  • G3000 ACCURACY TESTED (Video 2). We fly the TBM930 into Dulles International Airport to test the precision and performance of the G3000 autopilot to execute an LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance) approach to RWY 01C (KIAD).
    The Aircraft and Avionics Update 1 (AAU1) introduced on January 31, 2023 brings Microsoft Flight Simulator to an unprecedented level. With the AAU1 update, the G3000 is now the most advanced G3000 in the personal flight simulator. We put it to the test to determine the accuracy from start to finish following an RNAV (LPV) approach!

    I thought when you reach decision height on an LPV approach that you're supposed to land visually, meaning the the autopilot has to be disengaged (as well as yaw damper for that matter)?

    • @TheFlightLevel
      @TheFlightLevel  Год назад +6

      Hi and thanks for asking. I was hoping someone would mention this. You are correct! You would definitely disengage the AP (plus YD off) just before or at the DA and have the aircraft set up for a "Go Missed". I was really testing the aircraft behaviour or flight dynamics all the way down to touchdown. Many aircraft in Flight Simulator are unrealistic in their behaviour as they get close to the runway landing. I was initially going to show the video with disengaging the AP as you mention and I had practiced the landing with the AP disconnected at decision altitude. The feel and behaviour of the TBM930 is so realistic I said "this airplane will continue down to the runway smoothly with the AP still engaged". The AAU1 update is truly impressive in consideration of default aircraft. Some default aircraft are now in a league of their own! Blue skies!

    Superb Video. Well done and helpful information overlays. Usually, I hate musical background for these types of videos because I am watching to learn specific procedures and flight details and I find it distracting and annoying. But, your use of the beautiful, yet very subdued music does not distract at all - it actually increases mental focus. Very well done.

    • @TheFlightLevel
      @TheFlightLevel  Год назад +1

      Hi Robert. The glide path tape was armed automatically when the airplane reached BARIN (the initial approach fix). As soon as the new leg was activated from BARIN to ERACE the glide path tape became visible. I did not hit or activate any switch. The APR was then turned on after I saw the glide path armed. Cheers!

    At 12:40, The 200' is not the decision altitude. The clue is in the name: the word "altitude" refers to the altitude with reference to mean sea level. Ergo, the decision altitude is 486'.
    So if 486' is the decision altitude, the 200' is... what? It's HAT: height above touchdown. This is the height above the highest point in the touchdown zone (first 3000' of the runway). Unfortunately, the way you are relying on it is also incorrect.
    You are using the radar altimeter value. But the ground is not necessarily level and vertically aligned with either the threshold, or the highest point in the touchdown zone. If there is an upward slope in the preceding terrain before the runway, by the time your radar altimeter reads 200', you could have flown past and descended well below the actual decision point.

    • @TheFlightLevel
      @TheFlightLevel  Год назад

      Thanks for watching! Good catch on the specific details. Fully understood. Just a little hasty on the labeling editing! Yes, I should have called that decision height above the TDZE!

    Didn't work, sorry, did everything as per video. It didn't arm GP automatically, I even put minimum altitude in, armed VNAV, APP wouldn't even arm manually, no descent, no landing, zilch.
