Yeah, this! Interesting facts about the models and the originals, your thoughts and opinions, I think, would be really enjoyable, especially for beginners who might not know much, or anything, about the hobby!
At time stamp 0:16 you don't know how rare the Fire Station MF-1 and Service Station MG-1 are complete! $400 at least a piece. Add more for the original boxes too! The first Matchbox car case with the four plastic crates I still have no less! Before that they came with cardboard dividers, yuck. Once had the Build a Road set too. Thanks for sharing the memories of 1968,when I was a wee lad.
Wow $3 new and now $400. The Superkings K20 Ford D series winch semi trailer with the 3 orange #39 tractors, factory, hard hat and battery powered driver tool to operate the trailer winch. A rare Superfast which also goes for big money, if complete. Bit of a shame that the trailer was no longer detachable from the tractor.
8:38 WoW!.. I have the 1911 Maxwell Roadster (Y14) but without the radiator, among another 10 models in sad conditions but without losing that charm & quality. T H A N K S ! ! a lot for sharing this catalog with which you gave me historical reference of my Grandfather's Matchbox cars. I am 43 years old & I must say that it´s great to see these cars with their use scars. When I saw your video "Matchbox Restoration: No16 Scammell "Mountaineer" Dump Truck with Snowplough", I recognized him immediately as one of the ones I keep. T H A N K S ! ! & Greetings from Colombia! ! !
My Grandmother worked at a department store back in the late 60’s-early 70’s. I always received Matchbox cars for Christmas and birthdays. As an adult, maybe 20 years ago, she gave me a small stack of these. I have them put away somewhere, but I seem to recall they span from 68 or 69 up to 76 or so. It’s been a while, so I may be wrong... But thanks for sharing yours, and inspiring me to go find mine!
This is like a trip back in time. I had so many of these cars when I was a kid, some I completely forgot about. On every page, I was like, oh! I had that one and that one. It's funny how a child's memory never forgets good times.
I applaud the idea! It will be awesome series but bits of narration from personal experience are welcome too. Can't wait to see these old catalogs, did not expect so much additional informations like detailed production process and lot of hand painted illustrations... pure gem!
thank you for uploading, lots of good memories here, my favorite year for matchbox cars as a kid, spent a lot of time with this catalog and collected all the regular cars in it, never did collect the big ones though, gave them all away when i left home, probably should have kept them
Wow, that 1967 catalog at the beginning there sure took me way back. My dad had that exact catalog along with some of the cars featured it in as well as the one you showed and I have very fond memories of him showing them to me as a kid. I was impressed with how high quality the models were despite being older compared to the newer hotwheels I had at the time which seemed much more cheaper in quality and mass produced. Unfortunately, my dad passed several years ago but this brought back happy memories of him showing me his childhood. Also reminds me that he kept all of it in this wooden box in our garage which should still be there as we've been completely cleaning out the place so I'll be sure to save it ASAP.
Definitely a welcome addition to your channel. This is a also an opportunity to share your knowledge with your subs, so I would like to see you narrate these. Thanks again!
Thanks for this interesting video! Many of us would never see these catalogs otherwise! It all came out before my birth and I find this insight into the 60s Matchbox cars very interesting!
That was fun to see! The illustrations would really get a kids imagination going. I grew up around road construction with both my Dad and grandfather being engineers so I really like the trucks and heavy equipment.
I would certainly enjoy seeing videos of the Matchbox catalogs over the years. I had the 1979-80 and the 1980-81 catalogs when I was a kid. They were well worn by the time I was through with them, that's for sure!
Wow! you really have a lot of catalogs! The artist continues to like kids who wear ties - he had one toting the match box carrying case. The end section that discusses zinc mining and processing and paint production suggests that the makers of Matchbox knew then that they actually had two markets. There were actual kids who played with the toys, but there was also an adult market that appreciated them as models and miniatures. Great video!
Wow, fantastic! How is it I'm getting nostalgia looking at a book that came out 8 yrs before I was even born? Oh well, at any rate, I do believe I received (as a Christmas gift) a stake truck very similar to the one seen at 1:29 when I was about 4 years old. If I had to critique this video, the only thing I can come up with is: 4:02 + ... You zoomed over to the checklist so quickly that the 3 cars on the left side of page 13 were just a blur to my aging eyes 🙁 Everything else was amazing. Loved the Greyhound Bus picture!
This video brings back a lot of fond memories for me! I still have some of the vehicles pictured in the catalog. I also have some of the larger ones like the car carrier. I played with them , but l was always careful with my toys. Some of the them have tires that are coming off. Thank you for posting this video.
Thanks so much for sharing that! Agree with a few others here... would love to see them all like that! As a designer myself i really love and appreciate the drawings used to make these catalogues.
Born in 64 I have good many of those standard sized models and a couple of the Kingsize, great to see the whole range and where that random plastic shed came from!
Wow.....way to make an old man, remember us fond memories of his childhood😪 I didn’t have all the cars, but I which I did. I can remember sitting on my dads lap with that catalog and saying, “I want that one...no that one...oh, that one is really nice”. Now my grand boys play wit hose old cars. It funny live comes in a full circle. Thank You😊👍
Wow, I still have this K-18 Truck with horse trailer somewhere. That catalog is pure art, all those lovely drawings look awesome. Where has all the art gone today? :-(
I’d love to see a series on these! I just recently took a trip home for my high school reunion and while there I collected some of my old Matchbox cars (several from these catalogs!) from my sister, no idea how she ended up with them after I left for the military. Guess I wasn’t around to tell her stay outta my room! If I could ask one thing, bring back that music you added for the first catalog flip through, or something similar. It really added to the feeling of nostalgia, and the silence in this video was deafening! 🤣
Thought I'd better comment on thr re-upload too.👍 It's almost as good as the original. Seriously though, a whole series of these would be great. I would keep it simple, just like this. One possible idea would be to show a few vehicles from each catalogue, maybe the newest additions to the range; depends just how many of them you actually have. Cheers for now, Dougie.
I'm not old enough to have a nostalgia trip on this, but I do enjoy seeing all the old artwork for the cars. There's just something about that style that's very appealing to me.
The medium is gouache and this style of illustration (artistic but precise & unassuming) used to be nigh-on ubiquitous before CGI and digital retouching/colour correction of photography became commonplace. It is sometimes referred to as "movie-poster" style (accordingly, gouache is also known as "poster paint"). British comics of the day were done in this style (e.g. Roy of the Rovers, Dan Dare, Trigan Empire) as well as book covers, which are just small movie posters.
I like how you showed some nostalgia, also wanted to say that it is amazing that you find old decrepit and damaged cars and restore them back to their former glory.
I showed this to my grandpa and he thought it was so cool to see again he wanted me to ask if you have the 1972 catalog, he'd like to see it again he said he remembers looking through it for my uncle who was 2yrs old at the time and has many good memories looking through it with my uncle picking out tracks and cars
Thought it was kinda cool to see a description of what they had to do, to make one of those cars back then. Kinda one of those "hmm, interesting" kind of moments when reading those last few pages of the catalog.
The little drug store in Upstate NY carried Matchboxes and had the display and boxes and boxes of Matchboxes but didn't carry some showed here. I had the king size tractor trailer with the dozer..LOL, I ended up in the Navy Seabees as a a heavy equipment operator and tractor trailer operator.
This educational video has; revamped my memory of, the classic Atari 2600 video game cartridge catalog. It has also; grabbed my attention, the most as well.
Yup, some things were much better in the past. Us children in the 1960's weren't treated like morons. I was five in 1968, and, like most children of my age, (although I could read and write at three and a half) had no problem reading the catalogue. A lot of things were like this. Dinky, Corgi, Britains, and Airfix all produced beautiful catalogues. They were something you looked forward to each year.
Oh if only I had all my old Matchbox, Dinky, and Corgi toys that I had as a child they would be worth a fortune. I kept them in pristine condition and always put the back in their boxes, but alas my wretched stepmother burned all of them. She thought they were distracting me from my schoolwork.
Btw, my all time favourite was a Dusenberg Roadster. Had it for many decades until it was pocketed by a friend's child. Hadn't the heart to take it back... but not a couple days later, saw it squashed on buddy's driveway where it no doubt was driven over by the car. ~Sai la vie
I was just now musing as to whether or not trying to hunt down another one or a reproduction, but I now just realized that I don't know if it was actually a matchbox or not!!!
I had the 1967 catalog. I remember when it was fully in tact. I wish I had been more careful with it. Now I just have a few fragments that are kept in a clear plastic sleeve.
Growing up as a kid my grandmother had a book I could read, it was about how matchbox cars were made. I have never seen the book again. If memory serves me, it was a red and white book with basic illustrations. Have you seen this or know what I'm talking about?
