- I don't know about you, but I like a clean look in my tanks!
Clean meaning, as little equipment visible as possible.
This is why I love the fact that I can hide my intake and my heaters behind my 3d background.
Now, you may not have a 3d background...yet. 😊 But knowing how effective your intake can be when it's hidden from view if placed in the correct position, is always something good to know!

Having trouble with getting Crystal Clear Water? My #1 bestseller will absolutely help! 😊
Check it out - bit.ly/clearH2O
Hey new to hobby and your videos bin very helpful. I have 8 glofish tetras and 2 Siamese pleco was wondering if it would it be safe too add in 2 more Siamese and 4-6 more glofish to my 55 gallon without overfilling aquarium
Just do cotton...
Yes sir a properly placed intake and a good wave maker make a perfect setup. My 180 has white sand and I don't need to vacuum at all. Detritus is pushed to the intakes and gets removed. Heck that's why we have filters is to do that work for us. Work smarter not harder!
Yes sir!! I try to amplify that message all the time! Let your filters do the job they were intended for! 😁💪
Great video Kaveman. I have a dead spot in my tank and will be rearranging my wave maker to correct the situation.
Glad I could help my bro! 😁💪
I ordered an FX6 to add with my FX4 and literally just hooked it up with this video as a guide. Exact same setup as you but both filter intakes are on the right and both of the out facing to the left. Same but opposite sides. My Aquadecor background should arrive next week. Super excited to get it set up. Thank you for the video it was extremely helpful 🙏🏾
Man I appreciate your videos. I’m always learning something new. 👍🏾. Thanks.
Glad to hear That bro! 😁💪
Thanks Kev, your indepth knowledge is very useful ❤️
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
I won't lie...Lol...I need you watch this a few more time's to completely understand all of this...but I did get what you said about why you had a "dead" zone in your tank. Great video Kev! Your tank looks great! And your plant's too! Learn something new every time! 😊❤️
Re-watch as many times as you need! 🤣🤣 If you ever find a "dead" spot moving your equipment around can sometimes be all you need 😊
🤣😂👍Thank you Kev! ❤️
Great video Kaveman Kev!You're the GOAT‼️💯
Thank you for all you do‼️💯I'm successful all because of you man‼️💯
Thank you bro! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪

I always learn something from and you and your setup. Same with the use of wave maker. love it man cheers 🙌🙌
Great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it bro!
Thanks for finally explaining ! Makes so much more sense now.
I have a dead spot in my tank that I need to figure out too.
My pleasure! This video was a long time coming lol
Great explanation Kev! Thank you!
My pleasure Tiff, glad you enjoyed it!
I got the wavemaker Caveman, the fish love it, you can tell they love playing in the wave as they rush towards the water like surfing the waves!!!!thanks
Thats excellent bro! Glad you and your guys are enjoying the wave maker 😊
Once again, pure gold. Thanks brotha!
Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed it! 😊💪
Here in Denmark, a popular option is to have filter behind the 3d background. 2/3 of the length is filled with biowheels, then filter floss and pump. It can run for years with only changing filter floss. But it takes up extra space in the aquarium.
Funny how it's only popular here.
I think it has to do with Europeans got to improvise how to get maximum use out of limited space. I grew up in Ukraine and i remember our apartments....always reclining beds or bookshelves on the walls...anything to save the space...i think we would have them float in the ai 0:48 r but that stupid gravity thing always got in the way....lol.
Hi from Cambridge, UK.
Great video mate.
I've just upgraded my cichlid tank from 50gal to 70 gal with an FX4 & a wave maker.
Set up as your video with the intake on the right. Exit in the middle & the wave maker top right (above the inlet)
Great flow now, & I'm gonna get a second WM for the bottom left.
Thanks for the advice
Wave maker is a game changer
Yes sir!
I have not vacuum my substrate for almost 1 and 1/2 yrs now.
