He truly one of the best! He was a great one and will missed. 3000+ strikeouts 300 wins ERA under 3.00 Only other pitcher to do it, Walter Johnson who pitched in during World War One
Seaver was 1 of 5 pitchers to win Rookie of the Year, Cy Young AND the World Series. The other 4 are Don Newcombe, Fernando Valenzuela, Dwight Gooden and Justin Verlander.
@@LatinSith and he almost snatched the 1969 MVP but came in second to Willie McCovey. You mentioned Don Newcombe, who did win an MVP and remains the only player to win the MVP, the Cy Young, and Rookie of the Year.
All my heros. Beatles, the 60's astronauts, some great guitar pickers, Arnie, recently my father, now Tom Terrific. They all made me who I am. I have to go on, but I feel so empty. God he was great!
Tom Seaver my first hero as a kid. It crushed me when he left the Mets. I couldn't understand it how that could be. Regardless I will never forget what 41 meant to the team and all it's fans. A very painful loss once again. RIP and thank you for all the memories.
Was not a Mets fan, or even a Reds fan, am a Dodgers fan, but i started collecting baseball cards as a little Kid in 1976, he was one of the players where I tried collecting all of his Cards. Nolan Ryan was great, but to me the argument was Seaver or Carlton as the best pitcher of that ERA, I sided with Seaver. Tremendous pitcher and total class act, RIP
This Yankees fan remembers. I watched on tv Seaver getting his 300th win on Phil Rizzuto Day at Yankee Stadium on August 4, 1985. Rod Carew got his 3,000th that same day in California. Coincidentally, Seaver was the 1967 N.L. Rookie of the Year while Carew won the 1967 A.L. Rookie of the Year. In the early 1990s, who got to work with Rizzuto on WPIX-11 for Yankees games? Tom Seaver! R.I.P. Met legend.
At the 1967 All-Star Game, Tom went up to Hank Aaron and introduced himself. Hank simply said “Kid, I know who you are, and before your career is over, I guarantee you everyone in this stadium will, too.” Truer words were never spoken. RIP Tom.
My heart is aching. Thank you Tom Terrific for all the wonderful memories especially the 1969 World Series that I attended as a 16 year old kid. I still have the ticket stubs.I remember taking the Flushing Local # 7 train from 82nd St. to Willets Point/Shea Stadium many times that year to watch you or Jerry Koosman, Gary Gentry, Jim McAndrew, & Nolan Ryan pitch. Enjoy your time in Heaven "shooting the breeze" with the Babe, the Mick, Say Hey Kid Willie, the "Iron Horse" Gherig, the Greatest Hitter - Ted Williams, Joe D'... RIP my Idol. Condolences to Nancy & the girls & Met Nation.
I was blessed to see him play with the Reds when I was young. At the time I didn't realize I was witnessing history but I knew it was special by the way my Dad talked about him. The memories of Riverfront stadium are some of the best I have and I miss those days spent with my family there watching the Reds and all of the teams that came through. Baseball was awesome back then and somehow it was more tangible, like I was a part of it.
The GOAT I'm glad that I was living in Queens in the '60s & ' 70's and got to see him pitch at Shea many times R.I.P . Tom Seaver and thanks for the memories
Goodbye Tom Terrific. A true bright spot us Met fans can point to even against all of those Yankee greats. I loved him and Rizzuto on the channel 11 broadcasts. The greatest Met.
R.I.P Mr.Seaver, just think you could have been a Phillie, but I enjoyed watching you Pitch while growing up in my Youth, Well Deserved HALL OF FAMER. 🙏 for your Family.
Being a Met fan and knowing you would see greatness every fourth day was a joy to behold. George Thomas Seaver, “Tom terrific” The franchise” greatest Met player of all time.
I remember when I was around ten years old I wrote a letter to Tom Seaver asking for a picture of him with his autograph....sure enough a week or two later I got this letter with the Mets letterhead. Inside was what I asked for. I was so tickled. I still have that pic.
1:03 Great pic. An intense, young Tom Terrific, with Gil Hodges in the background over his shoulder, almost like a guardian angel. What an influence he had over Tom, the perfect combo of a strong, gentle mentor and raw, brilliant talent.
The best pitcher of all time and my favorite Met of all time. I got to see him pitch once at Shea and he won the game. RIP Tom and thanks for all the great memories.
The greatest expansion era (after 1961) pitcher. Went 16-13 as a rookie with the Mets when they were the worst team in the NL. His ERA was under 3.00 in each of his 1st 7 seasons in MLB (only other to match that was G.C. Alexander). Won 20 5X, led NL in ERA 3X and SO 5X. His 2.86 career ERA is the lowest of any 300 game winner who pitched entirely in the live ball era (after 1920). His career total of 61 SHOs is topped by only Spahn (63) among live ball era pitchers. I have him at 7th greatest pitcher since 1900.
In Seaver's first 13 seasons, he had an ERA under 3.00 in 11 of them. His highest ERA in his first 13 seasons was 3.20...But when you compare Seaver to all the great pitchers of his time: Gibson, Marichal, Carlton, Jenkins, Palmer, Sutton, Hunter, he had the worst run support of any of them!....Someone told me once that Seaver holds the record for the best winning percentage above the teams he played for than any one in history!
The Mets as a franchise always do things wrong. They waited 10 years after Citi Field was built to announce a statue, when it should have been done on day 1. No matter what this franchise does, the optics are never good. God Bless the Franchise.
Compared to the long-haired tattooed freaks pitching today Tom Seaver was truly Chairman of the Board even more so than Whitey Ford was in his day. RIP for sure Tom Terrific.
My heart is aching today. My idol might be gone but the memories, having seen him pitch countless times, will love in my heart forever.
He truly one of the best! He was a great one and will missed.
3000+ strikeouts
300 wins
ERA under 3.00
Only other pitcher to do it, Walter Johnson who pitched in during World War One
Won 20 plus games 4X for a no hitting Mets team between 1967-1977. Won 19 in 1973. Had he pitched for a hitting team at least 50 more career wins.
AND.............53 games over .500
Seaver was 1 of 5 pitchers to win Rookie of the Year, Cy Young AND the World Series.
The other 4 are Don Newcombe, Fernando Valenzuela, Dwight Gooden and Justin Verlander.

