rather than on the floor. Inside the cartridge slot is a bloodied "MARIO" cart, that appears to be the same one seen in the Mario's Madness mod.
Any ideas for this are appreciated!

That's a cool idea, and it would be nice to remind each era (Mario from the mid 80s and Sonic from the early and late 90s), but I think since both Lord X and MX are from the "PC Ports" of the first games of both series, a PC makes sense for both, unless it was the original Sonic.exe and Mario.exe, then I think it would make sense whatever if it was an old TV with a NES (and a Genesis as well), or an old PC from the late 90s/early 2000s, even thought both the original Mario.exe and Sonic.exe are also PC games even in the story of the creepypasta itself

Actually Mario 85 is not a pc port, that was the original name which was actually a joke however it was changed since it didn’t make sense in the context of the story since Lucas got absorbed into the screen displaying an nes with SMB

My idea if a sprite change was ever implemented.
You both start off in Mario's world. Rings here are replaced with coins, but they function the same. (You're Mario, not Sonic - so you grab coins instead.)
When Sonic hits a monitor on his side (replacing the static notes), you are transported to Sonic's world.
Coins are once again rings, but when you grab a ring, it takes away 1 from your coin counter rather than adding 1.
? blocks appear on your side now though, hit one and you'll be warped back to Mario's world where you have your coins again.
However, at the ending with the drowning leitmotif, you will be transported to a split between Lord X's world and MX's world (with each character being on their respective side.)
Let's all be honest if they both were to clash Mario exe gonna lose hard