Hi man, loved your contant, but i have a question. Since you have said that the intakes of your filter are at the bottom. But if the filter intake is overflow box (top of the tank) then how to make a good circulation that it will take all the debris and poop to have a clean looking sand.
bought one couple months ago, 400 for one didnt sound bad at all and its worth it, only problem is more maintenance to keep it clean
If you mean the FX6 you should really only have to do monthly maintenance on the top polishing pad. Full canister maintenance should be able to wait at least 6 months! (Depending on your bio-load of course) 😊
@@KaveManAquatics should of been more specific lol I meant the background
That is something I’ve always wondered about 😊
Excellent video. You do have the knack for tropical fish tank maintenance!
Glad you enjoyed it sir!
Hi Kev! New to this hobby (Since August 2022), and your channel too! Your advice, after trawling various places like YT, Reddit and my LFS, is as sound as it can be. Learned so much from you and your videos here. Thank you kindly!
Just wondered if you have had any experiences with an Aqua One Oscellaris 850 or higher? How do they perform? I ask as I'm getting one with a tank next week...
Glad you're finding the channel helpful bro...unfortunately, I dont have any experience with that product
Appreciate your helpful videos. Question how would you setup a canister filter with a hob filter and a wavemaker for maximum circulation.
Hey! Thanks for sending me to this video!!
My pleasure bro!! 😁💪
Yo. You are my fish dude 💯. Keep $#!% simple. Clear. And confident in what he says. My guy. 🤜🏻🤛🏼
Thank you my bro! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
Thanks for another great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Hey Kaveman. Where did you get the pillar rock decoration from? I think it was in your 75.
Have you seen those sponge filters attached to a power head, by pipe that runs the length of the tank; so the sponge is on the left, and power head on the right? You could run the pipe behind your background, obviously.
Great video, changing stuff around today. Was going to do it anyways, but this helped prompt me. An FYI, everytime you pointed to a video link, there wasn't a video link there. Not sure if you noticed, or maybe it's my setup, but thought I should mention it.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊 If you're watching on a TV the video "cards" dont show up there. They only show when watching on youtube from your computer or on mobile.
Love the videos sir. Setting up my 150 now have a similar set up no background now but it is a red eared slider set up with soon to be much larger fish as well. 2 fx6 as well. Right now intakes and the return set up at the opposite ends like you had. Since I don't have a background should I still move it the same way you have yours set up currently with the intakes on the same side? Or do you think it would be to strong?
What are your thoughts on a spray bar attachment?
I've got a corner tank and I'm struggling 😂. Got wavemaker also. But it might be my canister filter. Need a fluval maybe...
it would be cool if you made a video on all the useful products to start and maintain an aquarium.. sry for my English.. im French lol
Hey man can u make a video on canister filters on reptile cages and what media & chemicals that would be beneficial, I have a 307 on a 70 gallon pond for my reticulated python and wanted to put some type of fish in their but not quite sure ideas or pros and cons would be nice
Thank you for these videos I learn a lot from you
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
Great video as always.
Love it. Is there a screen for water to get behind and not allow small fish behind?
Yes, the sides have a small mesh screen for water and waste to get behind it 😁
I have much smaller tanks and use a sponge filter. I was wondering can you run a sponge filter behind a 3d wall?
Hey Kev, do you add a wavemaker behind your 3D backgrounds to prevent detritus build up? Thanks
Only in the African Cichlid tank yes. Not in any of the others. 😁
Thank you so much! I’m still learning so much from you about filter set up. I have a RES turtle in a 150-gallon. Your tank looks much bigger. So far, my single FX6 and wave maker are keeping Franklin’s tank pretty clean, but I still seem to have a dead spot, and need to vacuum during my weekly 90% water changes. What are the dimensions of your 150-gallon tank? I’m starting to wonder if I bought a smaller tank than I was told.
Great content as usual big Kev. I have a dead spot in my 210 about a foot from the left side. Two Fx6 set up the same as yours. Only difference mine face to the right since my wave maker is on the left(same side as dead spot). I’ve moved my wave maker around countless times n still have the dead spot. Also my left Fx6 gets dirtier way faster than the right. Any suggestions big dawg?
Try adjusting its height. You may be too high up or too low. The pull isn't strong enough to keep that poop moving. if you have the Uniclife wavemaker I have, try a stronger setting for more power too. 😊 Hope that helps!
