I think music is all about numbers, digital is all numbers, so, if you relay love music, you have to prefer digital to analog. I've been there and done that. If you spend on your digital system as much as you spent on your analog, I am sure the digital will kill the analog source in resolution, dynamics or clarity. This is what really matters, to get as close as possible to the source !!!
Now if you're talking "Involvement" you're talking about something subjective that just isn't there (on the recording i mean). No recording has such a thing as "Involvement". The Involvement you speak of is your connection to your system and the way it presents things, it might be the system distortion, the room acoustics, it might even be your couch ... not an emotion coming from the file or vinyl track your listening... ;)
In my opinion, Room First ALWAYS, source Second (digital) !! ;)
I also have a very expensive rig both Analog and Digital... and I'm also an audiophile for 30 years, check my channel.

      Thanks for the comment *****
You are correct. The emotional connection, regardless of digital or analog source material, is not in the recording. It is in the synergy between room, gear, and musician.
When you attend a live event with musicians as the source, the emotional connection then becomes between the musicians and yourself. With gear and a room, we are a few steps away from an ideal emotional connection. I guess it is similar to a master tape recording and a CD from that original recording. The CD is a few steps removed in sound quality from the original master and we are always chasing the original.
      Nice channel!
      Thanks
      Dennis
