Avi said in his q&a after the premiere of his video that there was some organ and percussion, but the vocals were all him- the harmonies, the bass line, all of that was him!

Avi has one of the most amazing voices. It does not matter what end of his range he is at, he is smooth as silk. There is none of that "growl" which just means the singer is as low as he can go. Avi hits it every time, always strong and clear.

I’ve seen the handful of pro singers, vocal coaches, etc react to this vid and otherside, and yeah...he can sing, his tone is so developed, his choice of how to do any given convenient or vowel. Yeah. This man can sing.

Avis always had pipes and sonwriting skills. Back before PTX he was writing and performing in coffee shops. He was never a pop artist, always folk type music so as hes breaking away and going back there i think its really going to be a great ride. I cannot wait to see .what he does next

Insightful comments. This song is primal...his voice sounds so different, so beautiful and powerful. He was always magnificent, but this new Avi has taken it up quite a few notches.
I know! He’s actually (in my opinion) a lot better as a soloist... he can show his style and skill more and that’s something I’m happy he can share with us all!

But he's so versatile. Aberdeen brings in a little old time cowboy sound, but it's still mountain music. Not bluegrass, not country, not really traditional folk, but a little of each. Something new! Close to the earth mountain music! I'm loving it!

That's exactly what I thought the first time I heard this. I pictured it in an episode of Son's of Anarchy.
Pairs very well with Ragn'Bones Man's "Human".
Oh and BTW ...he hosted an online premiere and one of the questions was about vocals and I struments. He said the is some percussion and an organ. All the rest is him.

Bass voices do not mature until men are in their thirties. Avi has a few more years before his voice reaches its full potential. In the two years since he left PTX, the change is already very noticeable. Imagine what he he sound like in another couple years.
callie cat Avi is in his 30’s 😂 he’s also a trained opera singer and has worked a bit with Tim Foust to reach his lower ranges with little vocal fry, so it’s not that his voice has necessarily changed as much as he has found himself... I knew he wouldn’t stay with PTX for too long because he’s not a pop guy he’s always been a folk, woodsy, natural guy and he got lost being in PTX. After leaving he traveled the world because sometimes you have to get lost to find yourself again. If more humans would reconnect to their inner natural man and spend time getting lost in nature we could make amazing changes to how we think, act, react, and how we treat one another. I’m grateful for losing myself in this same way because the true self is returning to the surface and the other is dissipating into the nothingness that always was. The awakening is the best thing for one’s mind, body, and soul!
I like your take on the change thing, however when you say you "did not know Avi could sing like that" (I get it btw) but I would not bet money against any PTX member former or current being able to "do that" . (whatever style or technique) The talent pool of all of them is pretty deep and pretty diverse.
Thank you for this reaction...the power and emotion is so amazingly beautiful. It's definitely "fire he can breathe".. All the background vocals are Avi...the harmonies, the Bass line, the deep bass growl every 4th beat. Just a small amount of organ and a little tamborine...he revealed this in the after premier chat. His other EP Avriel & the Sequoias and this music is music he loves folk music