I do have the uniclife. On 60% n still pulls sand on opposite side. I’ll move it around some more n up the power as well. Might just have to deal with the sand. Good looking my brother.
Its a love hate relationship with te wave maker when it comes to sand. I have the same issue. It keeps the sand clean, but every week I have to push some sand back lol
I have a Angel fish that is off food and just hanging out alone, no outward symptoms, if your water tests are good what would your go to med be? I’m at a loss and I feel like I’m failing my little guys, I love my babies
Since you got your Discus do you have to make changes to your fish tank care? Love your video
I did double up on my water changes at first but ive switched back to just 1 single 80% water change per week. Same filter cleanings as usual. 😊
@@KaveManAquatics Thank you . Doing my home work, looking in trying them
Man love your videos helping me a lot but dam I’m going broke making sure I have all the right stuff and I don’t even have the fish in the tank yet😂😂
Thank you! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
I've recently put a pretty penny also into my 3 small tanks after discovering Kev but I know that my fish are thriving. Soon to upgrade to 80-90 gal. (Had a 120 in the old days.) My new favorite fish joint in my town is "Strictly Reef." (Contrary to the name, they do freshwater too.) I outgrew the chain places.
Hey, if i have 2 internal filters, how should i position them in the tank for best filtration and water flow?
Hey kaveman, love the videos. Quick question, I have a 90 gallon I'm setting up. It's going to have 2 tidal 110s on it. It's going to be stocked with mbunas. Would you recommend a WaveMaker on it, and if so, how would you position it or multiple WaveMakers?
Absolutely, A wavemaker will be very beneficial for them and the tanks cleanliness. With HOB's its a bit difficult to get the best circular flow of water since they bring in water from back to front, and not sideways. But it can still be done. Just position your wavemaker as close to the front viewing glass as possible. Still at the top and angled upwards. Congrats on your new setup! 💪💪
@KaveMan Aquatics hey Kevin, does the fx6 have to be Below the tank? Orr can it sit about 6 inches lower than the tank beside it?
At 90-gallons you should be thinking about adding a canister filter or something larger than HOB filters. Especially in an African cichlid tank. I'd think about investing in filtration prior to wavemakers which you may not need after adding A canister filter anyhow. Good Luck!
@KaveMan Aquatics hey Kevi, so on my 90 gallon. I did get a fx6, and a tidal 110. I put the intake and outtake of the fx6 on opposite sides. My questions are what side should I put the tidal on, the half width the outtake or the half with the intake? And what side should the WaveMaker be on?
Thank you.
Sup kaveman! Love the videos. I am setting up my 240 next week. I have 3 fx6 filters I am going to put on it. How should I position it with three fx6? Would it be the same as you demonstrated? Or can I put an intake on each end and one in the middle. Would appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
I would keep the intakes on the ends, none in the middle. Make sure all your outputs on top are pointing in same direction. Congrats on that monster tank! 😁💪
Kaveman, what size is your tank where your arowana is in?
Great video Kev
My 260 gallon tank has 2 Fx6 with fluval spray bar pushing the water to the front of the tank.
Is this a problem to you.
If our tank is staying clear and you don't have to much waste build up it's probably not a problem.
I have 2 407s with a wave maker in my 75 gallon Cichlid tank. Should I keep the intakes on the same side or should I keep them on opposite side?
Hey Kaveman, I am a big fan of yours. Doing so I have got great advice on maintenance and upkeep on my 125 tank. I now use 2 wavemaker and it's definitely a big improvement. I have angelfish and I was told that they don't like a lot of movement in the water, is that true?
That is true. Angelfish will prefer still and calmer waters. The flow from your filter outputs is most likely creating more than enough flow for them.
So I have a 75 gallon tank with the Tidal filter and a wave maker with one on each end of my tank, why does the poop build up on the same side as my wave maker help please?
Always though about this
This is great information bro, Can I ask everyone a random question? I had a new brand new hose slip off the outtake side of Sunsun 303b yesterday. It emptied half of a 75 gallon onto my tile floor (had the water up about and hour later but man it was alot of water) is it possible to put hose clamps on the canister side out & in where the disconnects are? I know they only come with the plastic clamps for the top tubes at both intake & out sides where they hang at the top of the tank. Does anyone put hose clamps on every spot a hose could fail?
Wow, I know that must suck! I dont use sunsun canister and never had an issue like that with Fluval. But yea, there shouldnt be a problem with adding more clamps to your hoses for safety purposes. Go for it!
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks man, I ordered a couple different ones to see what would work better. Thabks for the response. This never happened to me before.
@@KaveManAquatics dude can you believe it's my new tubing itself? It's rated for up to 140 degrees but I tested it with plastic hose clamps and it slowly expands when warm and the pump pressure walks it off the connections lol 😂 It felt noticably soft from the beginning, damn it lol.
Thanks!
My pleasure bro! Appreciate the Super Thanks! 😊💪
Ok so I have 2 fx6 and 2 wavemakers in my 125 . How should I set it up?'
Some acoustic panels in that room would do wonders, so much echo
Ive since done that and upgraded my mics 😁
About to install my 3D background. It is an ultraflex g36 model. Did you cut any holes and add the mesh?
No holes necessary 😁
Awesome! Thank you!!! I have everything ready and will begin install tomorrow. I appreciate the quick response 🙏🏾
Don't have a big tank but how about for a 36 bow? Right now I have the intake and heater on left and the output on the right but with it pointed at the front bow so it hits the glass from right to left towards the intake. Do you think I should move it? Thanks
With the 3d background from aquascapes, I am having an issue on where to attach my return hose. I am using an fx2 it can't Clip to the top because of the background. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Do you have any advice for intakes emptying out the well and starting to draw in air? Also any tips on keeping little fish from getting into the back by the intake? 135 gallon tank with a FX 6 and FX 4, aqua décor background and in the process of installing a hygger 2380 wave maker.
I have a short video on how to fix that - ruclips.net/user/shorts_mgs5PlrqjE?feature=share
@@KaveManAquatics awesome thank you!!!
I bought a 230 liter tank last year and it has 3 inch wide panes of glass siliconed around the top for added support, and 2 glass panels in the center that are removable (thus reducing what you can fit into the tank through the removable panes). The top support panes have a triangle cut out in either back corner for filtration but I can’t fit an intake/output in the same cut out and have to put one on either side. I have a wave maker on the side with the output but is there anything else I can do to help with keeping the tank bottom clean? My tank is an African Cichlid tank. I’ll not make the mistake of buying a partially closed top tank again, no ability to customize!
Quick question does your aquarium have temered glass ?😊
I am waiting for my 75 gallon custom tank. It will have an overflow system and sump. Can I still use this type of background?
Do you have any videos on sumps?
Absolutely! Aquadecor builds custom backgrounds and will build around your specific overflows locations.
I am getting my first sump ever in a few weeks and will be adding a lot of content on sumps 😊
@@KaveManAquatics Thanks.
I will look at the specifications that was sent to me on my custom tank. My tank should be here by mid April.
Are you obtaining your aquarium from “Custom Aquarium”
My Fx4 intake filter wont take up fish poop sitting right next to it 😢😢 any idea why? Even some poop were staying at the bottom of the intake but they dont get suck up. Filter is brand new.😮 does it mean the poop is too heavy?
Where do you get your tanks and stand brother?
Checkout Customaquariums.com 😁
How do I stop fish 🐠 from get sucked up in the filter?
If your fish are that small that this happens, try using a sponge filter - ruclips.net/video/lSzgK731woI/видео.html
Then I have the perfect question for you , if you have a sponge filter in the mix of this where would you place it? On the opposite end of where you Intake is ? Or the same side?
Thats an excellent question. I would keep it on same side as intakes, so it can also aid in pulling water to that direction.
Kev ,I hope you get this message love watching your videos, I've got a 10x3x2 ft tank with a 5ft sump, but even with 2 wavemakers I'm still struggling to get all the poo to the top ware the bulk heads are .
Any help would be great 👍
From the UK 🇬🇧
First try using only 1 powerful wavemaker at the top of one side. See if that keeps the waste moving. I just started using my own sump and when my new tank is fully stocked I'll have more info on a good wave maker placement for you 😊
What would you suggest for an acrylic tank that can’t have a 3d background?
