The fact that this comment is coming from a native percussionist, hearing about the wounded knee massacre scares me but brings different layers of music that is beautiful. the flute has a soft feeling of healing, the woodwinds has the feeling of bravery, trumpets has sound of courage, and the percussion has the feeling of the indigenous people being relentless and fearless of fighting for there people
And I’m guessing by Trumpets, you mean *all* brass instruments. Otherwise, I would assume it’s just trumpets alone. (And not to be rude, and I know you know this, but Trumpet is not the only brass instrument. There is also French horn, trombone, baritone, and tuba)
I played this song as an oboe player who had only first started learning the instrument 3-4 months before we were supposed to perform it. I still have that solo memorized from how many times I practiced it.
I’m a middle school flute. I love this piece so much, the story is so sad and I feel ashamed that the US did what they did to those innocent people. I really hope I get to play this in high school someday.
@@cjaverysrandomreviews4675, I get what Anna is complaining about, it is when you are on piccolo and you have to sit out a lot. Sometimes you don't want to have to switch instruments, i have recently stopped switching back and forth unless it is called or in the music. I would just get the flute part and play in down the octave, just to help to keep me focused and my instrument ready.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Band composers should be less afraid to have people sit out. Having the entire band playing constantly just creates the same generic band sound that’s been heard thousands of times before.
The instructions given basically tell the musicians to play those notes, in that basic pattern, but with room for interpretation. The idea is that there is no "beat" in that section, just chaos. The players a cued by the conductor on when to come in.
Second chair contributes to the band as much as the firsts do! You are important and most of the time seconds have amazing harmonizing part to add to the color of the piece! Thus song would sound very different without seconds!
Played this for band! It was absolutely thrilling but the story behind it is heartbreaking
IiBatteryiI [GD] look up wounded knee
omg i would want to see this as a marching band show. that would be AMAZING
how are you supposed to play chimes marching? lol
Stephen Owens chimes are in the pit; they don't go anywhere.
ik
My band did it and it was amazing. We scored so well!
I feel like it would be better as a concert but a marching band performance with this song sounds cool!
The oboe solo goes INCREDIBLY hard

The low brass in this sounds amazing.
Just performed this in concert two days ago. Oboe!!!!!

3:00 that low brass yummmmmmm
I’m playing this piece in my high school’s wind ensemble, and our low brass is only one trombone (me), one euphonium, and one tuba lol
2:46 That time frame got be hyped
Joe Dimatteo that sounded weird
When there’s no appreciation towards the beautiful oboe solo at 1:47
Learning it 😊
Coolest percussion song I've ever played
Wait till you play a song called Machu Picchu-City in the Sky
Leon Qu or Spain that’s a really good percussion piece.
Am I the only one who gets chills when the Low Brass come in at 3:00 loud and powerful ...... Just me? Okeee
And here I thought I was the only one who got chills. Loud & powerful indeed. Definitely gets you on the edge of your seat.
nope, I was getting some crazy chills, powerful it is.
On god best part
My band just played this for our end of the year concert and it was so fun and so thrilling even as a percussionist
I was playing chimes it not as cool as the other percussion parts
3:50 is my all-time favorite part!!!
the percussions parts are AMAZING

それでもコンクールでは良い成績が取れたので、良かったです。
I love this!!! My band played this song last year! Favorite song I've played so far!!
have you checked out Moscow 1941(Brian Balmages) Electricity(brian Balmages) and Arabian dances(Roland barett) yet?
This dude is a GOD
are we not gonna talk about measure 134 (5:32) with a low c on piccolo?
i played this on oboe last year!!!
Same! That song is what made me love playing oboe
1:18 to 1:45 is beautiful
My band played this last year, I want to see it done by another band at our school now...
Best part 42 2:46
And 67 3:51
Andy_Minecraft_1 Hammer agreed. Playing bass drum to snare drum around this part was absolutely insanely fun to perform
Amazing bpm
I love how 3:51 builds
A very good piece, I was disappointed with some of the part writing but overall wonderful.
that tempo is nice
Man this slaps
WHAT DO YOU MEAN TRILL SIXTEENTH NOTES?!?
F
tfw piccolo is only playing for 40% of the song
Anna Dien they put a low C which almost never exists on a piccolo wtf 😹
Anna Dien just do primarily flute and change to piccolo when it changes

Simon Julien IKR! Like why would they put a low c for the piccolo when it can’t play that
1st chair trumpet here. super fun. those high Bb's get a bit annoying but still a really musically interesting piece.
It's the high a flats for me. They're so annoying and it's a weird partial to come in on
Really? I found it pretty easy and ive NEVER played an above staff b-flat it was my 1st time in this piece❤❤
he really does do a lot of history-inspired pieces doesn't he
2:47 The epic
Sounds like super mario galaxy 3 to me
@@emilyk.9089 wow congrats
I really don't understand why did the composer added 2 key changes even though the instruments still use Ebs and Abs a lot of the time
playing percussion 2 for this song was so fun lol
MEASURE 42 ;)
The beats from measure 34 to 41 and measure 161-167, how do they work?
The instructions given basically tell the musicians to play those notes, in that basic pattern, but with room for interpretation. The idea is that there is no "beat" in that section, just chaos. The players a cued by the conductor on when to come in.
ok but why is there a low c for piccolo
Tuba time
As a trumpet my lips hurt just listening😭
4:50 Are those Tenor Drums?
There toms
I asked that because they sound similar to tenor drums
Love the clarinet medoldy.....but theres a lot of accidentals....at 3:54 and then at 5:30 rythem is little trickey....
This is the easiest part of the song, coming from a clarinet player
Bro what are wooden wind chimes
Is basically the same thing as regular wind chimes they work the same way but their made out of wood and look a little bit different
this is godtier i-
69 tempo
Woodwinds decided to give up 2:19
No, it's an aleatoric section--they come in at different times playing those notes but there really isn't any time there
Hey Alfred Music Concert Band what about the bass clef if your RUclips profile picture? not appreciative of bassoons and low brass? or timpani?
Stephen Owens treble clef is better :)
