I am ever more grateful that you continue to provide these lectures for free especially now that you have a paid membership offering . Because I live on Social Security and a budget that never gets me through the month I have no spare money to begin to afford to pay for this priceless information. Fasting is a necessity to make it until the next check arrives, hence my happy silver lining. Thank you for continuing to provide this education when I'm fully aware it is not free to you to provide it. God Bless you Dr. Bikman for your generosity. 🙏

Just stop eating and cook yourself in a sauna and you'll be healthy!!! lol. Stop following guru's that are pushing chronic stress as the way to health. Look up Ray Peat and bioenergetics instead. There, you'll learn how to actually support the body, not work against it, and thrive.

Great info to include in a playlist I'm compiling for motivation to do a long fast after having slipped back to processed foods from a carnivore diet (near 3 years) for 5 weeks from a high stress family situation. Amazed how rapidly I became inflamed and how easily adipose tissue returned. I couldn't find my words and breathing became labored too. Back to carnivore and OMAD for one week (just sardines and beef) and inflammation is down, lungs don't feel restricted and brain function is returning.

What an interesting lecture! You have a gift for teaching in a very simple and clear, straightforward way, thank you so much for that, all your lectures are a treat for both the ears and the brain!
Studying phytopharmacy and revisiting physiology these holidays, this channel has appeared at the right time, as the ECM is my favourite area and key, I believe, to true cure.
Having spent ten years on vegan macrobiotics that has driven my diabetes away, I am now exploring ketogenic dietary principles. What attracted me to keto is the absence of sugar (have been living fully sugar-free for the last 20 years). Since i retained insulin control on unrefined-carbs-loaded diet, I'm trying to find the missing link :)
Dr. Bikman, please keep on posting - you're one of the best contemporary lecturers, keep up the good work!
All the best in the New 2025!!! ✨🪷

67 year old male on a keto diet have a 18 hour fasting window and 6 hr eating window daily. Have no MS symptoms after 23 years of suffering. Now have slow growing prostate cancer that urologist is monitoring. Do you think two 3 day fasts a month are better or one 6 or day fast? Do you get deeper autophagy by going longer than 3 days or is autophagy benefits the same over longer fasts.

    • @brentbrouwer6135
      @brentbrouwer6135 День назад

Long? 30 days is quite long. I think there is a sweet spot, a U shaped curve. Too little is not good nor is too much. The longest on record was more than 400 days. Muscle wasting is the down side of too much fasting but you sound like you have a handle on that, especially since you are monitoring your power. Keep an eye on that, Potassium, Mg. and so forth.

Efferocytosis vs autophagy. Which one do you like more? Intracellular recycling vs elimination of apoptotic bodies of aging, dying, and precancerous cells?
In your opinion, with regards to foam cells, is this a function of an overload of macrophagic efferocytosis of oxidized LDL that then collect in damaged endothelium of artery vasculature(from HTN and inflammation).
Also does low insulin result in increased efferocytosis? Intuitively, I suspect it does.
If you think a talk on metabolism and efferocytosis is warranted, I'm all ears.

  • @johnx9318
    @johnx9318 15 часов назад

I thought that macrophages were free-form immune system entities that operated outside of the other cells.
I also thought that their purpose was to eliminate and recycle damaged whole cells.
Your discussion states that autophagy occurs within a cell.
How would a macrophage enter a cell wall to clean up inside a cell?
How would it get out when it was finished?

      *Copied from another commenter...
      Autophagy
Autophagy is a cellular process where your
body cleans out damaged cells and regenerates new ones. It's like your body's
way of recycling and repairing itself3. This process is essential for maintaining cellular health and can be triggered by various factors, including fasting, exercise, and
      calorie restriction.
      Benefits of Autophagy:
Cellular repair: Helps remove damaged cells and promote the growth of new, healthy cells.
Disease prevention: May reduce the risk of diseases like cancer, neurodegenerative
      disorders, and infections,
      Longevity: Some studies suggest that
autophagy can contribute to a longer lifespan.
      Triggers for Autophagy:
      Fasting or intermittent fasting
      Exercise
      Calorie restriction
      Certain medications and therapies

Ketosis is a metabolic state where your body burns fat for energy instead of glucose. This happens when your carbohydrate intake is very low, prompting your liver to produce ketones from fats. These ketones then serve as an alternative energy source for your body and brain. Ketosis is often achieved through a ketogenic (keto) diet, which is high in fats, moderate in proteins, and very low in
      carbohydrates.
      Benefits of Ketosis:
Weight loss: Many people use the keto diet for weight loss
Increased energy: Some people report higher
      energy levels
Improved mental clarity: Ketones can provide
a steady energy source for the brain
Potential health benefits: It may help manage conditions like type 2 diabetes and epilepsy
      Signs of Ketosis:
      Bad breath
      Weight loss
Increased ketones in blood, urine, or breath
      Appetite suppression
      Temporary fatigue
      Digestive issues
