Thanks for another very helpful video - I’m relieved to know that I’ve been pruning my big leaf hydrangeas the correct way. Your explanation made more sense than a lot of what I’ve read - I guess I respond better to the visual demonstrations that you provide. Thanks also for shedding light on why I always seem to have a few branches that don’t flower.
In addition to my big leaf hydrangeas, I also have a couple of oak leaf hydrangeas. Is the pruning procedure the same for those?

I live near Memphis, zones 7b to 8a. I have an Annabelle hydrangea as well as a Limelight. I cut the dead blossoms from both a week and a half ago. But I didn’t cut the branches back. I only cut at the bases of the blooms. Basically deadheading. I hope I didn’t cause any problems by doing so. I’ve had both plants for three years and this was the first year I decided to do this because the dead blooms were really dark and discolored. Thanks for such great information.
