(1945) Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II
The things I used to like
I don't like anymore.
I want a lot of other things
I've never had before.
It's just like mother says...
I sit around and mope.
Pretending I am wonderful.
And knowing I'm a dope.
I'm as restless as a willow in a windstorm,
I'm as jumpy as a puppet on a string.
I'd say that I had spring fever,
But I know it isn't spring.
I'm starry-eyed and vaguely discontented
Like a nightingale without a song to sing.
Oh, why should I have spring fever
When it isn't even spring?
I keep wishing I were somewhere else,
Walking down a strange new street.
Hearing words that I have never heard
From a girl, I've yet to meet.
I'm as busy as a spider spinning daydreams,
I'm as giddy as a baby on a swing.
I haven't seen a crocus or a rosebud
Or a robin on the wing.
But I feel so gay,
In a melancholy way,
That it might as well be spring,
It might as well be spring.
A lighter than air delivery from a bass baritone who can put you right in the mood ; now that’s true talent and versatility.A great singer.
Now I fully understand why this song is so loved ; Bryn gives it a fresh, fun quality and his voice, as always, is drop-dead gorgeous.
Following his concert in Auckland, N.Z. some years ago, I had a chance to chat with him after all the autograph seekers had left and
it was a joyful experience ; as easy and comfortable as talking to a close friend or family member. Not a hint of conceit or superiority.
Never heard this from Bryn. I'll never forget it either. Incredible rendition with fun and precision. Beautiful sound.
Impeccable enunciation. Words are so clear. And of course, very fine singing.
Beautiful operatic rendition of this great song from State Fair 1945. Composed by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Thankyou.
I love how he combines his acting ability with his voice to give his presentation that something extra that even had the conductor amused.
What a fantastic arrangement. Love the words he sings staccato. Always wonderful from Sir Bryn Terfel.
I've been watching almost daily. It is delightful.
Magnificent voice and singer.
Epic voice and an epic rendition. Thank you for sharing. Peace & Blessings.
what a pity not many has seen this. it can give me spring fever any time of the year. what a masterpiece, in such a light-heart nonchalant fashion! totally cool!
Bravo,
This is from the best consert Terfel ever have given, that is my tast. It was before he startet with the great dramatic parts….
Beautiful
Favorite song
I discovered Bryn on RUclips. He is a magnificent bus baritone. Thanks RUclips.
Linda Watkin Terfel sonha a wonderful melody from "Allegro"(a fellow needs a girl).seek for it.
Bryn forever.
Excellent
I generally prefer a more melancholy rendition of this song, but this was terrific.
From "State Fair". Love to play this on the piano with jazz improvisations too. Good to hear this fine version.
Jonas Kaufmann in one of his interviews talks about perhaps doing some schlagers because they're beautifu and quite difficult, he says. Here we have Bryn Terfel put his stamp on a delightful song of yesteryear. Thanks youl
Isn't it? I never thought a guy's singing could fit this song so greatly.
Omg how Beautiful!
Che meraviglia ! Che sogno ascoltarlo dal vivo , magari a Bologna o al comunale di Ferrara. Oppure sulle Dolomiti.
Wonderful performance.
Love his facial expressions!
Just wonderful! I love this guy! And, Ed Stutsman, you are correct, sir!!!
Such a great voice. He was wonderful in this year's new production of Wagner's Ring Cycle.
I want it to be spring!
It's close! Such different interpretations that it is almost a different song.
Three elements: Great voice, fabulous musicianship and lastly the English language. That's odd in a way because I believe his first language is Welsh. Geraint Evans sang G&S whereas Terfel sing R&H. Lucky for us. America has produced more great baritones that any other nation over the last century but Merrill, Milnes or Warren were never this good with G&H. Yes, we're lucky.
Like the first time you hear the words
Good pop rendition by an opera singer.
❤️
You cannot comment or criticize, what a person does is very personal,,, but you can enjoy. And do enjoy!
❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bass baritone
They should make a new Zulu film and stick Bryn in it! It has to honour the Zulu correctly this time though!
Se è uno scherzo non è di buon gusto
I liked Mel Torme better in this!