Brilliant video thank you! If this is a regular slot can it be done on a stand (like a cookery book stand or similar) so that the catalogue is static? Turning the pages and camera work might be easier then too.
I've never seen those road sets. Are they plastic or cardboard? I had a hotwheels set when I was a kid that had 3 buildings but wasn't all that big. Would love to see the video series done on all the catalogs.
It's a lever. Moving it steers the front wheels. AFAIK the only Matchbox to have this feature. Some other models got Autosteer, which did away with the lever.
I would like to see all those catalogs in a video. The one I'm most interested in is the 1982/83 with the semi trucks on the cover. Those trucks are what I'm looking for. I haven't had much luck. I'm sure they can be found on Ebay but I don't shop Ebay.

The Lion for the Wildlife Truck is not available, as far as I know. You can get the window unit, and the clear plastic dome for the load bed, as these were used on earlier Regular Wheels Ford F100's.
Hey Bare Metal, I found a old car today and thought of past video's of yours I've seen. I looked threw all of your uploads and I don't think you have or haven't done this car I have. Could I send it to you to be restored? You could keep it, All I'd ask for is a shout out for some channel growth :) So could I send you a car?
I'd love for you to actually talk us through them as well with what you know about particular models, casting techniques, changes, etc.!
Yes!
Yeah, this! Interesting facts about the models and the originals, your thoughts and opinions, I think, would be really enjoyable, especially for beginners who might not know much, or anything, about the hobby!
Agreed. A thumbs down for me.
not to mention your narrative voice is brilliant. Many thanks for the channel btw
I am lucky to see this catalogue after 45 years... Thank you so much for this from the bottom of my heart!

The brand "Siku" does a great line in that kind of vehicle.

Tengo 56 ,mi infancia fue muy feliz y en parte porque tenia estos Matchbox!
im a little older than yourself i have a lot from 1956 to 1971 some i have about 6 or 7 same one
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!!!

My father in law has probably 60% of the kingsize trucks in this catalogue, I am making sure he never gets rid of them
Thought it was kinda cool to see a description of what they had to do, to make one of those cars back then. Kinda one of those "hmm, interesting" kind of moments when reading those last few pages of the catalog.

cool to see color trials and prototype models in these catalogs
I would live a series on the Matchbox catalogs. I grew up in the sixties.
Awesome, really appreciated. I'm not a collector but I am a nostalgist. Thanks.
Fantastic upload. Special Request for either 1977 or 1978 with the “Adventure 2000” vehicles.
Whoa!!! That's from a toy store in my hometown!! Ernie's toy land in Yuba City Ca. It was in business from 1958-2004
Quote of reality "Us RUclipsr Creators are always looking for an easy video to make"... Oh man.. so true!
COOL, Great memories. I had the BP service station my parents bought me in Scranton Pa.
If you have the whole set: cars, box, instructions, it's a valuable and very desirable collectible.
Oh if only I had all my old Matchbox, Dinky, and Corgi toys that I had as a child they would be worth a fortune. I kept them in pristine condition and always put the back in their boxes, but alas my wretched stepmother burned all of them. She thought they were distracting me from my schoolwork.
WOW,
I really did enjoy that.
Thanks baremetalHW.
Btw, my all time favourite was a Dusenberg Roadster.

They are too cool my friend, I have a few older catalogs but I'm not sure which years.
I had the 1967 catalog. I remember when it was fully in tact. I wish I had been more careful with it. Now I just have a few fragments that are kept in a clear plastic sleeve.
The info on the paint that thay used was interesting , this would be a good series.
So many memories, great video maybe have some music in the back ground next time .
This is the future. Reading a book through a video.
1968 is great year for toy cars and trucks!
9:41 Great, teaching us!
That's awesome thanks for sharing
Great stuff man,your a hero.
I was highly interested in the talk of Zinc alloy and how they mix it with other alloys to get its fluidity correct!
Growing up as a kid my grandmother had a book I could read, it was about how matchbox cars were made. I have never seen the book again. If memory serves me, it was a red and white book with basic illustrations. Have you seen this or know what I'm talking about?
Cool catalog :-). It is older that me :-).
I have a bunch of those cars love this stuff cool video
Wow cool, I have that "Benz" Ambulance on a shelf next to me except the back door is broke in half :(
I'LL TAKE THE ASHTRAY PLEASE!
