Just so you're aware, Nidavelir is a Dyson Sphere which is a device that captures the entire energy output of a star at any given point and channels that energy for other purposes - like melting raw uru ingots. This is worth mentioning because that means Thor was taking the full force of the star, focussed into that tiny beam. Which makes sense since Eitri exactly states that's exactly what was gonna happen. I've never understood why so many people will argue black and blue against this when it's straight up stated by the guy who literally operates Nidavelir for a living... or used to anyway.
Secondly, it actually takes several minutes to melt the uru (I'm pretty sure Eitri explains this too), it's just that there's a time-skip in between where the scene cuts away to other characters for a bit.

I don't play video games but if GOW Thor is based on the Norse version then I'd definitely go with him. Norse Thor was savage and brutal with zero morals or issues with killing anything or anyone.

It’s only confirmed Thor was a red head and that Mjolnir is extremely heavy, not enchanted. GOW Thor is extremely accurate to Myth, a red head, fat, very brawny, Mjolnir is like in myth, very heavy and also in how it looks. The only thing different is that Thor in myth is a person with a good heart, he valued on everyone, even slaves who worked hard, he was a hero in their eyes just like Heracles. But apart from that, GOW Thor is very accurate

It is actually hard to tell which version of Thor is stronger.
On one hand, god of war Thor is powerful enough to take attacks from Kratos and dish out attacks that gave Kratos a hard fight. This Thor even sent Jormungandr back in time with his strikes, wiped out most of the giants, and could still fight somewhat when he was drunk. This version of Thor doesn't think things through, can be outsmarted, and is less effective in battle when he fights drunk, which he usually was during the Norse saga of god of war. Also, spoiler alert...Kratos did defeat Thor in their second fight, but chose to spare him to give Thor and himself the chance to be better gods.
MCU Thor is clearly nerfed from his comic book counterpart, but he is strong enough to fight multiple frost giants, has much fighting experience, took the force of neutron star, and came closest to stopping infinity war Thanos when he had all of the infinity stones, but failed due to ego. MCU Thor is arguably the strongest avenger, but he can be deceived and he does let his ego get the better of him.
I honestly think that both versions of Thor can give each other a good fight, and have strengths and weaknesses that work for and against each other. I honestly agree that god of war Thor can defeat his MCU counterpart.

Just a minor correction....Thor aint the strongest....that title of strongest belongs to Hulk, but people won't know because he is super nerfed in the movies. Don't be deceived, in comics Hulk and Hercules is actually leaps and bounds over Thor in strength

MCU Thor - Him with the Stormbreaker was able to deflect the beam from the Infinity Stones which includes the Power Stone, a stone used by a celestial to wipe out the surface of a planet which is a Multi-Continental to Moon Level DC (Destructive Capacity) & The Stormbreaker at least was able to withstand the beam with other stones being constituent which is about a Moon Level Durability & thus AP (Attack Potency) from the Stormbreaker , Thor himself was able to withstand a force of a neutron star which gives him at least Star Level Durability & thus his AP as well now those are able some of MCU Thor's high-end feats now we move on to GoW Thor
First off, WIth the Yggdrasil being at least AT LEAST a Multiversal construct not to mention that it surpasses space-time, although it is quite convoluted whether they meant for it to be 3D/4D/5D/6D... Finite-D space-time or all possible real coordinate space & time excluding the platonic concept of space-time to further elaborate the former would mean that by it's nature the Yggdrasil would be a Low Multiversal to an arguably Hyperversal construct while the latter would lift things straight up to the Yggdrasil being a Low Outerversal construct , in any case the fact that GoW Thor splintered it with raw strength would give him Low Multiversal AP & likewise the same level of Durability using the low-end scaling for the Yggdrasil (a reminder that this is a low-end scaling), for speed Thor kept up somewhat with Kratos in both their fights, Kratos back in the earlier GoW games being able to dodge Helios's light in Kratos vs Helios, said light capable of lighting up the entire realm of Hades instantly the realm which was made to be Infinite in size by Helios & Nyx, this gives Kratos Inaccessible Speed which for Thor to be able to properly fight with Kratos he'd have to be relative in speed to Kratos as well also granting GoW Thor Inaccessible Speed , we still have Immeasurable Speed scalings for Kratos which would translate to Thor's as well but I don't think that's necessary because I think who the winner is should be clear by this point & I don't think it's very hard to tell

This wasn't a kratos at is full strength. He was holding back and it was stated by thor throughout the fight that he wanted to see the "real kratos" and to "stop holding back".
Don't over sell it by misunderstanding the fight. Kratos didn't even have his blades of chaos (which thor made a comment about while making reference to him holding back).

