I did the same trip last month. Next time what should do is leave Kuala Lumpur early in the morning, say 6:30am, and take a slow drive. Take a detour to Ipoh for breakfast and arrive at GeorgeTown at about 1:30pm. Check-in and stay the day. Give yourself one full day (or two) to explore...and eat..eat...eat. Then leave GeorgeTown early the 3rd day or 4th day early in the morning..say 6:30am. Once you reach Simpang Pulai, detour there for breakfast. You'll arrive back in Kuala Lumpur a bit after 1pm. Then shower and nap..
You are right about the beautiful scene along the highway. When I was a kid, and since I'm from the east coast, each time we had to go to Kuala Lumpur, my father had to drive along a winding road that pass through jungle and mountain. The trip can be scary most of the time, as it is not a highway, just 2 lanes road, however my brother and I always feel excited when we see so many green, very tall trees, mountain top from afar and carved hills to make the road, and tunnels. We will play game which tree is the tallest or pointing at monkeys climbing those trees. Such a great memory.
The best thing about going on a road trip is rest stops! I goes on road trips every week, sometimes twice a week for my study. Usually from melaka to kl, kl to johor. Its tiring but watching this vid reminds me that something so simple can be so attractive to somebody else. I can do without the traffic though! Also i prefers to fly or go on train ride to penang now, the traffic can be devastating! Pls come to malaysia again!
I'm living in Kuala Lumpur and familiar with Penang, yet I really enjoyed your travel experience video and I followed you till the end! Love it. Love you.
Omg you was in food heaven state in Malaysia and you having a kaya bun for breakfast , thats sad dear.. Penang is a food heaven , next time if you again you shud try the food there...

As a Brit whose mum was born in Penang.... one issue I have is refuelling a hire car and paying cash. Real problem, have to go to kiosk to explain and get them to reset the pump every time. Good job I allowed plenty of time to refill the car before I got to return it at the airport

If you travel to the north, you might see paddy fields around the highway. Try visit alor star the capital city of kedah. Kedah is known for paddy fields plantation in Malaysia. You can also check out Gunung Jerai (mount. Jerai) The resort there is amazing and the view is breathtaking. You can see large paddy fields plantation on top of the mountain.
