I really don't get why a lot of people are saying this is her weakest album; I feel that it's a lot better than her self-titled album. My favourites are still Strange Mercy and Actor.
I happen to have the Vinyl Me Please edition of this album. The colors of the sleeve and record itself are reversed. And though TheNeedleDrop, AKA Anthony Fantano happen to be more critical of this record, and I do get most of my recommendations from him, I happen to really enjoy it myself. Pretty much from first listen I really enjoyed the instrumentals and lyrics of this album, and the flow as well. The pressing of the VMP copy I have sounds really good, and no warps on my copy either. Really enjoyed this review can't wait for more long form videos of reviews from you in the future, hopefully.
Oh this is something special ... i klicked on a life show of her and its very original , very arty stuff i enjoy !!! Merry Christmas to the geek and crew !!!!
Love the track by track review format! This album might be AOTY, easily in my top 3, St Vincent is one of my favorite artists so I had high hopes and man she did not disappoint, Smoking Section, and Young Lover are up there with some of her best songs imo. I got the deluxe pressing and was pretty satisfied with it, but if I could go back in time I probably would've went with the standard, love the pink color and the blue sleeve!
1) You deserve more subscribers 2) You gotta dig into her older material. I was kinda disappointed with Masseduction, especially coming off her self titled, which is probably my absolute favorite
I just want to note what you stated as "slide guitar" is much more than just some bottleneck, it's pedal steel guitar. Not only that it's Greg Leisz (one of the best steel players out there) and Rich Hinman (who worked with Vulfpeck on 'El Chepe'). Great review!
Been a St. Vincent fan since her debut in 2007. Her 4th self-titled album left me a bit cold. There's the odd song I like on it ,but ,I'm liking this one a lot more. Also check out her first 3: "Marry Me' , 'Actor' & Strange Mercy'. Another album you should check out is Moonlandingz's latest 'Interplanetary Class Classics' ruclips.net/video/_xOgRp9oNCg/видео.html
You seem like the kind of guy who really like's high quality, well written and produced pop/rock. You really must look into the 70's work of 10cc. Start with How Dare You and work from there. I highly recommend you check it out with headphones. You'll be thanking me later.
Hey mate I saw your comment and I wanted to tell you about a band in a similar vein to 10cc that were around in the 70s/80s (I love 10cc by the way). For years I have wondered why they were never appreciated for their incredible musicianship and class. The band is called Japan.
The lyric in the title track is “I can’t turn off what turns me on” not “I can’t help what turns me on” 🙄 get it right, I mean you can actually hear it in the clip you chose! 4:30
I honestly do not see the appeal with this artist and specifically this album! It just all speaks self-importance and opportunism. Also the cover and photography - all that is perverse. Ew. Oh well...
I agree on the cover I didn't like it much. But mind going in deeper on why you think it all seems opportunistic and self important? I don't see that at all but i'm curious on your perspective
Happy Fuzz! well first of all I will say the that I did like the guitar solo on track 2. It was an interesting solo, kind of reminded me of Mick Karn's bass playing. However, the rest of the album falls horribly flat for me. Firstly, there is a strong appeal throughout of 'seduction'. For me, this album was always going to be a let down because generally when image is involved too much, it is often too forceful and there is a lack of subtlety - often the album becomes much less interesting. On the track Masseduction all I hear is just arbitrary, painfully irritating moaning. It's like she's playing herself up to be some kind of sex-goddess which is just not attractive at all. Maybe it is my taste that I don't like all this risque nonsense. And I'm really trying to like it having known she's worked with one of my favourite artists - David Byrne. But it's just impossible - to me it's just all image and no originality or subtlety. Every track blurts out "me!" "look at me and listen to my whimsical, seductive singing!". Typically when I listen to proper sexy I listen to Portishead. No plastic, no arses on the front cover. Just down to earth, sensual, good music. I would give a better explanation if I had time.
So basically you don't like how sexual she's being for this album, I don't really mind it, there's always this mindset that when a someone acts sexual with her stuff its somehow bad or dumb and I've never understood that, its just the style she wants to do this time around, but I can see why it might put you off from it. But there's plenty of subtly in this album, it may be hard to notice it because of how poppy it might sound but there's definently a lot going on in this album maybe even more than her pass releases. How you can get "look at me and listen to my whimsical, seductive singing!" from songs like Young Lover, New York, Smoking Section and especially Happy Birthday Johnny just astonishes me. Honestly from the looks of it you just don't like her upfront sexualness, but its making you think of the album a lot less than it is, I get its your opinion but the only problem with it is the sexual=bad mindset. Again though I see why it can be too much.

I don't think it's better than her self-titled, but it is better than her debut
Her self titled is amazing.
digging the long form Pick of the Week!
Congratulations to Torrey of CO for winning this week's pick!
I just think fear the future is not the nest or anything but you just have to embrace how dramatic it is

Listen to her 2 previous albums
Oh this is something special ... i klicked on a life show of her and its very original , very arty stuff i enjoy !!! Merry Christmas to the geek and crew !!!!
Can you review more albums of St. Vincent please.....
You should check out her albums Self-Titled, Strange Mercy and Marry Me.

That's good to hear, some folks on Discogs were saying the PVC outer sleeve arrived folded
I actually have the deluxe edition and I love it! I would imagine you can’t go wrong with either edition
You should do a vinyl rewind of 'The Doors'
Thanks for the extra info about the pressing - appreciated!
Absolutely agree with your review! I love this album!
Loving the expanded PotW!
I really love her first two records, but honestly kinda lost interest since. But those two were amazing!
1) You deserve more subscribers
2) You gotta dig into her older material. I was kinda disappointed with Masseduction, especially coming off her self titled, which is probably my absolute favorite
I will certainly go back to her older material

Yeah, that's just my semantics, in my mind, a pedal steel guitar is a slide guitar, otherwise it's a guitar played with a slide
Sounds less pop than I expected . Sounds like she does make some experimental and Rocky music then . Maybe I'll buy the CD .
Great review! Love the record, but it is not my personal favourite of hers
Yeeeeeeeeeeesss
What about Colors by Beck? We need a video about this amazing récord! Thanks!
I have a first impressions on it, you probably won't like what I have to say :\

"2/3's part" you mean the bridge ahahah

I've heard of them but I don't believe I've ever listened. I will check it out. Thanks for the tip.
How funny, I've always know of 10cc but never gave them a chance, I will now thank you
Please do a review of Melodrama by Lorde! Please! Please!
Do Ray of Light by Madonna
I like the long form pick of the week but not the record!
haha
Vinyl Rewind your great though, love the show!
The crazy thing is this arguably one of her weakest releases. The self titled album and Strange Mercy are both better IMO
Review King krule!

yes it is my opinion!