That pen stand. Class
Brilliant video thank you! If this is a regular slot can it be done on a stand (like a cookery book stand or similar) so that the catalogue is static? Turning the pages and camera work might be easier then too.
Yes... I am going to change it up and make it more easy to see...
Out of all of those models, I think maybe I had 6 or 7 of those total. Can you believe the prices?
I've never seen those road sets. Are they plastic or cardboard? I had a hotwheels set when I was a kid that had 3 buildings but wasn't all that big.
Would love to see the video series done on all the catalogs.
5:06 (None of that «buildAroad» was sold here at #Venezuela)
Can you do a video on the trailer caravan and make the inside detailed
Thank you for all of the good videos bare metal
at 2:05 you focus on the Mustang Fastback. What is that which looks like a switch on the bottom of the driver's door?
It's a lever. Moving it steers the front wheels. AFAIK the only Matchbox to have this feature. Some other models got Autosteer, which did away with the lever.
I would like to see all those catalogs in a video. The one I'm most interested in is the 1982/83 with the semi trucks on the cover. Those trucks are what I'm looking for. I haven't had much luck. I'm sure they can be found on Ebay but I don't shop Ebay.
Looking forward to the 1970's ones.
Cool old catalogue. They don’t do that anymore
Cool video, just weird to watch a video with no sound at all....
Do you have a list of links to purchase the tools you regularly use? I would find that very helpful.
Repeating my original comment that apparently was lost when you updated or re-uploaded your video. Everyone should go watch the lock picking lawyer RUclips channel and listen to the similarities between yours and his voices and the overall only show your hands mode of videoing
I was literally just thinking "hmm I wonder if baremetalHW is secretly the lock picking lawyer" Because they have the same voice and do similar video styles
Cool books!
Can you do the Pontiac Grand Prix?
Excelente catolog! Where did you get it?
Cool cars in the catalog, if you could buy those cars now would be the best, greetings friend
How old are you,sir?🤔
Are these your very own catalogs from your childhood?
I would guess mid-forties, just a tad too young. But we all grow up amid cultural expressions that are one or a few decades old.
If Ya noticed... 99% of my videos have my (I didn't MAKE it. I mean the one I have, lol) Matchbox book in the BG. It's a good book, but I wanna get the one You have too eventually :)
Video is a weird way to present a catalog. This seems like a more sensible way to do it. High -res, complete pages visible, and they turn when the viewer chooses:archive.org/details/Matchbox1968CollectorsCatalogue
I'm sort of new to catalog videos... I'll take a look
Eerie silence is eerie
Did something go wrong with the first upload
Hello guys!
I own a
Matchbox Rolomatics No.57 Wild Life Truck
Yellow Ford Truck. Car lost its toy lion.
Can You give me a hint, where can I buy spare details for matchbox cars?
Would highly appreciate!
A Google search for "Matchbox Spare Parts" will find many sellers of parts for Matchbox. It's quite the thriving Cottage Industry. There are sellers in: Australia, UK, USA, Canada and Holland that I have purchased from. Most parts available are for the earlier Regular Wheels type Matchbox, up to 1969 production. The Lion for the Wildlife Truck is not available, as far as I know. You can get the window unit, and the clear plastic dome for the load bed, as these were used on earlier Regular Wheels Ford F100's.
Love tis but I'd enjoy talking or just the ambient noise of the pages (low key AMSR I guess)
0:34- I am definitely interested!
Is there any chance you can repair one of my favorite hot wheels cars
Hey Bare Metal, I found a old car today and thought of past video's of yours I've seen. I looked threw all of your uploads and I don't think you have or haven't done this car I have. Could I send it to you to be restored? You could keep it, All I'd ask for is a shout out for some channel growth :) So could I send you a car?
The video you did approximately 11 hours ago has been removed
At 2:52 I've got the mk10 jaguar in near mint condition and baught it for $1 with the locomotion bicentennial hot wheels mustang stalker
How much would it cost to restore a hot wheels
Matchbox were rather expensive back in the day. Hot Wheels were .59 to.79 cents or so. Never 2 dollars!!
Would you please restore a Hot wheels What-4 at one point I have one I want to restore but I want some reference for one before I start.
why in the playlist for this video you have a Fortnite video
👍🏼🤘🏼😎
moooaaarrrrrr..!!!
no sound my friend
70s 80s next pls
My dad has the Bentley ashtray
Go ahead and talk through them, educate us on some history. If people don't want the commentary they can hit "mute".