He, second only to Bobby Orr, was my athletic hero as a kid in the early '70's; wish he ( and Willie Mays ) had won the '73 World Series..
derekec Feel like you lived my life, well said.
Tom Seaver my first hero as a kid. It crushed me when he left the Mets. I couldn't understand it how that could be. Regardless I will never forget what 41 meant to the team and all it's fans. A very painful loss once again. RIP and thank you for all the memories.

Hank Aaron said that Seaver was the toughest pitcher he ever faced. That says it all.
Born and raised in St Louis I remember Tom Seaver in the early seventies what heck of a picture rest in peace I did not know he passed away
A great athlete in baseball and humble gentlemen in retirement. A combination that is rare. RIP Tom Seaver

A heavy ball master. Tom Seaver was the best pitcher I ever saw up close... The best. I'm very very sad today..
My baseball idol....what a tragic loss :-(
Sad that his walk with us has ended. So long, Tom Seaver, we hardly knew ye.
We definitely lost a great, one of the greatest ever. I know I will remember this day for the rest of my life.

RIP # 41 Tom Terrific
So many legends passed this week rip to "the met" tom server
As a Chicago White Sox enthusiast I remember him winning his 300th win in that outstanding jersey.
My boyhood idol. 1969. The BEST! RIP - thank you for the incredible memories!
Johnny Bench Was very happy to be his catcher
I heard Bench didn't catch a lot for him. By the time Tom came to the Reds, Bench was more so a part time catcher
So were Jerry Grote and Pudge Fisk.
My biggest hero growing up, such a great pitcher, and such a great man.
I saw Seaver pitch a few times during his prime. He was the heart and soul of the '69 Miracle Mets, whom I remember well. Rest in peace, #41.