6 ft acrylic, 2 fx6, wavemaker, only difference is intake are on opposite sides, will putting them in the same side fix this even without a 3d background?
Thanks!!
Yes, It will definitely help. Watch this - ruclips.net/video/GowcPzNxCDo/видео.html
Another question. I have been trying to cycle my tank for ever. This tank just won't cycle. I purchase 2 bottles of fritzzyme 7 and tried cycling my tank, tested my water and got 0 ammonia, 0 nitrate, 0 nitrites. It has been like this for 3 weeks. So I took my water to a fish store and he tested my water and said my tank was cycled and that because I have a Java fern in my tank, I'm getting a reading of 0 nitrates. I bought fish the week 2 weeks and weeks and sure enough, the fish started dying one by one. I tried the method of added prime and stability daily but this did not work. Now all my fish are gone, I'm trying to re cycle my tank. I bought fritz turbo start and as I mentioned, this was great at first. Added old ammonia water to my tank and got a reading of 0 ammonia. Did this for a week and BAM. second week of doing this, ammonia started to spike to .50ppm. Been testing for 2 weeks and still the ammonia is there. What happened to the beneficial bacteria? I did some research and found out beneficial bacteria like a ph level of 7 and up. So, my question is. If beneficial bacteria likes a ph level of 7 and higher, how is it possible to cycle a tank when my tap water is a 6? These test kits also only show a low rating of 6, so my ph can also be lower. Again, seems impossible to cycle a tank with a low ph level. How are people able to have fish like German blue rams when they prefer a ph level of 5 to 6 when beneficial bacteria prefer ph levels or 7 and up? Also, if beneficial bacteria die off with low ph levels in a aquarium, how do people have a stable aquarium with fish who prefer low ph levels?
Simple answer. Whatever research you found that told you bacteria die off under a ph of 7 is wrong. Many fish keepers keep soft water fish with PH below 7 and keep their tanks cycled. When researching in this hobby, or anything in general, get as many sources as you can. The internet is filled with misinformation.
Good to hear. Thanks for this, I was thinking this tank will never cycle due to my low ph levels. Ill have to figure out why these live bacteria never stay alive then. Have a great rest of your day
Make sure you've got a good amount of surface agitation. They need oxygen to survive.
Hi! If I have an HOB on the left side of my 20 gallon tank that sucks and outputs water basically in the same place, how do I get the other side of the tank to have water movement? Would I put a wavemaker on the left side where the HOB is, or on the right side?
20 gallons is too small for a wave maker. I suggest an airstone on the other side for good surface agitation 😁
Does a wave maker matter with a 20 gal long?
Is there a reason you went with canisters as opposed to a sump? I was just watching some videos and trying to see the pros and cons. You have about $1,400 worth of canisters give or take a few hundred. You seem handy enough to where you could have rigged up an effective sump that has everything that's in your canister for less than $300.
If you're sponsored, cool, if it's personal preference, cool, or if you didn't think about it, cool, I'm just wondering about the thought process.
Not sponsored by Fluval. Canisters have always been my preference because of ease of maintenance and safety of use. You will never get a flood from using canisters as they’re in a closed system. As far as maintenance, don’t need to clean them for 6-8 months.
While I agree sumps are great as well I haven’t preferred them.
BUT, to expand my hobby and experience I am about to get my very first sump ever. Stay tuned for my reviews and comparisons. 😊
Dope video. I got my intake in the left corner, my outake is pointing to the left, and my wave maker is on the right side of the tank pushing the water left. Is that right?
Nope, backwards. Intake at the bottom, output and wavemaker on the top, all on same side.
@@KaveManAquatics . What’s your email bro?