Again thor literally asks him to bring out his full strength and to not hold back the entire fight. Only at the end when kratos punched his tooth out was when thor mentions that he brought out a glimpse of his true strength.
yeah but that should only really apply to kratos attacking. Even if he is holding back it shouldnt effect how he can take damage.
Like Thor literally brings Kratos back to life in the first fight. So while he might not be looking for a fight, he also wasnt planning on being killed yet it happened.
Thats a crazy power level......you could argue thats just a cheap game trick to make you think "i lost the fight already?!?" but still it happened from a few strong hits.

I see your point but I will rebuttal with the fact that kratos power comes from his anger and he was trying to reason with thor the whole fight. Arguing his case that he killed thousands sons in self defense .
Im not gonna be a rat and ignore the fact that thor was holding back too but kratos had no intent to kill. Also I'll argue to say that thor didn't kill kratos, he just knocked him out because no version of his hammer can bring beings from the dead.
Regardless your point is a good point but it still doesn't change the fact that he was holding back and him being knocked can be explained away by just saying thor did that to invoke more anger out of kratos.
I mean even in the final fight , kratos washed thor up much easier and spared him cuz even then his intent wasn't to kill.

About Kratos death though, Im not saying the hammer has some special ability to bring back the dead. Rather simular to what we do when someones heart stops Thor uses it along with ⚡ to restart Kratos heart.

I think Thor is really close to Kratos in power however, I would like to see the current Kratos (He is at his most powerful form in his old age) with the bloodlust he had in the original trilogy, I feel like that strength gap would widen a good amount

I'm not sure but I may have to side on Thor. I believe Thor may put up a good fight but if Thor really wants to he will probably show him in the end that he is a stronger. I mean obviously Thor was trained and raised as the King's son and ruler Asgardian, but Thor was raised by Odin so it's going to be a close match. My guess is Thor in the end will win though

3:58 he is still infact holding back. He's not using his Spartan Rage. Or his god concept. He's literally doing all this with his natural god physic and strength. It'd be like Zeus fighting Thor but not using his lightning n other powers, just using his weapons N physical prowess.
edit - Even if you doubt it. Watch the fight shown in this video. Multiple times Thor says lines like "There he is" "You mock me holding back like this" or something of that nature. In their first fight it wasn't till Kratos snapped for a split second and used his Rage on accident Thor says "There he is thats the god of war" and says his debt is repaid.
MCU Thor, in a 3 v 1 versus Thanos WITHOUT the infinity stones, got his ass whooped and had to get saved by Captain America. I cant see GOW Thor losing to Thanos like that

Although Kratos mentions several times that after Olympus fall, he lost all powers he had absorbed from the other gods, icluding his father Zeus blessings, which is and why he can't use his old powers like before, and he can only use them for short period of time in his Spartan rage moments. To be fair both Thor's are cool, but the one from the God of war is written better, and being close to the actual Thor from the myths. I also like how it is mentioned that Thor's hammer is just super heavy, unlike the MCU one, where you need to be worthy to lift the hammer.

You are actually wrong in one part. Thor held Nidavellir's rings for a few minutes not 47 seconds. Of course in the movie, the clip is 47 seconds long, but in reality we hear Eitri say that for the uru to melt and forge it would take a few minutes.

He also adds, 'maybe more'. Which means that he held it for atleast 7-10 minutes.
The thing is, the Marvel comic book version of Thor would beat them all. He is All-Father Thor now, with the Odinforce.

The Marvel Comics Thor is infinitely stronger than MCU Thor, absurdly so. I don't know much on the Comics Thor beyond that, but I feel that he is definitely the strongest of the three.

