    I'm so glad this woman exists. Personally, she is everything I love in a woman...intelligent, articulate, creative, beautiful, etc. Artistically, she is brilliant, inventive and fearless. Socially, she is a role model the pop music world desperately needs.

    You can immediately tell she has an artist soul by the second she starts to talk...is just the way she thinks, what she express and how she does express it.

    First of all thanks to Qobuz for interviewing St. Vincent and secondly, thanks for preparing some really interesting questions. This is one of the best interviews I've listened to in quite a while. It's great to see what intelligent interviews can bring out of interesting personalities like Annie Clark. Something else that struck my mind was that in the post traditional music industry times quality counts more than the opinion of a music industry rep. You have to be good to find an audience. And being good today doesn't mean that you have to be mainstream. You have to set yourself apart from the main stream and find your niche. I think St Vincent is brilliant at that. Fantastic educated and eloquent artist.

    Merci Qobuz pour ce cadeau video - surprise pop - chanteuse danseuse dessinateuse innovante - elle a contribué pour le fond et aussi (surtout) la forme au dernier modèle de chez Musicman/Sterling - une magnifique réussite, prodigieuse oeuvre d'art et régal musical : cette femme semble être habitée, comme sont certains créateurs, ce que je partage, en même temps que le choix de ses instruments (je joue aussi sur une Hagstrom et une Sterling (AL-40, noire comme la sienne)... c'est marrant cette coïncidence... - choix de guitares plutôt rares ailleurs - conjonction de planètes ?

    I'd disagree that no one has been able to imitate Hendrix' sound. No one has been able to do enough with an imitation of Hendrix' sound to distance it from Hendrix. The power chord sound of Kinks ceased to belong to the Kinks when Pete Townshend got a hold of it, and the Ramones compressed it even further, and many have been able to do their own thing with that sound. But with Hendrix' sound it's hard to express anything other than "I think Jimi Hendrix is cool" because Hendrix already said so much with that sound.

    "Nobody as a popstar has gotten as good as Michael Jackson." Katy Perry has gotten five number one singles out of one album, a record previously held only by Michael Jackson. Some of this generation hold her in higher regard than him. We will see how time treats them.

    • @chrismmmckeee
      @chrismmmckeee 10 лет назад +7

      There's not even a comparison. Katy Perry doesn't write her own songs (most of her hits are written, or co-written by Bonnie Mckee or Max Martin). Michael Jackson did write most of his music. He not only wrote the lyrics but he wrote the music arrangements for some of his greatest hits. She's a pretty good singer but she's nowhere near the artist Jackson was. Being popular and being better aren't the same thing. Sure, she may be more popular with some of the kids at the moment, but that doesn't speak to who's the better artist.

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 10 лет назад

      Christopher McKee
      1) If Bad were credited the way Teenage Dream was then every one of Michael Jackson's writing credits would have been shared with Quincy Jones and others.
      2) Artistry was not under discussion. Annie Clark said "Nobody as a popstar has gotten as good as Michael Jackson." Number of hit singles on an album is a direct comparison of popstars, and Katy Perry matches Michael Jackson on it.

    • @chrismmmckeee
      @chrismmmckeee 10 лет назад +3

      Just for the sake of argument, what do you mean by "good" then? Huge record sales and hit singles do not necessarily mean good. There are plenty of bad hit songs. What you're actually saying is that Katy Perry is more popular right now than Michael Jackson, which at the moment might be true and like you said, history will tell us who lasts longer.
      But what I think Annie is saying, and I agree, is that no pop star has gotten as "good," which means that no one has hit the level of artistry with their craft that Michael Jackson did. Here's a link to demo of Michael Jackson singing every instrument on "beat it" so that he could explain to the rest of his band how to play it- lacienegasmiled.tumblr.com/post/77598143356/demo-of-beat-it-composed-using-only-michael
      Whatever messed up things he did in his personal life, he was absolutely brilliant. Katy Perry is talented but she can't do that.

    • @thescowlingschnauzer
      @thescowlingschnauzer 10 лет назад

      Christopher McKee I've made very clear statements rooted in fact, none of which is "Katy Perry is better than Michael Jackson." You keep coming at me with this vague, subjective notion of artistry. You enjoy Michael Jackson's music? Good for you! You don't enjoy Katy Perry's music? Sucks for you. Now do you have anything to say that's bigger than what you like and don't like?

    • @chrismmmckeee
      @chrismmmckeee 10 лет назад +2

      Maybe I'm wrong, but wasn't your original comment contesting Annie Clark's claim that "Nobody as a pop star has gotten as good as Michael Jackson"? When I read your comment, it seemed like you were saying that that's not necessarily true, giving the example of Katy Perry breaking Michael's record of number 1 singles from an album and also stating that she's currently more popular with certain people at the moment. My point is that your argument is actually about popularity which isn't what Annie is talking about. When she says "no one has gotten as good" she is clearly speaking about artistry; about her personal taste. She didn't say "no one has gotten as popular as Michael," or "no one has broken as many records as Michael."
      Ok, yes, taste is subjective and maybe I went too far in trying to prove why I think my taste is better than yours. But your original comment still doesn't make sense considering the word "good" in this context clearly describes quality not quantity and has nothing to do with number 1 singles or record sales.
