  • A panel with with Scott Kiloby, Richard Miller and Russ Hudson; facilitated by Julie Yau.
A profound and intrinsic relationship exists between trauma and spirituality that can foster emotional maturity and psychospiritual growth. The survival response embedded within trauma has the potential to catalyze authentic spiritual transformation. Similarly, as our essential wholeness is rediscovered on a spiritual path, trauma can be met with greater compassion and an appreciation of the interconnectedness to self, nature, and the cosmos. Spiritual realizations can allow us fearlessly to touch into the death-like void that is often at the root of trauma. When early trauma, dissociation, and/or intergenerational trauma has occurred, however, the spiritual path can be an unconscious means of avoiding the resolution of trauma and full embodiment. The panel members will discuss their views and insights on the seeming two paths and the significance of recognizing the importance of uniting them for our overall well being, increased consciousness, and spiritual unfolding.

“Love finds the next part of us that needs loving attention. If we don’t understand that, we can think we’re flunking. We can think ‘I was so awake, and now I’m in this terrible state. No, it makes sense you’re in this terrible state because the nondual awareness we’re talking about is also love and compassion and so it finds these split-off elements of our psyche and holds them...” 8.30-10.19 huge gratitude - I so much needed to hear that. So much of value here to take forward ❤️

I so appreciate the two things Russ Hudson brought up: the existential wasteland and the trauma from neglect.

This is an awe inspiring discussion. There is so much content packed into this I'm sure it can be listened to time and time again, and that understanding, as well as a continually deepening embrace of these principles can be had. Thank you all so much.

I thought Erin M absolutely right to highlight (per Russ Hudson) “1:06:06- The wasteland you reach after you’ve dealt with your trauma” - mentioned also by integrateself. And then Julie Yau, 1:13:00 onwards, the allusion to birth, coming into our world … these passages brought into my mind the uplifting lines by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926):
God speaks to each of us before we are,
before he's formed us - then, in cloudy speech,
but only then, he speaks these words to each
and silently walks with us from the dark:
    Driven by your senses, dare
to the edge of longing. Grow,
like a fire's shadow casting glare,
behind assembled things, so you can spread
their shapes on me as clothes.
    Don't leave me bare.
Let it all happen to you: beauty and dread.
Simply go - no feeling is too much -
and only this way can we stay in touch.
    Near here is the land
    that they call life.
    You'll know when you arrive
    by how real it is.
    Give me your hand.

Thank you, so appreciating this, and all the videos on this channel, so pleased the walls between mind, body plus each individual is just that, individual; labels on boxes, us being a labelled box, in one way, and multiple, community is the great loss, engineered or otherwise, a lost and beautiful concept that the idea of which, is being re-discovered and re-recovered. Again, many thanks,

the best I´ve ever heard on trauma (which chronic stress also is!) and spirituality, and the healing in it all. Thank you all :)
    Think if... or What if...
psychiatry and psychology, could adapt these ways of coming into healing, into their learning how to work with individuals.
Allcells in our bodies, always knows-feels, whats right or wrong, love or not. Like balm to listen to.