@Danco your forgetting the most important thing about kratos in God of War 1-3 he was in the mode of killing the other gods he was determined when he was fighting the Asgardians he wasn't in a killing mode but as he started to slip back into his old slef he was killing them and as for the fight with Thor the third fight kratos lifted mjolnir and was gonna kill the God of thunder but instead he chose a different path your way under scaling kratos not to say Thor isn't strong but he's not even close to kratos when he's blood lust
what gets me every time about thor restarting the forge is that the pod is doing half the work while hes just resisting the pull or thrust of the pod, so the pod must also be able to move a small moon then which is a ridiculous notion, or thor is only as strong as that little pod is. And also Thor's one strike didnt destroy Sokovia if you remember it was a coordinated hit where Iron man super heated the vibraniam core running down, and then he got Thor to hit it on the other end ti get what he said the atomic action doubling back and that was what caused the the city and the giant rock it was attached to, to explode, not just Thor Hitting it one time, if all they needed was for Thor to give it one single strike then there would never have been any problems they would have ust said get everyone of the floating city in the sky and then Thor will hit once and it'll be obliterated, but no they had to figure out a plan in order to obliterate it, therefore thor cant just level how city at will

Something I feel like a lot of people forgot is how Kratos also stabbed himself with the blade of Olympus, which dramatically weakened him, if Thor fought the same Kratos that Zeus did, the battle would be over in much clearer way
You overlooked the fact that Thor is magical and that's a weakness for Superman. And his hammer is enchanted.
The fact that all the things mentioned here are actual downplays will probably shock so many MCU fans , the give a deep explanation about the world tree, we need to go to both the novels and the guide books which are canon , the world tree is a conceptual 5d+ construct that infinitely transcends all timelines and time spaces , the tree contains the 9 realms which are relative in size, Midgard was stated to have an infinite sky which means each realm is infinite in size, and in the novels it was stated that each realm contains multiple dimensions which are also infinite in size not only that but they also contains their own space and time making them 5d in btw 5d infinite is larger than 3d infinite since it has more dimensional space, now imagine Thor cracking the entire world tree , and btw Thor was shown to not be as strong as Kratos since a blood lusted Thor straight up lost to Kratos who was trying to convince him and wasn't trying to kill him, and if you can argue about that just keep in mind that danco said that Odin is stronger than Thor, Kratos defeated Odin btw, but that doesn't make Thor that weak since he still sent a snake that can wrap around Midgard back in time like nothing and still broke the world tree which is also a big feat when it comes to scaling Kratos

i get what you are saying but from what i know of the fight with thor he was not trying to kill him. i am sure if it was to the death kratos would destroy him in a blink. i dont know this is my take on it he has not really not had to hold back against an opponet so it may seem like he was getting his ass beat but i think it was the other way around. thor was on his knees at the end kratos essentially just got up. not to say he was not a bit winded but he was not to worse for ware. and im sure it may have just been a game mechanic to make sure we know it was not an easy fight to just not kill him.
over all gow v. mcu thor. gow thor would most definitely smoke the mcu thor. but both not something to take on a lightly

Thor from the MCU is just some alien-like dude who travels through space and can summon lightning and that's it. While Thor from GOW is the real God of Thunder.
The piece everyone misses. GOW is during ragnarok. Everyone is nerfed to hel. The first Kratos fight is him in defense mode with no gear and severely weakened magic

The only reason Thor MCU survived the Neutron Star is because the writers haven't got an inkling of what a Neutron Star actually is.
If it were a Neutron Star, just being that close to it would of certainly spaghettified Rocket, Groot, situationally Thor himself as well as; well anyone else.
The Tidal Forces of a Neutron Star that size, are well; beyond cataclysmic. Even assuming that the structure around it is sufficient to withstand it; and it's shielded or whatever to allow its occupants a safe haven aboard; from the biblical amount of gamma rays alone; Tidal Forces; heat, everyone who was even AT that station; is god-tier.
The Tidal Forces alone; hit hard enough to atomize the Earth itself; in seconds; from millions of kilometers away.
The fact that even Rocket and Groot survive its' presence, confirms that the writers have no clue what a Neutron Star is; and/or; that Rocket and Groot are on-par with some of the strongest forces of the universe itself.

Even if you ignore the lore and lore implications of GOW Thor, and just go off what we see. He still stomps MCU Thor.
He is more durable, way faster, has higher battle IQ and is smarter overall, has a better Mjolnir, can regenerate fatal wounds, has more stamina and endurance/pain tolerance.
It's just not fair, even if you ignore the lore and higher end feats, and say he's like mountain level lmao.
