Adrian Barbu he was messing around with a gun and said it wouldn’t fire a bullet because it was in the magazine or something but he didn’t realize there was a bullet in the chamber, and he shot himself trying to show it wouldn’t fire.

The biggest takeaway I have from Tiger King is that you should never underestimate the power of public relations. Call your zoo a zoo and you’re abusing the animals; call it a “rescue” and you’re saving them. Have your employees work long hours for low pay and you’re taking advantage of them; have them work for nothing and you’re giving them an opportunity... oh, and avoid conspiracy to commit murder.
Except for the fact that Joes zoo abused and killed his tigers, whereas Antle killed his cubs after they were past their cub stage. Carole’s zoo is actually the most innocent place with no allegations of animal abuse (except for the murder of her husband)

Everyone affiliated with this zoo appears to be either insane or involved with some kind of illegal activity. Joe wanted Carol dead, allegedly tried to make it happen, and then his staff testified against him. She killed her husband for the money.
The real victims here are the poor animals. In the first episode, someone mentioned finding tiger bodies buried outside who appeared to have been shot, and there was another allegation of healthy tiger cubs being gassed (not by Joe) :(

This was an amazing summary, all the key elements in such a short time period. Makes you realize how this 7 hour series could’ve been condensed to like a 2 hour movie and it would’ve been more than enough

Thanks for the summary. Had no real interest in watching the show myself but at least now I know what everyone's talking about. Seems my estimation of the show was about right: modern "documentary" (read reality TV) series about awful people being awful to each other and probably mistreating animals in the process. Saddens me that people gobble this stuff up.

No one here will listen probably, but Big Cat Rescue is a designated sanctuary, not a zoo. The animals at the sanctuary have been surrendered by people that can no longer care for them. The alternative for these animals is euthanasia. They do provide tours for *small groups* of people to a *limited number* of enclosures. The smallest permanent enclosure they have is 1200+ sqft. Unless you've been to Big Cat Rescue, you may be tempted to think that they're as bad as the rest, but that's not the case.
However, Carole Baskin is definitely guilty of fashion crimes and personal jury is still out on the murder of her husband. But, she's not abusing big cats, so... that's something.

Another note is that their channel has a long documented history of their cats and their origin. Side from that they've used their funds for surgeries, enrichment items, etc. Their cage sizes range from 1200 square feet to 2.5 arches for their largest cats.
I think what separates BCR the most from everyone else is that they do not breed or exploit cubs. Thinking about it now I wished Carole went after Joe's cats instead of his assets 🤔

Also, on the note of not paying the staff, that's a 100% fair criticism and if that's what everyone was complaining about, I would say have at it. She should pay the volunteers more than a stipend.

I wished I watched this instead of the whole series.
One big thing that was left out about Carole is the fact that she abandoned Big Cat Rescue when Hurricane Irma came through head on, leaving all of those beautiful cats to just fend for themselves. She had offers from multiple people, including Joe and Jeff Lowe, who ran sanctuaries and so forth with the know-how, the trailers, and the room to evacuate those cats well before Irma made landfall, but she turned everyone away, telling them she was staying with the cats, only to turn around and run, with all of her "staff". Four of those cats came from my neck of the woods in Ohio, just outside of Toledo, so although it may be possible that those she had owned a lot longer may have been used to all types of Florida weather, I can promise you, those four have never been through anything like a hurricane. And where they came from, each one that Carole now has had secure enclosures for them here in Ohio, just in case of severe weather. We had a major breakout here in 2010 of tornadoes, overnight in June, but they were not really close to where three of the four cats lived. It was a horrible storm though, either way, and all three took cover in their enclosures and were fine. The fourth, previously known as Emily, who has been renamed "Saffire" by Carole, wasn't even here yet when the tornados touched down, so her first taste of potentially dangerous weather was Hurricane Irma. She should have lost everything for leaving those cats behind like that. F**k Carole.
Please cite your sources. Your story about hurricane Irma is not true. If you don't believe me go to Bigcatrescue.org and you will see videos on how they prepared for it and how staff, which remained on property, kept watch continually and in person. I watched them myself in real time. They have successfully survived other hurricanes over the years. Their enclosures are spacious and designed to withstand high winds. Their dens are sturdy and reinforced. Go and see for yourself and stop confabulating.

Big Cat Rescue doesn't breed cats they rescue them from circuses and roadside zoos. I'm not defending Carole, she still killed her husband. But the sanctuary is actually helpful.

@@AriCagan If I remember correctly, before BCR she had some kind of wildcat outfit where there was cub/kitten petting or some kind of guest contact. She eventually realized the harm in it, she said, and stopped the breeding, claiming her husband wanted it to continue. But when he'd be out of town, she says she would get the cats spayed.
Haven't watched TK (mostly because I don't have Netflix atm), only go by synopses and evidence/data/news articles, but honestly the only beings I hurt for or feel sorry for in this whole ordeal are the animals, and no one else.
If you watched the show you'll know the husband deserved it though

It's good that she actively goes after the big cat breeders but the whole husband thing kind of kills it for me.
(It's also why those same guys say she's "trying to have all the cats" (because she is the most vocal about it) it's manipulative. They *know* if that act is passed, they'd have to kiss all their money goodbye.)

I think it's more of the intrigue of bizarre people that makes people enjoy the show.
The premise of "Tiger King" is a murder mystery/crime story set in the world of big, whacked-out cat owners. In other words: Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll. The different story strings are deliberately kept open-ended and intertwined, so more seasons/episodes will follow. A person missing for twenty years (possibly a victim of a crime of some sort) and a former big cat owner in prison for twenty years is a recipe for a never-ending story.
I don’t wanna be that person but the “woman” who got his arm bitten off is actually trans and goes by he/him. Unfortunately the documentary did Saff wrong (just wanted to letcha know!!)
