- My dad happened to be recording when this legendary moment occurred. Taken on the evening of September 5, 2019 at the Playstation Theater in New York.
You can hear me losing my collective shit just out of frame on the left as soon as Matt walked on stage. Sorry about that. It was exciting. I'll caption it in case anyone is interested in what I was crazily shouting.

I was like 5 feet from the stage in front of Jon....rewatching this and it takes me right back there. I hit record on my phone as soon as I heard Batlows voice, but the sound is shitty. I'm sure I will frequent this video many times throughout the rest of my life.....

01:26 VERY few singers can evoke that sort of massive eruption from a crowd, but Matt Barlow is enough of a legend to do just that. I really wish I could have seen this in person.

Stu Block carries the torch as well as anyone could and better than most, but Matt Barlow will always be THE Iced Earth vocalist to me. (Tim Owens was good too but honestly they sounded like a different band during his tenure).
@@SithCats Tim was good, but really didn't get to shine because of the subject material he had to work with. Stu does a decent imitation of Tim and Matt, which is special in its own right. Matt was the soul of Iced Earth though.
If Matt hadn't come back before he was really ready, maybe when he finally did, it would've been for long haul.

Every single time I take a break form listening to Iced Earth and come back to hearing Barlow singing, I always get the chills on how amazing his voice is. And now I’ll be on an Iced Earth obsession for a while now.

I was there, toward the back, and Matt walked by me twice before later emerging onstage during I Died For You. At first I did a double-take and thought "Wait a minute, that's..." The second time, he came down the stairs from the upper deck and walked out the exit doors toward the bar/lobby a few feet away from me. He was trying to stay incognito, I think, as he would have been mobbed if everyone noticed him. Once I spotted Matt and was certain it was him, I figured he just had to be there for a guest appearance. A magnificent night and all 3 bands crushed it. (How did Lizzy Borden do that "3 masks every time he hid/revealed his face thing" anyway??? A consummate showman.) Tyr had me feeling like I should be rowing a longship. This was a metal event of generational significance in my opinion, as who knows if or when there will be another D &W tour? Felt I had to be there as I have seen IE 7 times since 2002 and BG 5 times. Psyched for the new D & W album next year! \m/ \m/
My concert buddy and I saw them in Minneapolis. It was a great night.🤘

I often shed a tear watching it on YT.. can't imagine the delight of being there. Only seen BG of the 3 bands btwn them. Sadly. Missed D&W in 2019 .... didn't know it was forever.
Oh f* yeah! Matt is my favorite singer ever. I had the opportunity to attend to an iced earth concert here in Brazil like a decade ago. Oh man!! This video brought tears to my eyes. Thanks!

Saw Iced Earth several times back in the 90ies and early 2000 with Barlow. Would almost kill to do it again. Favorit singer of all time.
I was there and probably right next to you. I was standing right along the balcony. That was an amazing show and you perfectly captured the chaos when Barlow came out. Amazing.
This is really amazing to see i wish i was actually there. Love Hansi and Matt the rest of the band too. All amazing musicians. Brings me back to the 90's.
I was lucky enough to attend the alive in athens shows that were recorder and also see them live in the Horror show tour and the one that followed Matt's return to the band.
The first two shows were simply unforgetable.
When he returned I think that he wasn't really there.
Seeing this now was just as good as it was in athens many wears ago.
His voice is even better I think and Hansi really gives a great support.

The part that starts at 2:47 is simply killer. Seeing Hansi and Matt work through those vocals was pure magic. No disrespect to any other musicians, but seeing this video really made my day. Long live Barlow, Hansi and the Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and Demons and Wizards crew.

Man, it's a shame I was in a car moving to Florida just a day or so before this. And the Playstation Theater is formerly the Best Buy Theater, where I saw Iced Earth in 2008, right up in the front row against the railing. It was honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen. I've never caught them since, partly because Matt left and life took over, but I love that he still keeps things going for the fans. He's seriously a great dude.

I got to see Iced Earth in 2018 in Baltimore. Matt came out to sing Watching Over Me. Man, it was such an emotional moment for the crowd.

Learned a few things.
1) Never record on IG live and expect the HD recording to actually work.
2) Theres a level slightly below head level where sound echos... Once its above head it sounds clear.
