North, east and downtown Edmonton have always been bad, now its the west and south deteriorating.
All these 15 minutes city ideas need to go as well as the "safe injection" sites.
I dont even recognize Strathcona anymore. Businesses are gone, buildings are trashed, and dont get me atarted on the landscaping in this city.

As a canadian you have a right to carry a knife on your hip in a shealth openly (dont bring to a school ffs lol). You also have a right to openly carry a sword however you want, so long as the sword is at least 20cm in length. Id advise learning how to use one well before doing so, as if your too weak or not skilled enough it will most liekly be taken from you and used against you. Standing your ground with a knife isnt exactly legal here.. but theres a few ways you can understand the laws and how theyre written to benefit you to be able to defend yourself with a knive. The 1 thing thats critical in the law is u must try to escape first. This CAN be neglected if escape is considered impossible or improbable at the time.

@@MarshalltheWarlock depends how you use it, and honestly where you are, having a good judge can make a big difference should you get charged. Ive had to use one in self defense and wasnt charged, but i was cornered and unable to escape. The self defense laws here are fickle to say the least and if you dont understand them then you shouldnt carry a knife. I can also tell you that pepper/bear spray does nothing, as ive been sprayed with bear spray and it didnt do much until after the fact, adrenaline can (and has been proven to) negate its effects, i wouldnt rely on it whatsoever. If you use a blunt object your odds of killing someone are actually pretty high... and youll still catch that aggrevated assault charge with both of those weapons btw, by definition anything in your hand used to harm another person can be considered a weapon. You obvoiusly didnt try to escape OR you had no reason to use a knife when you did; or you wouldnt have gotten the charge, refer to what i said above; you MUST try to escape first, or be in a situation where you cannot; failing to attempt to do so is the reason many people are charged. Your life must be at risk in order to act. You cannot pull a knife and chase down a theif, or get in an arguement and pull one when it gets out of hand. You have to literally use it as a last resort only. You obviously didnt.

      @@MarshalltheWarlock
Heres a quote right from a lawyer, that references canadian law. Hope this clears the air and lets you understand that a knife on your hip is just as good (if not better because its a visual detterent) than some wrench or something 😉
The only knives that would be illegal for self defence are knives already classified as prohibited weapons. Even that’s a stretch because anyone using a prohibited weapon to defend themselves might face a weapons charge, but would be less likely to face any charges specifically related to having defended themselves. Self defence laws don’t say anything about weapons, and there is no law banning the carrying knives with sheaths, knives that take both hands to open, or any knife with a fixed blade.
There are exceptions. It is not legal to carry knives which open automatically. Section 84(1) of the criminal code defines those as a prohibited weapon, and describes them as:
"a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device attached to or in the handle of the knife"
There are two caveats to that:
There is a prohibition against carrying a knife if the individual is carrying it for a purpose dangerous to public peace or for the purpose of committing a criminal offense. These, of course would be hard to prove as a stand-alone charge, so being charged with one of these offences is usually the result of getting charged with something else, e.g. robbing a store while carrying a knife.
Self defense laws in Canada are tied to being under threat and responding proportionally. What you use to defend yourself with is entirely immaterial.
Because self defence laws in Canada are written around the reasonable belief of a threat of harm or death, and a proportional response, regardless of how you defend yourself. In other words, you can use anything you have access to to defend yourself. That includes knives, guns, potted plants…whatever you have available that works and is proportional to the threat. You can read the entire text of the law on self defence in Canada and you will not find a single mention of weapons, approved or prohibited.
      Bill C-26 (S.C. 2012 c. 9) Reforms to Self-Defence and Defence Guide.
So basically your arguement is null and void. Thanks for trying.

This is what I show Edmonton lovers when they say Vancouver's situation is worse. At least when I'm in Vancouver, I can always walk or bike around their entire beautiful bustling, vibrant downtown and take their cheap and extensive public transit with a billion other people without having to worry about anything. Meanwhile in sprawled out edmonton, everyone drives and our urban core has drastically deteriorated keeping everybody separated and afraid. I've been to downtown, Whyte ave on weekends and they're both dead drug/homeless war zones. everybody here sadly would rather hang out at a sports bar in the suburbs.
