I like that out of all the sand clones in this sequence, Joe's is the most defined and in-line with his actual appearance, as if out of all the negative things that have been said to 22, his cut the deepest and thus are the most ingrained into 22's psyche
I feel that 22 is actually the protagonist and Joe is the deuteragonist. Or supporting character. I say because while Joe is the main focus, 22 actually is the reason for why the film is the way it is. 22 and Joe teach each other the meaning of life. 22 teaches Joe how to let loose at times and learn to appreciate the other things in his life. And Joe teaches 22 that living on earth is not as bad as she thinks. As evidenced when 22 eats pizza, gets a haircut in Joe's body and gets Joe's father's suit custom tailored to him. But it's not until Joe and 22 are outside of The Half Note club when a samara leaf flies off a tree and lands in Joe's hand and 22 looks at it in amazement. That part right there made 22 realize that earth is not as bad as it seems. That's why I think 22 is more of the main character than Joe.
I often wonder how many adults and teens would be crying if this was in theaters and at this scene. I know I’d be one of them in person crying to this. Love this movie ❤️
This moment made me get choked up. If I wasn't embarrassed about crying in public, I would cry every time I watch this scene. I relate to everything 22 said, and when Joe manages to break through to her and shows that he cares and has faith in her, that also hit me pretty hard. Soul is up there with Up as the best Pixar movie ever in my opinion.
You and I have very similar tastes. Soul and Up are my favorites. I honestly think this movie is one of the best movies I have watched. So important and meaningful and is a tear jerker every time
I know this doesn't connect to Soul but, it somewhat reminds me of a role Jaime Foxx was in the movie Ray, where Ray was going through the same when at rehab for recovering his heroine addiction and had horrible PTSD moments when he was learning piano, his brother George dying from drowning, his mom saying why he didn't run to her to say something about the incident, and when Ray receive the closure he got by envisioning his mom talking to him that he must get his life together for himself and her, he promises then George comes in saying; "Ray, it wasn't your fault." and they hugged.
Honestly, I love the whole “your spark isn’t your purpose, it’s what tells you you’re ready to live” point, I think it’s infinitely more powerful than 22 finding a purpose.
I think most teenagers of our generation have some understanding of those Lost Soul I think God has saved us there in heaven just for our time today, and we're gonna learn/find things about life that no other generation has
“Teenagers” lmao I love how you think adults stop feeling things. Adults are some of the most damaged individuals. You only get more damaged as you grow older 😂 if you think poor teenagers live the hardest lives then you’re just wrong. You don’t know how bad it can actually get. When a person feels insecure and have self doubt, they try to avoid or cover up those feelings in various ways. In 22’s case, 22 may have felt incredibly insecure in watching other souls find their purpose or spar, but 22 didn’t. Making it even more frustrating is that many of her mentors were famous historical figures who had great accomplishments. So 22 could have felt like a lost cause when not even history’s greatest could help figure out 22’s purpose. So to avoid feeling insecure and hopeless, 22 purposefully annoyed and antagonized her mentors, until they quit out of frustration. As far as the Mother Teresa comment, 22 could have said that to Joe as a pre-warning, like “Look buddy, I’m not an easy case. I made Mother freaking Teresa cry. So, it’s best that you quit now and save yourself the trouble of realizing that I’m a lost cause.”
This movie made me cry multiple times and this was definitely one of them because I have been in this exact place so many times.