27:50 I can see clearly that most trauma survivors seeking help are not ready to face the full intensity of their pain, and a gentle approach like Levine's is probably necessary, and a good foundation needs to be laid to move into more difficult feelings, sensations. But if a person has that foundation, for as long as it takes, at what point do we trust ourselves, the wisdom of the body, the emotional body, our spirit to move beyond 'titrating' feelings, to simply allow a feeling, even intense feelings like deep grief, rage, even terror, to fully connect and flow freely to resolution, like a wave that rises, breaks, and then dissolves when its run its course?
Is 'reliving' trauma feelings necessarily 'retraumatizing'? If a woman witnessed the death of her child and began to wail uncontrollably as an expression of the unbearable pain, would it be good to stop her and have her 'titrate', 'pendulate' that expression? Would that pure expression of the pain be traumatizing her, or maybe that release, that processing in real time, might avoid that experience being stored and wreaking havoc later. Maybe that's nature's way of processing trauma, to allow the feelings to have their full expression? Maybe allowing, when a person is ready, to fully open to the full intensity of their pain is not inherently 'retraumatizing'. Maybe it's not actually 'reliving' but actually living, feeling for the first time, at the point we dissociated from the original trauma pain, and will naturally shut off, dissipate when we have processed/felt what we are able to feel at a given time.
I experienced severe violent and sexual trauma as a toddler. I have been feeling, processing it over a long time, because of the severity of it. I was able, with the help of a somatic therapy (Primal, not SE) to feel pieces of that original pain I had no conscious memory of when I started, and it has not 'retraumatized' me, rather it has connected me to my self that was lost, buried under that overwhelming pain. I even have processed pure terror directly, allowing the intensity of the energy to flow through me. I learned early on to trust the process, the inherent wisdom of my body and spirit to only bring up what I was ready, needed to feel at a given time.
But I can see that this is not right for everyone, maybe only a few. But maybe many who, if they were allowed by their somatic practitioners, could be allowed to feel and release much than than is expected, if they intuitively feel a need to go there, to feel at that level. Maybe the somatic practitioners are simply terrified of their own intense feelings, and then transfer that fear, belief that it is inherently dangerous to their clients.
I just want to offer this different perspective, from experience. There is so much else and in the other videos with this panel here that I resonate with, think is wonderful, good to hear.

Thank you Lawrence for that thoughtful reply concerning the "reliving" trauma feelings possibly not being "re-traumatization". I too experienced some of the feelings of my original trauma through somatic and EMDR therapy and feel that, though intense and painful, it did not reset me back into a renewed state of trauma. Of course, this was just my experience and by the time I started to have full expression of my emotional trauma state, I had a few years of titration as described the the talk (going back and forth into safe being states and frozen child states (for lack of a better term) through a group therapy process. At that time, it seemed unthinkable to delve into the well of chaotic, painful emotions that I felt were always just under the surface. However, I wonder if I would have gotten a similar healing result if experience all at once. I agree with what you wrote about "it's not right for everyone". I love to hear others experience so much and even if it isn't mine it expands my mind and works into my experience somehow. What I continue to find though, is my trauma and awakening is like the proverbial onion. I keep thinking "there, I experienced that, I released that, and now I'm this" and it's never quite that simple and probably dualistic thinking :). I love this talk and the channel and the wonderful responses and thought provoking dialog, like yours, that this community seems to have brought to the table. Thank you so much!

+Jak pokonałem raka I absolutely believe that you are right about the exception of very deep traumas. Almighty Creator said He created a cure for everything except death. I experienced the separation of my soul or spirit from my body via cardio/pulmonary arrest. I went to Psychiatrist and Therapist because I couldn't get over the type of pain. They did not know what to do for me because they never had a patient like me. That was in 1989. Later classified as Medical PTSD. My spiritually, aura(became white)and whole being changed. Pranic Healer, Reiki Practitioner and Universal Energy (Chi) Practitioner, all gave me free certification, up to level two of each. As long as humankind has the notion that death is peaceful and painless, no one will get help. What happened to me cause me to realize the Awesomeness of Almighty God. He created soo many different pains and said: "If you prick a finger, it clears away a sin." (40 Hadith Qudsi) I have seen the truth in those words! Can you imagine 14 hours of pancreatic pain! I recovered from that, but not the first incident, which humbled me to the depths of my soul, as I remain today. I am sorry to write so much, but it happens everytime I read a "truth," I become "flooded" with words about experiences.

+brenda126176 I do believe that even the deepest trauma can be cured but it requires a much longer period. God is Love and doesn't want ANY ONE to suffer. The suffering is inflicted on humans by other humans (or self-inflicted) by abusing free will. There is always hope. And POSSIBILITY...