Hey Kev. Question. So I read that beneficial bacteria removes ammonia as soon as its produced in your aquarium water. So I was doing a fishless cycle and I had old aquarium water in a 29 gallon tank. I store this water to water my plants. I tested this water and had a level of 8ppm rating of ammonia. Now I added 2 liters of this old fish water to my 45 gallon tank because I wanted to feed my beneficial bacteria so the bacteria wouldn't die off. About 2 to 3 hours later, I tested my 45 gal water and I got a reading of 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite. So question is, if beneficial bacteria can convert toxic ammonia and toxic nitrite so quickly, why is adding store aquarium water that you bought the fish in so bad? I understand that is nasty water, but again, with my test and results, ammonia seemed to be converted pretty quickly.
I think it's because it could contain parasites and disease, so it's better to net the fish out :)
Great observation my friend! The answer is, ITS NOT SO BAD. It's an over-exaggerated scare tactic that has been passed along for years and years here in the hobby. I've added fish in with their bag water many times with no problems while some self-proclaimed "expert" comments about how bad that is and why I shouldn't do it. In reality, it really depends on how big of a tank that bag water is going in. If you're adding the bag water of one 3-10" fish into a 100-gallon tank, the effects of adding dirty bag water are minuscule and will result in almost no changes to your tank's water parameters. As you mentioned, your established bacteria will quickly get to work converting it.
Now, if you add that same fish and bag water to a 10-gallon quarantine tank, ok you may have a problem there because there's less water to dilute the dirty bag water. But like everything in this hobby, there's levels to things. What I think that happened is while you shouldn't do it in my ladder example, it's perfectly fine in the former example. But, people just regurgitated that its bad to do it (no matter the context) and that message just kept spreading throughout the hobby.
As you can probably tell, you hit a nerve with me! 🤣🤣 This is a topic I've been wanting to make a video about and haven't got around to it. Thanks for sparking my flame! 😁💪
The water wouldnt contain disease, the fish would.
Lol awesome. Thanks for clarifying. Better safe then sorry right. Keep up the great work. I enjoy your information on aquariums. Very helpful
Hey Caveman!! Should I run a wave maker 24 hrs?
If your fish enjoy the current, sure you can, I do. And it will keep your tank cleaner.
Hey I have a question I just ordered Aqua Decor 3D slim background. I'd like to put my intake behind the background like you should I drill some holes near the intake to allow water to go through?
Not necessary. Plenty of water will be back there for your intake 😁💪
You had posted that you were getting a 3d slim model background from Aqua Decor. I am so curious how this is working out for you, if you’re willing to share I would love to hear your experience. I’m in a hard self debate about a 3d background right now for my 110.
How do I know how strong of a wave maker I need for a 6ft tank. I don’t want to keep buying more if its not the right one
I use the uniclife 3400 GPH wave maker on my 6 foot tank. It has adjustable power settings so you can turn down the flow if its too strong for your tank and fish. Find it here - kaveman-aquatics.myshopify.com/products/wave-maker-3400-gph
Hey Kev…my poly (whatever) has not come in yet and I need to clean my filter can I use the green phosphate sponge to replace the white sponge that goes on top of the black sponges?
A phosphate sponge doesn’t do what the white sponge does. But it can go in it’s place if you’re having algae issues. Your tank will still be fine without it until your next cleaning. It just won’t be as clear as can be.
Hey kev! What temperature should I set my water heater too? I think having it too low , makes my tank cycle a little longer
That depends on your type of fish and what they prefer. But Yes, a warmer temp will grow bacteria faster.
@KaveMan Aquatics I have 5 tetras 5 cory catfish 5 danio and two bettas male and female
Those are all good 75-80
Please help me I need to find out what size suction cup I need for my FX 6 hose intake and outtake . Thank you
Go to fluvals website. they sell the accessories there 😊

how would you set up 2 fx6's in a 125 gallon with no 3d background?
Like this 😊 - ruclips.net/video/GowcPzNxCDo/видео.html
Hey, Kev! If I use aragonite sand in my tank, will water changes cause a harmful swing in the PH? My tap water is currently reading at a 7.8. Setting up the same 150 that you have with 100lbs of Arag-Alive. Thank you in advance!
No it wont. The remaining water left in your tank during water changes will be heavily buffered. As you fill with new water that buffer will get to work keeping the PH stable. You'll be fine with aragonite sand! 😊💪
@@KaveManAquatics thanks man! Tank was delivered today. Here we go!
