  • This week, we're touring my sister's new build spring garden, showing what she's planted from borders to raised vegetables. We'll film again in the summer to see the growth and progress and to see if they let me dig a new border! But if you want to see their garden last summer in its glory, I'll link the video below.
    I also went to The Garden House in Malahide for a little peek at what they had and ended up coming back with some essentials (for me!) as the seed germination hasn't gone as well as I'd hoped this year so far.
    But I'm ready to open my own tomato farm now at this point!
    What are you going to be doing in the garden this week?

    Your sister's garden is looking great! Thank you for the tour. I agree with you on houseplants - it seems as though a person is good at either houseplants or outdoor plants, but rarely both.
    Love the garden center visit! And the plants you have germinating look like they're doing well!

    Apple trees need at least 8 hours of sun per day. If I’m understanding, your sister’s spot by the wall is a shade garden. I’m the granddaughter of an apple Orchardist. 🍎🍏

    I think your shade loving plant (near the shed) is an Astilbe as I have one with the white blooms.

    Greeting's from the midlands, Nice video of your sister's garden, I planted raspberry's year's ago and I have a deal with my dogs and the birds who both love raspberry's. Just leave enough for me and my wife. They are easy to grow just dig a hole throw them in and up they will come every year.

    I can grow just about anything outdoors, but I am on the struggle bus with my succulents indoors. I bought one from the store that had unfortunately had powdery mildew that I didn’t notice at first, and it quickly spread. I’ve finally chucked them all outside. If they survive, great. I still have an aloe vera, wandering Jew, calathea and an African milk plant (cactus) indoors doing well. I would need to start over completely with succulents.

    It is so funny that so many people can grow succulents even if they can't grow other houseplants. I am the opposite I can grow most houseplants but succulents tend to die -- even Jade plants. I would like to know about the best soil to use and when or when not to water --looking forward to the video.

    Lovely garden area. I am afraid those tree roots will outgrow the small area in one or two seasons. Tree roots need a lot of room to grow. Too close to the wall and the other trees. I know they look small now, but in no time, they will be growing into each other and the wall.

    Joanne's garden is lovely! Any kind of video is wonderful, I do love the chatty ones too. They feel like I'm there visiting with a friend. You don't need a particular reason to go to a garden center, any reason is acceptable. My favorite reason is "just because " : ). Some of my seeds have been slow to germinate, hang in there. I'm sure your sunny days will wake them up.

    Hello dear lady! I enjoy seeing you tackle the mundane garden tasks! Your videos often remind me of things I need to tend to in my own garden. In January, for my 72nd birthday, I decided to go roller skating! I was up on my roller skates for all of 10 seconds when I fell and fractured both wrists. I'm healing well and have planted seeds (thank you for the inspiration); I'm waiting for seedlings. My gardening may be curtailed a bit this season, but a little is better than none. Have a lovely sunny weekend!

    I know what you mean 2 days of sun. North Texas rained 3 1/2 inches, no sun and the temperature dropped from 84F last week to 57F this week. The raised beds with the tomatoes would be so easy to add temporary "greenhouse" with light row cover to conserve the heat and help plants recover. (it is really early for tomatoes) Fruit trees would easily train to Espalier on the wall. Love pot plants on patio. Idea of extending the patio with small corner bed will create interest and space. Ginkgo tree is so pretty. Thanks for the adventure you two. Watching your precious baby so cute. Hope you have a good day.

    Hostas in a flower bed is like playing Russian roulette with snails and slugs. I’ve never succeeded in growing them outside of pots for that reason.

    • @suziejames7510
      @suziejames7510 2 месяца назад

      Hi there, I have 4 hostas in my Borders that used to get devoured by slugs until I heard somewhere that if you put plenty of gravel round the base of the plant the slugs won't cross it. Tried it last year and hooray my hostas survived intact. I've put a bit more round this year so hopefully my hostas will survive again. ❤

    • @eastcoast4233
      @eastcoast4233 2 месяца назад +1

      @@suziejames7510 glad it has worked for you, sadly my slugs seem to be immune and happily cross grit and gravel. No idea why the difference. Always worth trying but for me it wasn’t successful even when was a large width and quite sharp pieces. Shrugs.

    • @suziejames7510
      @suziejames7510 2 месяца назад +1

      What a pity it didn't work, obviously you've got slugs that that are more determined than mine. I maybe should have said that the part of the garden where the hostas are are on the edge of a rockery where all the soil is covered with gravel so maybe that's why.

    • @eastcoast4233
      @eastcoast4233 2 месяца назад +1

      @@suziejames7510 that’s a thought though, I had never considered incorporating them into a wider rocky anti-slug (lol) arrangement. I’ll give it some thought. Thanks.

    Well I was shocked, we had the sunny warm weekend, yay! 🌞 Lovely garden, I've an acer like that at 06:38 and my one is Acer Katsura. I don't know the purple Acer. Around 8.04 mark, that's definitely Foamflower, I love it ❤ I seen them in a salvage yard, of all places lol, Just took a photo on the phone and can search images with google. Went straight to garden centre and got one, now I've 3. I love your videos, great humour, attitude, I like vlogs, tours, make-up or beauty, reviews, how to's and ups and downs with garden, its all good. Inspirational ❤

    Oh I would have given you raspberry runners - but you didn´t ask. 😁They are taking over (especially the summer ones) - but I love raspberries and they are so expensive at the store - so all is good. It is so cold in Germany - so no gardening for me at the moment. Isn´t it just so fun to see the little seedlings come up? Have a nice week! 💕🌷💕

    I don’t think cotton wool is a good idea for birds as they can get their feet tangled in it. I like a weekly video, already suffering withdrawal from Catherine going down to once a week 😆. I love the hydrangea with the red leaves, going to look out for that.

    The plant you were asking about beside the shed is Astilbe ! Unfortunately Eucalyptus trees are not suitable for small-medium gardens as they grow to a height of 25m and 12m wide! They need to be kept small by pruning regularly! You’re doing great at your seed planting and I’m so envious of your Ammi majus seedlings! I never see them in the garden centre to buy! Great video!
