- St.Vincent is a Grammy-winning artist known for her ability to be a bit of a chameleon on each of her records and a virtuoso musician. On her latest album Daddy's Home, she's channeling 70’s New York, and bands like Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan.
And while she’s channeling all these great musicians, she’s also revealing her own story too. On this new album Daddy's Home, she delves into her father's prison sentence for stock manipulation. This was all happening in 2010, right when St.Vincent’s career was taking off in a big way. She would go visit him in prison and people would be asking her for autographs.
In 2019, her father was released from prison.
And now St. Vincent is reflecting on this experience on her sixth studio album.

She's somebody you'd have a great convo with at a pub and never see again.
You know, the best kind of person?
lol i always end up being that person unfortunately
It's amazing watching her evolve as an artist. From the 1rst album to now she sounds almost like an entirely different artist but in an organic way and also not losing her unique character and personality that's she's always brought to her music from the start .
Annie’s like everyone’s cool aunt with a killer record collection. This is clearly her most personal album yet and it feels like such a breakthrough moment for her ♡
Loved your video about her !
Aunt? Can we go..cousin? Too young (and super cool) for aunt....
@@a.michaeledwards7642 fair enough!
She needs to have a baby or two ASAP.
Every time that you listen to Daddy’s Home, you love it even more. Steely Dan albums had the same effect. “ I like the color pallet” so spot on.
can't believe that between all the shows she could have chosen to talk about audiences singing back, she chose the show that I went in a club in Brasil... now I'll think of that every time my cold heart needs some warmness
This was way above your average.
Thanks very much, both oh u!
Cheers from Portugal
So happy to hear a discussion beyond the q and a of most other interviewers...for example, the reference to Jack Antonov....well known to other musicians but not necessarily so in the public eye as others. I remember my intro to him was through Tegan and Sara who consistently have managed to work with the best.
Trying to branch out into newer groups and artists. Thank you for introducing Annie to me. Love all the bands she draws on...and look forward to vibing to her groove.
Amazing interview once again, Q is the best
This is such a great interview! Also didn't think I could love Annie any more than I already do but then she mentions Joseph Campbell and *swoon*
