Take the comments about Americans with a grain of salt. Obviously Eldritch doesn’t hate Americans or think they’re all idiots; he is influenced by quite a few American musicians. I think he means the culture of America is quite censored and controlled so a lot of stuff doesn’t get to many Americans unfortunately. He’s right about American politics essentially being global politics because American politics affects the whole world. Thus he has a right to express his opinion about America. To me, musicians aren’t just there for our entertainment, they’re people too and have things they want to say and send out to the world. That’s why they’re musicians. Eldritch happens to have a political statement to make in this era. Definitely a rather poor choice of words on his part considering how Americans are quite a sensitive bunch (this coming from an American) and it’s a pretty ignorant generalization, but I’m sure not as ill-intended as many think.
Why not listen a bit to his fellow british "goth"-singer Carl McCoy? (In his younger days, that is) Or any generic death-metal singer, for that matter? Singing is not quite like talking, you know... :-)
