  • The Bible Firsthand〚 Quest for the Original Bible 〛UIWU Conference: 2024
Embark on a historical journey with Ross K. Nichols-author, explorer, researcher, and teacher-as he unravels the fascinating progression of the Bible from modern English translations back to its ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. Presented at the UIWU 81st annual conference on April 21, 2024, this lecture explores how our cherished English Bibles are several steps removed from the original autographs they represent.
Ross challenges assumptions and invites you to question: How close can we really get to the Bible firsthand? Through a critical examination of the texts underlying time-honored translations, this lecture offers a unique perspective on the Bible's origins and its transmission through the ages. Join us for a compelling exploration that seeks the elusive "ur" texts of the Bible-engaging, enlightening, and essential viewing for anyone intrigued by the history of the world’s most influential book.

The Hebrew used even in the oldest codex. It uses Hellenistic lingo, also a lot of Aramaic and more modern Hebrew syntax more towards the macabees era. 500 or so years after it says it was written

Truly loved this video. everything is a translation of a translation of a translation of a translation, trying to get back to the original text, unfortutionally will probably never happen IMO.. Even the Dead sea scrolls are a translation. The closest one will ever get is if you can get to the AOC. the tablets should be in there but even then it will only be the ten words.. I do wish you Yah's blessings on your quest.

I love this video. If I understood Ross at the end of the video, he is encouraging people to consider the possibility that 240 OT Dead Sea Scroll (DSS) texts are closer to the original OT than anything else we have access too. However, he also mentioned 'Shapiro' which is a non-canonical OT text (some will say it's a forgery). I am trying to understand the relationship between the Shapiro text and the 240 DSS texts. What am I missing?

Hey Bobby. I am certainly encouraging people to consider the readings in our earliest texts (such as DSS). Wondering if you have read my book, The Moses Scroll? See themosesscroll.com.

@@RossKNicholsTV . I read about Shapira's leather strips on wiki after I watched this video. I didn't realize they were found near the Dead Sea, many years before the DSS discovery. Imo, this strongly implies they should be reconsidered as possibly being authentic. This may be the missing piece in my latest biblical origin hypothesis. I may be completely wrong but I think its possible that the info Hilkiah found (or wrote) in Josiah's days may have been the Shapira scroll. I did think it was the canonical Deuteronomy but I ruled that out. After reading the Shapira scroll, it seems plausible that this may be what he found. One reason I'm not sure about this is - it lacks the passages, which Deut contains, that gave Josiah the right to massacre the idolaters. Sorry if I am rambling. I love to research the Bible in an attempt to figure out its origins. Thanks for replying to my comment

The original bible is hidden within the OT and NT like a pearl of great value. Only the spirit of Truth can guide us into the light. Separating the words of truth from inserted lies, mistranslations, errors is the fun part. I've come to lean toward God giving the law above and beyond the 10 words to Moses because the people wanted to be like the nations around them. Just like they wanted, Judges, Kings, and Priests. I don't think God was happy it either but bore with the rebellious people until they figured out the original law was much easier.

Sorry. That is something that makes you feel good, but is complete logical fallacy. The Bible is monomyth is religious genre. It would be like if people truly worshiped Zeus.

Small clarification…Reform Judaism doesn’t let everyone in. I was almost denied conversion. We’re flexible when needed but stringent when we must be. My Tanakhim are numerous…JPS Hebrew-English, Revised JPS completed in 2023…the Michael Friedlander Tanakh from 1884…got that also…took me a lot of years…the BHS…BHL…& also the BHW. Plus Koren. Don’t limit yourself to 1 Tanakh only. Examine all the evidence you can find. I’ll continue doing the same.

Reform is noted for its broad acceptance...that was my point. It was not a criticism as much as an observation. And I assure you (I think you probably know this) that when it comes to Tanakh(s), I have nearly every version/edition. Pick your favorite and get ready to bring it on a Tanakh Tour.

If the Lie is Perfect. It must be told. How is a Lie perfect? If it completely preserves the Truth within it. Does this mean Literal is the Lie or just not the intended truth.

Book of secrets of Enoch LIII 2
You see how I wrote all works of every man, before his creation, all that is done amongst all men for all time, and none can tell or relate my handwriting, because the Lord sees all the imaginings of man, how they are vain, where they lie in the treasure-houses of the heart.
