I begged, BEGGED, my brother to take me to go see this tour (I was 14 at the time). He was afraid of getting in too late the next morning to go college. I never let him live that down. Of course now he conveniently doesn't remember this. Believe me, I do!

The VH sound is all on display here: Ed's guitar (of course), Alex's monster drumming and Mike's high backing vocals. People say that VH couldn't rock with Sammy? Please.
Love this version! Van Halen's idea of Speed Metal. :) They play it so fast...a little faster than the album version, I think...that you can tell they're having a time keeping it from going off the rails. But of course, Eddie and crew pull it off.
Sammy Hagar in an interview he did after he joined Van Halen said that during the David Lee Roth era of Van Halen, the band would not do any rehearsals or prepare before a concert, they would just get on stage and just let it rip. When Sammy was a solo artist, he and his band before every show would do a rehearsal to be sure they were ready and in sync and in rhythm so they put on a good performance, but with Van Halen, they hit the stage and the show begins.
That crazy Steinberger guitar, where the whammy bar works kind of like a gear shift... crazy! But it makes this song possible! I've loved this song ever since I first heard it at age 13 or 14. Every lead singer in the world should want to sing with Mikey, his harmonies enhance the performance of every singer he works with. :)
RIP Eddie. This tune was one my earliest introduction to this maestros. Run this tune over and over again yesterday while I'm crying. It might be one of their hardest tune to play, Eddie almost never left Alex side the entire tune, except for the ending part. And that tone Eddie produced is a lesson in itself. How he produced such a great tone that even one note sounds Godlike...
What I love SO MUCH in this performance, is the utter FUN these guys are having while performing. Reminds me a lot of Devin Townsend live. The sheer joy just oozes from his pores.
They are just fucking blazing on this song! Alex looks gasman just hammering that double bass! Such a killer tune in live, especially. Goddamn I miss this group.
Remember renting Live Without A Net from my local mom and pop video store (remember those?) on VHS. It was right at the same time a beloved great uncle of mine had died and watching this was a definite pick me up for me, my brother and our cousin. In those days wakes still went two or three days/nights (at least Italian Catholic ones did anyway) so it was cool having something positive and stimulating to look forward to when we got home. Sammy put his whole heart and soul into proving himself to skeptical fans. It shows up in spades here.
@@Rockstar-lx2li I don't know if their age had anything to do with it, but maybe in the early '90s. Around the Carnal Knowledge era. That was like 92' right?
Ok...I was listening to the studio version and questioned if Alex was overdubbing some of those drum fills because it seemed too fast for Alex. I went to this video to see how he actually played it live. Wow...how dare me question the legend. Wtf! This was crazy talent across the board to pull that off live faster than the studio and just as clean.
How tf does Eddie come up with these musical, beautiful, and fucking fantastic riffs. I can't even play a chord progression without it sounding like a damn blues/country song.
I would have loved to go see this concert even though I never really liked Sammy Hagar I still would have loved to see Eddie the greatest guitarist of all time R.I.P
This is a band loaded with talent. Alex's drumming is just pheonomel, Sammy's vocals, MIchael's bass line is extremely complex & then of course you have Eddie.......
No one's ever looked happier onstage than EVH. That smile is missed.
Got that right sister
I was 16 when this came out ....what's not to like 😎
He should of gone into Cryogenics Like the duke did. when they have a cure bring him back to play for people 50 to 100 yrs from now,
Big smile.
Most everyone who's ever met the guy says he's totally different and in his happy zone on stage. RIP

Right?
Alex is a great drummer
Yes Indeed. You try playing that stuff. You can't
@@sammyvh11 absolutely - Alex Van Halen is the guy that played more unplayable parts than most.
Michael Anthony is one of the worlds most underrated singers . His range I’d phenomenal
Van Halen, Def Leppard, Megadeth... possibly Aerosmith. They made the eighties worth living through.
Don’t forget Mötley Crüe and Metallica
Unfortunately I never got to experience the 80’s
Def Leppard and Aerosmith were pretty terrible in the late 80’s, I will say though their early 80’s stuff was good.
Don’t forget Rush, Anthrax, Queensryche, Metallica, and Iron Maiden!

well, isn't it funny, that especially Eddie Van Halen says nowadays, that Michael couldn't sing and couldn't play bass :-)
Eddie is so great. I can't think of anyone else who used the Steinberger TransTrem creatively in a pop/rock song.
The way they play together so tightly on a song with such crazy syncopations is beyond insane!
All expect the GEEETTTT UPPPP timing the first time lol
That confirmation look Michael throws back to Alex at the end of the song, knowing they completely nailed it. Amazing ❤️

The heaviest song Van Halen ever made. Always wished they did more of this. Hagar was the only one who completed this sort of heavy sound.
