I started listening to This is Happiness (made it almost 50% of the way through, actually), and I just could not keep myself interested. I knew it was a beautiful story, but I just could not find myself loving it the way I knew I should. One day I will obtain the physical copy and devote the time to it that it deserves ❤

@@reannamarschel6715 This is Happiness has a lot of very rich descriptions so can totally imagine my mind wandering if I had listened to it. That’s why finding great audiobooks is so hard for me!

One day I jumped on a bus and a library book lay on the seat beside me(forgotten or left behind).I brought it home but cast it aside and found it years later in a box with other stuff(silly me).Anyway I decided to read it before returning it to the library. The book was called Four Letters Of Love by Niall Williams.By the way your channel came up on my feed just as I had finished Our Mutual Friend(pretty much when you had finished it).

Funnily enough, I think Four Letters of Love is what my mom is currently reading. We were both so interesting in reading more by Niall Williams.

I love this end of year “best of” compilation! I’m obsessed with the Liveship Traders trilogy as well. I’ve read the first two and have one to go! And yes, please do a video with all your 2024 reads! I’d love it!

Oooh I was patiently waiting for this one! Such a good list. In Ascension is a soul book of mine, too. Honestly changed how I think about life and time!! My favorite book of the year was definitely Menewood by Nicola Griffith. It is the follow up to Hild which was also great. Both books take place in 7th century Britain and follow a young girl who becomes quite a pivotal figure of the time. They are very very dense and it took me ages to read them, but it was so worth the effort. I just loved being in the world and experiencing that time period. I think you might like them! A Tree Grows in Brooklyn was another standout for me. I've only read the first two books in the Farseer Trilogy, but am so excited for how much more Hobb is in store for me. Like you said, Hobb definitely feels like the adult version of many giddy childhood fantasy-reading experiences. And This is Happiness has totally shot to the top of my tbr...I know I'm going to love it!

I immediately bought “This is happiness”, the cover alone looks so nice! I noticed that we read and like very similar books. Did you ever try Iain Reid? I really really like “Foe” & “I’m thinking of ending things” - short, super immersive books with an immensely entertaining and somewhat weird plot.

Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye was one of my favorite books of 2024 ❤. Such beautiful writing despite hard situations.
I've been been needing to read Louise Erdrich. My top 2024 reads were:
Look at Me by Anita Brookner
A Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar
