    Loucous originally from Scotland but most of my life in Sydney and nearly 4 years in Thailand. Scots Gaelic has similar words to Irish Gaelic. so in order from the top of that notice board: Pog Mo Than= stick it up ........; Slante pronounced Slange is the short version for cheers , there is actually another couple of small words that accompany Slante; Failte this means welcome

    Slainte (slawn-cheh) is cheers, failte (fawl-cheh) is welcome and pog mo thoin (poh-g mawh hown) is kiss my arse. It is very much an Irish American pub/restaurant as opposed to a traditional Irish pub. Having said that it looks great and I wish him well with it. The pouring of the Guinness needs a little work, it has to settle before being topped off. I hope to visit it some day. Great vlog Lucas, thanks!

    As for the licence plate signs in the pub...
    You're right, Galway and Killarney are places in Ireland.
    Sláinte (pronounced slawn-sha) means health in Irish, and is the equivalent of saying cheers with a drink.
    Fáilte (pronounced fall-sha) means welcome in Irish.
    Póg mo thóin (pronounced pogue ma hoen) means kiss my arse in Irish.

    When I was in Germany I got a box of 50 King Edwards for less than the price of that one cigar from the PX. With that location and that size of establishment he's going to need the tourist bus trade to keep afloat I think. It's not the haunt of a normal mongers bar, and you will need a Bolt there and back. Prices seem a bit high on certain products, and how is he going to keep all those speciality beers at those prices? Slow sellers. That shepherds pie reminded me of when I got married and my wife cooked me shepherds pie the first time, and the look she gave me when I said where's the chips?

    Good selection of food and good selection at the bar. I believe part of the price of the cigars is the import/customs fee. That $30 stick is around $8-10 here in the states. A true cigar lounge would have oversize/overstuffed leather chairs. And being in Thailand perhaps see about getting some repurposed teak with a nice dark stain for the wall vs the frosted glass. Just my humble opinion.

    • @theotheleo6830
      @theotheleo6830 2 года назад

      Per the menu, they are Cubans, and if those sticks are genuine, you can't get them (legally) in the states. So, no, they're not $8 -$10.

    • @ralphlewis6773
      @ralphlewis6773 2 года назад

      @@theotheleo6830 you are correct. Some are less than $8.00
      As I eluded to, the cost could be because of the import taxes and customs fees. Yes, the menu states Cuban, but there are also nonCuban from Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo as well. Below is a breakdown of the Cuban cigars on the menu.
      Guantanamera Decimos 5.25” (134mm) X 38 ring $2.90 100 baht
      Guantanamera Cristales 5.90” (150mm) X 41 ring $3.90 135 baht
      Bolivar Coronas Junior 4.30” (110mm) X 42 ring $8.36 290 baht
      Romeo y Julieta Romeo No. 2 5.10” (129mm) X 42 ring $6.90 240 baht
      Montecristo No. 4 5.10” (129mm) X 42 ring $11.80 409 baht
      When I caught a glimpse of the menu, Romeo y Julieta stood out as I know of that brand as well as Montecristo. There are nonCuban varieties with various binders, fillers and wrappers. Mostly Dominican, Indonesian, Nicaraguan, and Ecuador.
      I'm sure if one was to shop around that the prices will vary. These prices were just from one supplier.

    • @theotheleo6830
      @theotheleo6830 2 года назад +1

      @@ralphlewis6773 Thanks for all the work you put into your reply. Not to be argumentative, but Romeo's and Montecristo's are manufactured in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. US buyers are restricted to purchasing the Dominican made cigars. But since Thailand doesn't have a trade embargo with Cuba, these may possibly be genuine Cuban sticks. If so, those are good prices, from my perspective anyway, since I can't get a hold of any.

It looked like a barn with tables and chairs, like it was designed to a brief written by someone who's never been in a pub anywhere ever, especially Ireland. The food looked ok but some of the prices I saw were completely off the wall. London has a reputation for having the highest rip-off prices for food and drink anywhere in the world, but some of the prices I spotted were way higher than London. It's on my list of "To Avoid". I really love Route 66, very happy to see he's doing well enough to build a new place!

    That pub is about as Irish as Udon Thani. Derogatory name, owned by an Englishman and looks nothing like any pub in Ireland.

      Agreed, the term ''plastic pub'' comes to mind, and the snug looks more like a holding cell in some police station (so I've been told!). Route 66 looked great with a good menu, this (unfortunately) doesn't.

      Exactly. Just like Panda Express is "Chinese" food. Its not, and really only caters to the natives in the US

      @@conancol7556 I'm curious Conan, like other Irish pubs where? The only one I've been in LOS was Murphy's Law when it was being run your man. That was a proper pub.

    Ireland is a wonderful place to visit. It's a good approximation of a traditional Irish pub, but the newness of the building actually breaks the motif. The food looked good. The girl pouring the Guinness could use a little training...there is actually a correct way to pour one (or any good Irish stout, I personally prefer Murphy's). Good spot, though, and I would definitely visit. Great vid as always.

    Will be there next month and will be visiting it for sure with a couple of Irish friends, we are all from Cork City southern Ireland. Saints prounced Slannteh literally means good luck/very best of health to you..Fáilte,pronounced foiltehh simply means Welcome..Pig mo thóin equals kiss my ass but not in a derogatory way lol, it's a compliment really..I think Vee and her friend Mika love 50% Thai and 50% Irish. Put it all together and they are "Thairish"..thanks for such a interesting video Loucous, will definitely be trying the Guinness and the Irish stew. By the way my friends and I jokingly refer to the Guinness as "The blonde in the black dress" 😃 😀 😄