I saw it
What brand of tanks do you use? Do you have them shipped to your home? Thank you in advance.
Your recommendation for my 210 gallon with no 3d background. I have 2 fx6s (one on each side)and 2 wavemakers(one angled up, the other angled down on opposite side). Sand as my substrate.
You can have your filter intakes on opposite sides as long as the flow is greater to one side. Point the wavemakers in the same direction. Place the one pointed up at one end of the tank and the one pointing down in the middle of tank, but flowing in the same direction.
@kernalbert4939 let me clarify about the filters...left side fx6 has the intake with the discharge nozzles pointed to the right plus wavemaker angled up for surface agitation. The right side fx6 is on opposite side of tank with the discharge pointed towards the left. The other wavemaker is angled down towards sand going to the left. Both filters are 100% open. If I understand your correctly. I should idle down one of my fx6s to 75% while the other is wide open?
I have the perfect video for you on your exact setup. Your going to want to position both your discharges so they point in same direction. Watch this - ruclips.net/video/GowcPzNxCDo/видео.html
@@blackhornet25 No need to idle one side down, the wavemakers pointing to one direction will create the greater flow in that direction.
You want all the flow including surface agitation, going in the same direction. That makes all the detritus flow to that point, where it is being picked up by the second filter's intake.
The ABSOLUTE best way to filter your tank is lengthen the outtake on one filter so that both outtakes are on one side. So you have an intake on one corner and an intake on the other far corner and BOTH outtakes (filtered water returns) on ONE side flowing in the SAME direction across the long surface of the tank.
Then with the wavemakers, you set one up on the same side as the outtakes, pointed at the surface to create agitation. Take the second wavemaker and place that in the middle, pointing down so that oxygen rich water is being pushed over the sand.
The intake that's in the direction of the flow (the second filter, with the longer outtake) will pick up the majority of the waste and will need to be cleaned more frequently. This filter should be heavier with mechanical filtration.
The other intake (the first filter) will be drawing water across the bottom from the first half of the aquarium. That filter should be heavier with biological filtration.
Let me know if anything is unclear.
@kernalbert4939 thanks for explaining all that. I know that was a lot to type. I will have to order the tubes from fluval because I cut them to lengths on current setup.
I have purchased jack dimpsey fish 5 days back . He is active but not eating food please help me
Check your water Parameters. Make sure he isnt getting bullied. Look for signs of internal parasites. Sometimes, they just need more time to settle in.
A goldfish lover, Ranchu as some. BUT WATCH YOUR VIDEO AS BELIEVE ITS ALOT ON YOURS AS MINE. JUST SHARING WITH YOU LOVE YOURS VIDE OS...
Hablo Español y Mas.. Comparto me Encanta tus videos , creo es hacer major a nuestro aquarium si es o no es mismo specimen fish. Hahaha let's just join. Yes I will have a fish with chickens too.jiderse con este Hobbie:))))
What black sand substrate do you use?
Black diamond blasting sand
@@KaveManAquatics OK...thanks...do you find that you have to do extensive washing? Since the fish dig around in it I guess one must REALLY wash it or else the water will continuously get murky. How do you handle this? I love black substrate, but I am so weary of everything I have read on line. I would appreciate your take and experience on it. Thanks...Regards Teri
But don’t the fish get behind the background?
Only the clown loaches find there way back there, but they love it. They come in and out from back there all the time. If they can find their way back there, they'll find their way out 😁
Discus hates wave makers :( so i have to constantly vacuum the gravel
That's true they do, But if you set up your intake and outputs like this you may have to vacuum less 😊 (If you dont have too much decor in the tank)
@@KaveManAquatics i have an overflow 😫 haha! Im gonna start turning on the wave maker and leave ot for an hr, daily. & see if that helps. Love all your videos!

@@KaveManAquatics nice thanks. Got to save up. 👍
@KaveManAquatics I have a Question since I have your time. Do you think a fx4 is good enough to run a 125 gallon tank. Or should I add another medium strength pump like a 407 or something maybe a Lil lower can't remember what other canister filter I have. Just would like to know your your been in the game heavy opinion.
